SOLO: A Chunkymonkey Story - June 2018! NEW 8/23 Last SOLO Moments THE END - Final VLOG posted!

Finally getting into the report but glad I didn't fall too far behind!!!

So it begins! My first ever solo trip which I booked very last minute! I don't know if any of you who have done solo trips had to sort of justify it to your family/friends etc. about why you're going to Disney ALONE, but I told my family I was meeting some friends down there (which is not entirely untrue) because they all thought it was incredulous I'd go someplace ALONE
People just don't understand. Plus even if you didn't have any meets planned, you were going to see your friend Mickey so it's not untrue! Haha

I was able to get the last aisle seat in the whole plane both ways which was a relief!
Thank goodness. Middle seats are the stuff of my awkward nightmares.

To balance the healthy I also got the Beef Fat Fries
:thumbsup2 It's all about balance! So yummy looking. That secret restaurant is really cool! Too bad it's so pricy, but I guess I can easily justify the Delta skyclub access we've gotten used to enjoying and you probably had a nicer snack for not much more money.

Our flight was supposed to depart at 8:00pm but a screw up in the video system meant they couldn't show the safety video and they could not depart without showing it, so we ended up being delayed 30 minutes
Isn't that why the flight attendants are supposed to be trained on the manual instructions with the sample mask and seatbelt? My mom was a flight attendant when I was younger and she had to learn all of that in case there wasn't a video system on board or in case of technical issues like you experienced... weird.

I thought the room was great and very smartly designed. I loved the pull down murphy bed as you can keep the room spacious if you're not going to use it.
That's why we love the DVC studios as a party of 2! So nice to have the "extra" space.

A few weeks ago I dyed my hair a light brown ombre. I decided I did not like the look on me. I see it on other people and it looks so cool but I think on me I just prefer darker hair. I've since dyed my hair back to dark brown once I got home, but on this trip, my hair is super light, at least for me it is. It's weird to see
Well you look lovely at any rate, and I love your sunnies!!!

My new backpack is from State Bags. It's a Princess Leia themed bag with images of her iconic hairstyles. I love the print, but the pale pink color got dirty so easily! It was my first time using it and I had to launder it immediately when I got back. Maybe not the greatest park bag but it's so cute!
I WANT!!! :lovestruc

I thought that a nap in the muppets theater would be better than the live singing of Ariel so muppets it was.
:rotfl:I could never sleep through muppets (I love me some Fozzie Bear, waka waka!) but I totally get the sentiment! I've never been to the mermaid singing show but I can see how that might distract you from your nap...

I am not a fan of Kylo as he's a whiny brat
 Agreed. No desire to meet him!

I'm on page 12!!! But I think the Dis ate some of my quotes :rolleyes2

Thanks Mama Melrose for a great meal! It was my first time there but it won't be my last. In fact I have it booked for Sept so that Steve and my sister Chunkysis could try it out too.
This looked like a great meal. I've read lots of yummy looking reviews lately! We may need to try it soon. That bread and seasoned oil is calling my name!

Ah now you can see my shirt. I have smoke coming out of my head too. I declare this the best magic shot of all, LOL.
Su-Lynn is hot hot hot! :smokin:

HELLOOO Patrick!
I love him! "These little beauties" is my favorite part!

I always seem to be riding Soarin' next to a bunch of newbies. It's always fun to hear their reactions
Agreed, especially if they're little guys!

It started melting very quickly in the heat so I sat inside Les Halles (well, I stood at a counter table since there were no seats) and tried to finish it, but it was very very rich. I'm usually a simple one scoop of ice cream sort of gal and these giant double scoops plus the alcohol were too much to finish. I drank most of the alcohol and ate most of the chocolate ice cream which was delicious but could not finish the whole thing. It was practically all melted white chocolate coconut ice cream by the time I threw it out anyways
What?! You threw away booze?! :confused3

I guess I need to try this myself to see if it can be done on one's own... haha

but when I looked up from my phone we were pulling into the far west side of Disney Springs like where La Nouba used to be...oh well, I can just walk over to Saratoga Springs, right

OH NO! I feel that this is not going to end well... you were closer to OKW...

When we stayed at SSR we didn't even attempt the walking trail. We almost got lost just trying to find the path to the boat to DS-and then lightening was within 100 miles or whatever so we couldn't use boat anyway. We stayed Grandstand - bonus is bus was right outside our building and the pool was very close.

And thanks to your review may try Mama Melrose in August. Really want to see Fantasmic! - don't think I've seen it since 2015:scared1:

Just getting all caught up around here. :)

I love how you took getting "lost" in stride and can laugh at yourself now. LOL! I'd have been irked at first too, I guess. UGH!

But, you redeemed it well and took some nice advantage of the shops and Mmmm! that soup! Super awesome they subbed in an egg for you. The VLOG was well done- Kudos! I seriously don't think I'd be able to do that.

June 10th Part 1: Homecomin' - Brunch!

Good Morning!

After a long night finding my way to my room in the dark, it was so nice to wake up with a brand new day at Disney!
One where I hopefully wouldn't get lost!

This was the the view from my room. It faced the front of building 2 towards the bus stop but it was far enough that I never heard anything.

Before I left on this trip, Homecomin' Kitchen by "Chez Fartsmith" (I've found out many people refer to it as that and I clapped and laughed like a toddler when I heard it!) just released a new Sunday brunch menu and since I was literally staying right next door to the Springs, it seemed only fated that I should snag a reservation for 10:30 am. This allowed me to sleep in for once! I had moved all my FP to later in the day at Epcot so that worked out. I can't really "sleep in" when I'm at Disney per se, but I just hung out in the room, peered out the window, watched some Disney blue screen, took my time to get ready, and headed out.

This time, however, I knew my way to Disney springs! I retraced my steps from last night and headed past the pool to the back of the building onto the pathway, what I didn't expect was to be greeted by this amazing view! I guess I never saw Disney Springs from this side of the river before, it's really pretty!

Get ready for a trick shot in my upcoming vlog! LOL I guess I was in a good mood because I finally got some sleep.

Here is the bridge into the Disney Springs Marketplace area which I could barely see last night:

It makes a real difference in mood when you know where you're going!

The walk to homecoming took about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace. There was no need to rush and I even got there about 10 mins early. I checked in and waited about 5 minutes even though there really wasn't anyone there yet. For some reason I was seated outside in the covered porch area. I would have probably preferred to sit inside as I like air conditioning but luckily it wasn't at the hottest part of day yet and it was pleasant and private so I decided not be a PITA and didn't ask to be moved.

Here's the new brunch menu. The menu was so new it wasn't even up online so I couldn't even peruse it ahead of time like I normally do with Disney restaurants! I also think I got the same server that I got the other time I was here last year for dinner with Steve in May. She was a very cute and attractive blonde who was super attentive in the beginning and then waned off as our dinner got underway. This time though I literally was her only customer for most of my meal so there was no one else to keep her busy!

I decided to start off with a cocktail, because it was 5'oclock somewhere and I was on vacation. I ordered the Florida Crush.

It has Tito's vodka, muddle orange and strawberries, a splash of fresh OJ and agave syrup. It was delicious! I love cocktails with fresh fruit and juice and this tasted like the best OJ you've ever had, LOL. I would definitely get this again for brunch.

Apparently I have more pictures of me drinking from straws on this trip than any other trip:

For an entree, I decided to focus on the brunch-only items, as some of the other items I have had at dinner, like the fried chicken and doughnuts, and shrimp and grits. I got the Fried Green, Eggs, and Ham. The "Green" was fried green tomatoes which is layered with fried eggs, griddled and shaved ham, and topped with a remoulade sauce served open faced on a cheddar drop biscuit. This was served with your choice of side and I got the yummy grits.

This was quite good, and was just on the verge of being too much food without it being too much food...get it? Haha, it was definitely very filling. I think next time I would ask for the eggs over medium as I do like a little bit of runny yolk on a dish like this and this one was fried well done.

Here's another picture so you can see the different layers on top of the biscuit:

I used my AP discount and got 10% off the meal. I kinda forgot to get the TIW card which would have saved 20% including the alcohol so I think on our next trip in Sept we will definitely get one. I didn't have any other table service meals scheduled so there wasn't any point in getting one at that point.

After lunch I just walked around Disney Springs. I went into a few stores, I didn't go back into the Disney Style Store, but I saw this store called The Disney Corner that has all the cute outfits for kids so I bought my niece Sienna a few t-shirts because her mom (my sister Chunkytwin2) called and said she refused to wear any t-shirts except specific ones with Minnie on them so could I be so nice to purchase her some? Not a problem, coolest aunt to the rescue! :cutie:

Some new Dooneys: They seem to be coming out with a new print very regularly. This one is Lady and the Tramp.

Speaking of Dooneys, I really love the new Winnie the Pooh print! I know @ArielSRL got a bag! :thumbsup2

I walked into several other stores, mostly just browsing. Now that I had all this time to shop, I didn't really want to buy anything. :rotfl: Nothing caught my eye, but I did try on a dress at The Dress Shop at Cherry Tree Lane.

Here was my outfit for this morning: Just a tank and a skort

And this was the dress I tried on: The green Tiki room dress.

No...just...no...

Haha as if you didn't already know from my expression above, I did not come back home with that dress. It is not really my style, and it also didn't fit well, but I love the print! It was the smallest size on the rack and it was my regular size, so I thought, cool. I heard they run big but I didn't expect it to be that roomy. Usually when people say things run big I'm like, well that is only a good thing and I buy my regular size, but with these sort of dresses you really need them to be fitted and cinched at the waist otherwise it looks like a lampshade and make you look bigger. I did find out that they are stretchy too which is nice as they look so rigid in pictures. I have since recently procured another dress shop dress which I like a lot better! I got it from ebay since it is no longer in the stores.
Maybe I will wear it in May for our Epic Girls Flower and Garden Trip. :scratchin

I still was on a mission to find my sister her rose-gold earrings. I waked into World of Disney but it was a madhouse. It was so packed because now there is just half the space until they finish remodeling so I didn't want to deal with that. Instead I went to the peaceful sparkle that is Arribas Bros. and lo and behold, I found the rose gold earrings!!

They look like this but rose-gold. It was the exact ones she wanted as she has this silver pair already.

So now that was done I treated myself with some Starbucks, a matcha latte which is my favorite. If you've never tried starbucks matcha latte, they make their matcha lattes with matcha powder which is already sweetened so the drink tastes like a melted green tea ice cream. (Matcha powder is just ground up matcha tea leaves so there is no natural sweetener - some places make it without sugar and you sweeten it on your own like a regular coffee drink.)

Had some fun in a photobooth. I found it in the Pin Traders store. It was the same photobooth as the one in figment that wouldn't let me keep the frame on the Memory Maker so I had to just settle for a picture of a picture.

It was almost time to head to Epcot as I had all my FP+ there today. Instead of trying to get an Uber, it was closer for me to walk back to my room and take the bus from there. I also got to drop off my purchases in my room and pick up my popcorn bucket.

I recorded some video as I was walking back about my brunch in Homecoming. Then when I got back to my room I saw they had already hung the ME envelope there. Boo. I dropped my purchases off and changed my shirt and headed out towards the bus stop. My first time taking the bus at Saratoga Springs! I don't remember how long I waited but it was probably the regular 15 minutes since if it was earlier or later I probably would have remembered!

These are some of the buildings at Congress Park. I had no idea what color they were the night before! LOL.

Coming up...braving the heat in Epcot...and a Happily Ever After dessert party!

PS if you haven't checked out our new EPIC Girls Trip PTR yet, we have fun a fun little poll going on there. Check it out HERE!.

This was the the view from my room.
:cloud9: looks heavenly! I am missing Disney so much today!

Before I left on this trip, Homecomin' Kitchen by "Chez Fartsmith" (I've found out many people refer to it as that and I clapped and laughed like a toddler when I heard it!)
:blush::blush: Welcome to the club! Here, we're all 12 year old boys and fart jokes are hysterical!

what I didn't expect was to be greeted by this amazing view! I guess I never saw Disney Springs from this side of the river before, it's really pretty!
Oh my gorgeous!!!

My view through the covered screen porch:
Another lovely view. It may have been warmer than you'd like but you can't beat that view!!!

I decided to start off with a cocktail, because it was 5'oclock somewhere and I was on vacation. I ordered the Florida Crush.
:thumbsup2 my kinda brunch. BOOZY! (Not booty, @Elevationist)

I got the Fried Green, Eggs, and Ham.
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN EYEBALLING! You're living my dream.

t was indeed as scrumptious as it looked. My only complaint is that it was in need of a little sauce, I didn't care for the remoulade that much and there was little of it anyways, hence the idea for some runnier yolks.
:hyper: so glad to hear that. I read one kinda bad review of Homecoming brunch so I am glad to see that you enjoyed yours. I wonder if they would bring you some of the gravy from the mashed potatoes if you asked nicely? That gravy is probably 50% of the reason I eat there if I am being honest... haha

No...just...no...

Haha as if you didn't already know from my expression above, I did not come back home with that dress.
OMG! I hate that style of dress where there's just a little teeny bust area and then a big wide waistband, it's not flattering on me at all :sad2: I have not tried on any of the dress shop dresses but I did see they have a few different styles, but the prints I like are all ones cut in styles that I don't think would flatter me. Still holding out hope though!

Maybe I will wear it in May for our Epic Girls Flower and Garden Trip. :scratchin

Which one did you get? And yes you should! I am forever in a dress at Disney World!!!

Great photos of you!

Lovely view from your room! Balconies are so awesome for morning coffee.

Your brunch looked delicious. Did the grits have cheese in them? My husband loves remoulade sauce, as there is a bottle in our fridge right now. I think I would have asked for the sauce on the side.

Your outfit for the day is super cute! That dress didn't look bad on you, but I understand styles and cuts can make a difference. I believe that is the dress Katrina from Dis Unplugged wore on a recent video.

I love solo shopping. I get more done and just look at what I want. That was nice of you to find your niece some shirts and sister's earrings.

The view from your balcony was so pretty, and it looks like the walk to Disney Springs was, too.

How was the bed at SSR? Hoping it's comfy! DD and I will be sharing it since we've heard the pull out sofa bed is the worst ever.

Glad to hear the bus wait must not have been terrible.

Your brunch looked yummy. Wish I had one of those drinks right now! Sounds refreshing. And again, you had a nice view!

Love the dress pattern and color. Hope to see a pic of the one you bought from ebay show up in one of your reports one day!

You're such a sweet aunt and sis.

Looking forward to reading about your epcot day and HEA party!

I love the shop where you got your sisters earrings...I may have declined to do the Void with family last trip just so I cold have some solo shopping time in there:rolleyes1...I love the rings.

Pretty walk and yummo! to the brunch.

How was the bed at SSR? Hoping it's comfy! DD and I will be sharing it since we've heard the pull out sofa bed is the worst ever.
It was my least favorite resort bed of all we've stayed at - including all star sports. And yeah-the sofa bed is just awful!! By comparison the pull out sofa bed at the Cabins is very nice and very comfortable! The balcony is the best part of SSR rooms IMO.

Aw, bummer! I am so not a happy person when I don't sleep well. Thank you very much for the warning.

People just don't understand. Plus even if you didn't have any meets planned, you were going to see your friend Mickey so it's not untrue! Haha

Right? That's what I think! People are so strange.

Thank goodness. Middle seats are the stuff of my awkward nightmares.

Mine too! I'd be regretting not getting the aisle if I ended up in the middle with two crappy neighbors.

:thumbsup2 It's all about balance! So yummy looking. That secret restaurant is really cool! Too bad it's so pricy, but I guess I can easily justify the Delta skyclub access we've gotten used to enjoying and you probably had a nicer snack for not much more money.

Yes true, I do like the airport lounges as the terminals at Newark can get so crowded now! Definitely a welcome respite.

Isn't that why the flight attendants are supposed to be trained on the manual instructions with the sample mask and seatbelt? My mom was a flight attendant when I was younger and she had to learn all of that in case there wasn't a video system on board or in case of technical issues like you experienced... weird.

I know, right? I was waiting for them to break out the oxygen masks the old fashioned way and the life jacket. But no, they just sat around waiting for "technical support"

That's why we love the DVC studios as a party of 2! So nice to have the "extra" space.

It is so nice! It's great being a DVC member, LOL although our first stay is not until January 2019, but we've stayed at the studios a few times now and really like the space.

Well you look lovely at any rate, and I love your sunnies!!!

Aww thank you. I felt my hair looked so frizzy and fried and the bleached streaks in it wasn't helping.
Thanks!! They are from Karen Walker. Kastoney also mentioned she like them in a previous TR. I know Nordstrom Rack had them on a flash sale the other week so they end up super cheap (less than 80 bucks which is a steal) so I would definitely stake out the sales.

I WANT!!! :lovestruc

It's such a cute bag. Not sure when I'd use it again though as it gets dirty so easily!

:rotfl:I could never sleep through muppets (I love me some Fozzie Bear, waka waka!) but I totally get the sentiment! I've never been to the mermaid singing show but I can see how that might distract you from your nap...

Haha I just close my eyes and enjoy the sounds. Not a better place to close your eyes for a bit! Mermaid show has a little too much background noise and the show is rather short.

 Agreed. No desire to meet him!

He's so annoying! I need a real villain.

I'm on page 12!!! But I think the Dis ate some of my quotes :rolleyes2

Oh no! Boo...

This looked like a great meal. I've read lots of yummy looking reviews lately! We may need to try it soon. That bread and seasoned oil is calling my name!

I was really delightfully surprised. It was yummy and hit the spot. Plus, it wasn't super crowded at that time and I wasn't sitting on top of other tables.

Su-Lynn is hot hot hot! :smokin:

The PP photographer must have had a ball taking these. I had no idea that there were smoke effects behind me!

I love him! "These little beauties" is my favorite part!

Me too! Classic.

Agreed, especially if they're little guys!

I love their awed reactions!

What?! You threw away booze?! :confused3

I guess I need to try this myself to see if it can be done on one's own... haha

Haha no! For the record, I drank all the booze and ate all the chocolate ice cream, but what was left was mostly melted coconut white chocolate which wasn't as good.

OH NO! I feel that this is not going to end well... you were closer to OKW...

I must have been, LOL. I have not stayed there either so I would have been lost either way.

Yeah the buses are convenient to all the different sections but then if you are the last stop the buses will be crowded by the time it gets to you or you have to sit in the bus and wait until it completes all 4 stops if you're the first stop. Either way, I think it's a very pretty resort but a little too sprawling for me. I prefer the one bus stop kinda thing. :)
And thanks to your review may try Mama Melrose in August. Really want to see Fantasmic! - don't think I've seen it since 2015:scared1:

That is a good idea! Mama Melrose Fantasmic packages always go first!
I like Fantasmic, I don't think it is a must do but whenever I see the show I always feel pangs of nostalgia, and I absolutely love the part when the princesses come out, and of course, the end on the riverboat!

I love how you took getting "lost" in stride and can laugh at yourself now. LOL! I'd have been irked at first too, I guess. UGH!

Yeah, the combination of being tired, stomach pangs...etc. It just made me want to hurry up to get to my destination...of course that never worked out but it was ok in the end thank goodness.

But, you redeemed it well and took some nice advantage of the shops and Mmmm! that soup! Super awesome they subbed in an egg for you. The VLOG was well done- Kudos! I seriously don't think I'd be able to do that.

Thanks!! It was fun making it, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this for every trip but it's fun to do while solo!! It could be my "solo time" thing. :)
The ramen was delicious, surprisingly. I guess I was just in a..."give me something hot, I dont' care what it tastes like" mood, but when I first sipped it, I was delightfully surprised!

:cloud9: looks heavenly! I am missing Disney so much today!

Me too! And all our group talk about Disney is just whetting my appetite. 44 days until I'm in my happy place!

Oh my gorgeous!!!

Isn't it? So pretty during the day!

Another lovely view. It may have been warmer than you'd like but you can't beat that view!!!

It was quite pretty. I wonder why they stuck me outside by myself but I guess it's to disperse all the guests evenly among the servers.

:thumbsup2 my kinda brunch. BOOZY! (Not booty, @Elevationist)

I loved my drink!! It was so good!

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN EYEBALLING! You're living my dream.

LOL Glad to have partook for the both of us!

:hyper: so glad to hear that. I read one kinda bad review of Homecoming brunch so I am glad to see that you enjoyed yours. I wonder if they would bring you some of the gravy from the mashed potatoes if you asked nicely? That gravy is probably 50% of the reason I eat there if I am being honest... haha

Oh YUM Mashed potato gravy would have made this whole thing complete. That is a fantastic idea. I will have to ask next time!!

Yes!! I know, that whole gathered waist thing...it's not for me. I see on on other people and it is so cute and I try it and it looks horrendous.

Which one did you get? And yes you should! I am forever in a dress at Disney World!!!

I got the old version of the Small World dress...I found it on ebay. It's this version:

s-l640.jpg

It looks much better on me than the later versions, but the fabric has no stretch so not the best eat around the world dress.
I will wear it to one of the events, maybe brunch :) I'm not sure I can last all day in it. I need my park clothes to be super comfy.

Great photos of you!

Thank you!! puckerup:

Yasssss that cocktail sounds delicious! I know exactly what you're talking about with the tiki room dress. I had a friend buy it for me, and the large is just SO big on me. I also heard they ran big but those seriously are huge. The waist is also a whopping 4" which doesn't help. I keep planning on getting mine altered so it's more flattering on me!

I bought my niece Sienna a few t-shirts because her mom (my sister Chunkytwin2) called and said she refused to wear any t-shirts except specific ones with Minnie on them so could I be so nice to purchase her some? Not a problem, coolest aunt to the rescue! :cutie:
You're raising her right!

I was considering what to wear in May. Her Universe just debuted a new Disney collection. The Rapunzel dress looked cute, but then the plus size version doesn't look like a good fit (not cinched enough in the waist). They do have a cute retro-Captain America dress...but the problem is I don't wear dresses normally!

Love Homecomin" and so does everyone else in my family. I cannot wait to try brunch! Your meal looks so good!!!!!

Haven't seen the Lady and the Tramp Dooney...LOVE it!!!! I love the Winnie the Pooh bags too. I hope to buy a new one in October...

Read through off and on all day while doing other things! You know I love a solo trip!!

So jealous of that refurbed Pop room. Definitely NOT what mom and I had on our quick overnight in October before moving to the polynesian. I keep telling DH we could do it for a late night room b/c aside from the old room I liked Pop, but he hated Movies so much he can't get past it. I showed him your pictures and he said he wouldn't be so against it now if needed b/c it looks so much brighter.

Oh my gosh, I'd have been miserable trying to find my way to Saratoga Springs! I'm glad you ended up getting there ok, but what a crazy night!

Ooh, a HEA party?? Might it be the after fireworks one?? I have it booked for New Year's Day and I'm anxious to hear about it if it is!

That's a lovely view! It looks so peaceful

I guess I never saw Disney Springs from this side of the river before, it's really pretty!

It's so gorgeous from that side of the river

That's another great view! I don't know about a patio in the middle of summer though.

I think it looks really cute on you!!!

They look like this but rose-gold. It was the exact ones she wanted as she has this silver pair already.

Best sister ever!

I love you VLOG! You're a natural in front of the camera :-)

I would have been freaking out walking being lost, walking all that way at night by myself :scared1: I think it's so weird that CMs are allowed to say, "I don't know." If she had, you probably wouldn't have gotten so lost :confused3

You still look cute in the Tiki dress, but I like the other one better, too :P

My view through the covered screen porch:

That's one heck of a view! :cloud9:

The "Green" was fried green tomatoes
This would have been my choice too! I LOVE fried green tomatoes!

And this was the dress I tried on: The green Tiki room dress.

The print is awesome! Even if you didn't end up getting/loving the dress itself. ;)

Maybe I will wear it in May for our Epic Girls Flower and Garden Trip. :scratchin
YES YES YES!

I found the rose gold earrings!!
Nice! :thumbsup2
