So, explain these "security checks" to me, please?

I hadn't heard the "recent reports"...? Had some folks had bad encounters with security?

Oh gracious yes.

Haha, oh yes. Just go back a few pages, you can identify most of them by the "thread locked" symbol...

That’s exactly how I was going to explain how to find the posts. :)

They at least need to have a man-woman team if they are barging in like this.

YES.

Here is the stated policy in the terms and conditions and the one we all agreed to when booking our WDW rooms:

Please be advised that notwithstanding your use of a sign on your door, a request by you to forego housekeeping services or any other request made by you, the hotel and its staff reserve the right to enter your room for any purposes including, but not limited to, performing maintenance and repairs or checking on the safety and security of guests and property. The hotel staff will give reasonable notice prior to entry by knocking and announcing the intent to enter the room.

Actually, no. Not when I booked my rooms. :)

I really wish they would leave a card saying if they have been in the room for a routine security inspection.

YES again.

If a cm insisted on coming in a room with my underage daughter in there alone I would have a big issue with that regardless of their reasoning... just because it’s a WDW cm does not make it ok , given it’s just like any other place and they have had plenty of cm arrested for child porn issues over the years .
If I am at the food court or lobby I would expect them to wait and come back when a adult is in the room just like I would ANY hotel or resort . I definitely think this process is going to cause so many issues that it will not last very long .

YES again.

If you booked prior to that statement explicitly being laid out in the terms and conditions, you agreed to this (in the 2017 terms and conditions): "Terms and conditions are subject to change by Disney without notice". So, yes, we've all agreed, when booking a WDW room, to go along with whatever terms and conditions WDW decides to come up with at any time including those made after booking.

all hotels have these but do you actually expect a stranger to barge in at any moment ? If it was say a Hilton you would be outraged regardless.. just because it’s Disney does not make it less inconvenient or like I said before a bigger issue when a adult comes into a room with a minor child unannounced... it has always said that but in 30 yrs I have been going they have never done that and absolutely will have a issue if that were to happen .I can almost bet at some point there WILL be a legal issue happen even if it’s “ policy “ .
I do not know a single person who would not be outraged ( at Disney or not ) to have a male CM come into a room possibly with a female child either changing, in the bathroom or feeling like they HAVE to allow a stranger into the room .
I also think the more this is known the more chance of someone NOT a cm to attempt entry to a room with someone who may not be on forums like this and not know to ask for certain things , not everyone looks online or is on vacation planning boards like this one .

The CMs don't "barge in". They announce themselves first. And if you engage the latch there is no way for them to "barge in".

If someone plans on leaving their minor child in the room alone, make sure they flip the latch on. And to not let anyone in unless it is a known family member. It is not hard to avoid all the worry of a CM walking in on you or a child changing/alone/in the shower.

Is any notification of this policy given at check-in? Also, does anyone know how this is handled if a dog is in the room? Does the security guard know the room has a dog in it? I can't imagine everyone crates their dog while they are out, and assumes they can put the sign on the door to prevent anyone from coming in (unless they are forewarned at check-in). I know that my dog would be unsettled if someone came in, even in a crate, and it would take him a while to calm down. And I imagine it's a risk to the security staff as well.

I would not have a single problem with this policy if it did any good. It is all for show. It is useless and inconvenient. I don't have a problem being inconvenienced for a reason.

If someone had something they shouldn't have in the room, stashed in a closet or under a bed or wherever, a quick glance around will do exactly nothing.

The rooms that allow dogs have a hangtag to indicate the dog is in the room and so they won't enter.

Just to make you aware because some people don’t realize it but those latches are easily opened , just google them online .I think they are pretty much there to make you “ feel” more secure . I think there may be more of a issue when kids may not go near the door or answer because of not wanting to interact with a stranger then someone walking in after knocking which would absolutely still scare someone . I don’t think it will be a widespread issue but definitely see them ending up with a legal issue from someone at some point . It seems silly to annoy guests over something that probably is more useless then helpful.

Yes. But there are no reports of the CMs bypassing the latch. And if a child is that scared by someone knocking they probably shouldn't be left alone in the room. I've had random people knock on my door more than once.

Gotcha. Wasn't sure if they have tags to indicate a dog is present. So no security checks in rooms with dogs? This is akin to security calling first and agreeing to come later... what's the point? Its a workaround for the bad guys, who security is trying to flush out.

Lol ok OBVIOUSLY someone knocking on a door wouldn’t be scary but doing what they are taught and ignoring it then having someone walk in YEH of course that would scare even a adult

Agreed. Which is why using the latch is important. I'm surprised that more people don't seem to throw the latch as it is habit for me to do so. Yes, and intruder could bypass it. But hopefully you also have the other lock engaged.

Again .. the latch is not really very useful and while no one has reported it yet since they are INSISTENT on someone opening up right then I’m sure it will happen at some point ... therefore causing a potential issue for Disney ... that’s why I think given it’s uselessness I don’t think it will go on very long . I doubt this “ policy” will continue very long once more people start complaining .
My bigger question is are they simply looking or are they looking into your things ? I think just looking does nothing but causing annoyance and really is not going to prevent much of anything if someone is determined.

If you are using housekeeping and call them to service your room when you are leaving for the parks, will this prevent the unannounced security checks?

This right here sums it all up. No amount of complaining will change it. We all sign the agreement. Only solution is to stay somewhere else if you do not agree.

I tend to try to not worry about something that hasn't happened. And I only see them bypassing the latch if someone is trying to keep them from doing the room check at all, trying to keep them from the room for hours on end.

Reports are they just glance around. They don't open bags or anything.

Just curious. How do you know it has done nothing good?
