Provincial plans for loosening restrictions

It’s extremely concerning how this man was vilified in the court of public opinion before any chance to explain himself or tell his story. Questions weren’t asked , condemnations were made. I’m seeing a lot of ugly behaviour like this online, where someone will post that they heard there was a case of a Covid 19 at some local business and people freak out without facts. It’s a stark reminder of what fear can do.

As a NB resident who has family just a few hours way in NS - this makes me incredibly happy. It’s been a long 5 months since we last saw my in laws. My DD6 told me the other day “once we can go see grandma and grandpa, you need to fill the car with the most expensivest gas so it goes faster!” :car:

This also means we may get to make our annual camping trip to PEI. Crossing all my fingers !

And do you think he will actually get that public apology? I highly doubt it. The whole thing will be framed as "protecting citizens".

At least you’re in the part of the province that’s been paroled...the whole GTA is still in detention because Toronto proper can’t get its act together... ;-( I’ll trade ya...
I don't mind it one bit personally, in fact I have been quite concerned since the first stage of the reopening happened because I was seeing fewer people wearing the masks (our neighbours even said they're happy the virus is gone 🤦‍♀️🤬) I however don't like that it brought all my family and friends out of the woodwork begging for masks when not one of them had reached out to see how I was handling things when they ALL know that I struggle with mild upsets to my days (see my signature!!) I have tons on hand because I find it helpful to keep busy and distracted so I've been handing those over.

the one very troubling thing is that they only gave 48 hours notice for people and businesses to get ready to comply. Btw you're not the only person who has mentioned they wish their community would follow suit.

Ok just need to vent for a minute . I stopped at the grocery store this aft aft work and No one except me wearing masks, even grocery stores staff.. the staff used to clean the belt between customers not today
I look on Facebook and a friend who keeps bugging me to hang out posts pics of her health care floor having a potluck sharing dip and all.. I saw pics of barber shops This am and they weren’t 6 ft apart ..
I think we will be in a rude awakening soon I’m afraid . I pray I’m wrong . I wish they would just make masks mandatory

I've been noticing the same thing since we reached stage one, fewer people wearing masks, staff gathering & chatting in the stores, more people gathering on the sidewalk to chat, people shopping just for an outing -- even complained to the manager at Metro on Tuesday that i didn't feel comfortable in the produce department since no staff had masks on and there were easily 10 of them standing in the middle of the section. Guess that won't happen here anymore!!

AS I mentioned above our neighbour actually said she's glad the virus is finally gone . I don't know what bothers me more, her ignorance about what is happening (to say nothing of the fact that we essentially share a doorway, keep to yourself please!) or those who no longer seem to care.

I am super glad we can expand our circle. I will admit that I need to be able to drop the boy off with my parents for a visit because this only us two time has about done me in! I have been going for a lot of walks to get out of the house and calm down. I love my son, don't get me wrong, but being confined for so long with him needing so much more activity, has been really hard.

I live near a small strip mall, there is a barber shop in it. There was quite the line up outside it this morning. Everyone was spaced out but there were a lot of them! I am sure it will calm down once people get their hair done and everything. My parent's hairdresser has decided not to open, they don't feel it's safe. Which is their choice of course. It is interesting that there are such varied opinions, some who are out there doing whatever, and others who are not doing anything. And everyone in between. I wear a mask when I shop, Kiddo wore one to a chip truck to get fries (which we had to take home to eat). We wash our hands a lot more often than before, and I try and limit outings to once a week.

Next week we have an appointment to go to the school and pick up anything that's left, I don't think there is much to be honest. He was pretty good and remembered to bring everything home with him before March break, except the cord for his chromebook which we picked up in April I believe it was. But I think all his school work is still there, all the little projects that normally get sent home at the end of the year. It is a bit sad, though he wasn't keen on his teacher this year (and she's apparently leaving the school at the end of June, as is his resource teacher which is really too bad, he actually liked her, and his principal). When September comes around it will be 6 months with no school. Online doesn't really count. Six months with no recess or playing with his friends, no learning, no structure. He was so excited to try out for all the teams, finally. I get he's not in the worst position, but man it sucks for these kids, all the kids. Let's hope that the adults are smart about this and behave so we don't have a massive second wave right when school should be reopening.

ive been doing online grocery orders at Walmart (and sat early at shoppers for pop, milk, bread etc, meat at foodland ..)
It was up to almost a 10-14 day wait for awhile now I can order next day .. I just don’t get it even simply for convenience . I get 24 packs of Gatorade , water , cat litter , anything heavy saves my back Lifting in and out of my cart and my time and Exposure. It’s like we aren’t in a pandemic at all anymore

The province continues to re-open slowly (no big phases here, more like regular small steps) and our numbers are continuing to go down. Woohoo! I have to say that every time I go out, there seem to be more people wearing a mask than the previous time. I would estimate the percentage to be 70-80% in stores and 80-90% in the commuter train.

I'm also in Ontario (Ottawa) and I'm worried. Half the people on the street had company last night. several cars worth. And these are households of 5+. Groups of 8 kids are out playing together and not distancing. I have young kids. They aren't good at this - I know. But we noticed a marked change in behaviour.

We know so many people who are "bubbling" with their parents and inlaws. Who are also bubbling with their other kids and grandkids. They are in bubbles of 20+. And who knows if non-family members are also being added.

That being said, numbers here are pretty low so it might be ok. But the wheels seem to have flown off.

I'm in Niagara region and I am very worried about the incoming visitors from Toronto. It was bad last summer before Covid and I imagine it to be worse now that we are opening and they aren't. I don't get the love of coming here. Other then the Falls there isn't much to do compared to Toronto.

i saw a tweet yesterday from a server in Kingston stating a lot of their patio tables were Toronto , Ottawa and even Montreal patrons. I keep telling the older kids all it will take is one case visiting and it will spread like wildfire because we have no herd immunity at all and everyone seems to have given up.

im not ready to do patios yet. I had a former coworker ask a bunch of us to meet up for supper Friday. I’m still ok with takeout.

I did have the littles downtown early Sunday am like 930 (Just at the water not shopping or anything ) and I will say having our city without the usual bus loads of tourists was actually quite nice. I know awful for the economy but it was so relaxing.

i did get really sad for a few minutes as daughter realized this year would be our fourth year helping out with the Triathlon it was a kind of all day mommy daughter community do good day and those opportunities are def limited this summer .
hugs to all keep staying safe .

While I understand your concern from a health standpoint , the flipside is that soooo many people rely on these tourism jobs to feed their families. Its seasonal work to begin with and many struggle during the winter as it is. I can’t even imagine what that is going to look like for the economics of our area this year. There just seems to be no easy answers. They very least our area could do is mandate masks for the places that are opening. I’m still not sure why we are leaving that up to chance.

I also would argue we live in an incredible biodiverse area with award winning wineries ,casinos, history, theatre, shopping, and dining. Niagara on the Lake is one of my favourite places, and the opportunities to get outdoors ad hike and bike around this area are abundant. There’s something for everyone.

My family and I wear our masks if we have to go out but we still plan to limit our interaction as much as we can and see how this all plays out. Its feeling like a dangerous experiment at this point and I’m not eager to be a test subject. I have the luxury of avoiding it though.. many don’t.

The reasoning behind out county going with mandatory mask wearing for stage 2 was 2-fold:
  1. our numbers jumped last week and they want to make sure it's not a trend
  2. we're within easy driving distance of the GTA and due to their numbers they are still only in stage 1
I was really glad we've been told to wear the masks because when we were out shopping on Saturday (funny story actually - our girls turned the pandemic to their favour and bought a house without the usual bully-bidding that happens with GTA residents due to our being on a GO Train line. They have been living in a small basement apartment while saving enough money to buy said house so we have been storing a LOT of their excess crap and they asked us to bring over a floor lamp when we went to help change the locks. Hubby broke the danged thing between here and there so we decided that would be a perfect anniversary present 🤣 I can't believe it's been 5 years since they got married -- I'm getting OLD!) While waiting in line to get into 2 of the stores we got to listen to people try and make their way in using the argument "we've driven all the way from Toronto, this isn't fair! You need to provide them ..." blah-blah-blah!!

I've seen a marked increase in groups socializing since Mother's Day. Our community has very low numbers, so it doesn't seem to have made a difference here.

Mask wearing is about 90% in stores here.

It's interesting that Dr Fauci (lead coronavirus guy in the US) is saying that mask usage was not advised at first because there weren't enough to go around. I wish they were mandatory to enter stores and such here. We have a few, every time we leave the house kiddo asks if he has to wear it? If we are just driving somewhere he doesn't have to until we get there.

I am very glad we can expand our circles, but do intend to still only do shopping once a week, social distance, all of that. But it is a bit tiring for sure, people are getting lazy about it. Habits. People certainly get up close at times, don't follow the arrows. Though when a store isn't busy I am not too worried about the arrows, more about staying well back or away from others.

So many congrats to your daughter and her wife! I still can’t believe Guelph is considered the GTA but it sure is . My husband and I are shocked at how much new development there is every time we drive up to visit my brother and family. And the prices are nuts. My daughter and her boyfriend moved into their first home in April. My brother and his wife lived with my parents for a year to work full time and save a down payment and bought a house last month too ! I am happy for these young couples being able to break into the market during all of this. It was definitely a break for all of them, wasn’t it ?

As for the masks , maybe we will experience a small uptick and our region will mandate them too.
