They may still go but I bet they scale back on something.
Have not read this whole thread, but....
We are staying at POP Century. We plan on having a non-park day to go to Disney Springs and visit some other resorts to see their Christmas decorations. Will they allow us to park for free at other resorts since we are staying/paying for parking at POP?
They are charging for parking to detour people from driving themselves. When you rent a car or drive to WDW you now have the ability to go wherever you want. You can go to Universal Studios, Seaworld, Legoland, etc. There is so many other non-disney things to do in Orlando. If you are spending your days going to non-disney parks, Disney obviously isn't getting your money. You didn't buy a park ticket for the day, you won't be buying food and beverages or souvenirs. If you have your own car you can even just go grab dinner or breakfast at a non-disney restaurant. You aren't stuck in the Disney bubble. When someone flies into Disney and takes Disney transportation they are less likely to be going elsewhere. Yes, there is uber and lyft but that can get pricey, roundtrip to Universal one day, roundtrip to Legoland the next.
Would you say more people rely on Disney transportation compared to having their own car?
How much is it to park overnight? Has there been like clear rates given?
I'm sure this was part of the thinking for the fees, just as was the case when Disney instituted DME. In the DME decision Disney calculated that their cost to offer this would be offset by having a more captive audience. Ultimately though I believe Disney concluded that they were, in business terms, 'Leaving money on the table' by not charging a parking fee. Other upper end hotels, think of S/D, have been doing it for years, calling it a Resort Fee.

Give Disney time. They'll eventually have both as well.S/D has both a parking fee and a resort fee.

Please clarify for me as I haven't been able to read all posts. If we rent a car and pay for parking for the length of stay at our resort, and have an ADR for Chef Mickey's, can we take the monorail to the park after the meal, or is the time still limited?
Yes you can. We did. In fact the people at our resort CBR let us know we can absolutely do it since we pay for parking at CBR. When went to yacht club for breakfast the guard asked my name and when reservation was, scanned my band and I parked all day and walked to Epcot. This was just 4 weeks ago.
Also when we just visited boardwalk I told parking attendant we are staying at CBR and just wanted to visit. He scanned my magic band, probably to verify and let me in. Again since we are parking paying guests it’s no issue. It’s for the non hotel scammers.

Parking at EPCOT and MK resorts and then going to a park is NOT ALLOWED; those lots are for guests staying at the resorts.
You were lucky it was allowed.

Most of the gate guards are retired folks and their info is no better than the bus drivers. You paid for parking at a moderate does not entitled you to park at a deluxe ( higher parking fee) and go to Epcot for the day. Somehow I think you knew that before hand.Yes you can. We did. Hotel parking fees and theme park parking fees are two distinct things.Just to state again. Numerous employees told me it was allowed. Since I paid at another resort. My car wasn’t one of the ones they were worried scamming. Obviously if I didn’t have a dining reservation I would drive directly to park. But as I was told since we have food reservation and paid for parking at my hotel I can leave car and go to parks. It was great. Highly recommend. Lol
