Price gouging

Not really, DW is twice the size or more and twice as better imo!

Twice? You can fit Disneyland within the limits of the Magic Kingdom parking lot. That is the second biggest advantage to Disneyland. First being the weather. Orlando gets twice as much rain as Seattle. Way too wet down there.

When we had a VIP tour day in WDW the guy said that all of Disneyland, DCA and Downtown Disney could fit into the Magic Kingdom parking lot with 500 parking spaces left.
It's part of why I love DL so much! You can walk everywhere and stay in a cheap cheap hotel

In Vegas the resort fee is per room. But it does not include parking. In that case though, parking isn't as plentiful so it's no surprise they charge for parking. And the parking fee is a relatively new one. Disney has plenty of space so charging for parking doesn't seem necessary in most places. If they wanted to charge at the resorts close to the parks given the fact that people in the past took advantage in these areas, that might make sense. Or they could just charge at the resorts for day visitors.

I'm wondering if people would feel differently if they gave free parking to people who purchase packages. Just a thought.

If you stay at a resort on the strip here in Las Vegas, there is ample parking. MGM decided to kick off parking fees and that was one of the nice things we had left- free parking! There are few places at popular destinations that offer free parking these days, sadly.

The parking was never free. Someone was paying for the $100,000 per parking spot it took for the casinos to build those parking structures. Some of those Las Vegas Casino structures cost $1,000,000,000 to build.

I work for a company that's been involved in the construction of some of those structures, so I know they're not cheap to build.

The point is, in cases like this and with Disney, consumers see a difference in "extra" fees versus an increased, existing fee.

I always fall on the side of a business setting the prices they want and the customer deciding if they need that product or not. However I'm at Disney world right now and over $4 for a single bottle of coke is ridiculous. As is almost $2.50 for a single bag of M&Ms.

At a quick service I got 2 frozen coffees, a pop, a kids Mac and cheese and a pizza. Almost $40. Nuts!

Apparently things are changing in Vegas and maybe Disney should pay attention.
Why would Disney worry about a property like the Wynn who's stock has tanked? Six months ago it was trading about 200, its now bounced back from a low to 112. If the rest of Vegas followed, maybe but I doubt Disney is worried about that right now.

But there are several stories on how Vegas has reached a tipping point and they believe the decrease of 1.5%(?) is related to the parking charges and resort fee increases. And it's not just at Wynn. If Disney is having soft bookings this fall/winter that might consider they have reached their tipping point. I have been on these boards for 20 yers and even through "Disney War" days have I seen so much chatter about prices and going off site. Add to the fact the DTD hotels get same benefits EMH & FP, why not stay there?. The Disney bubble has been removed with the Ikea decorating at least for us Yes the DTD hotels have resort fees and parking but I doubt it's too much longer before resort fees come into play at WDW, I hope not but it would not be a surprise.

I think the parking fee has me really irritated too..... I think it's b/c for YEARS that was a big selling point of staying at a disney hotel. It was sold to us as part of the magic of being onsite:rolleyes1 and we all knew that this came with higher room rates than average. What are we now presented with? the room rates have skyrocketed much higher than I could have imagined (even the "value" resorts) AND a new parking fee on top of that.... and guess what? I haven't had a car onsite in many years! I always bus or uber or whatever at disney. It just really bugs me...DS and I were having a conversation this morning -I was saying that this our first year in many years where we aren't at least planning something Disney.... he replied that it's b/c Disney is currently feeling 'mismanaged'. :thumbsup2 I thought that was pretty insightful, and I agree. Nothing is interesting to me at the current moment (Pandora was cool, but I've seen it) and I won't be paying the hiked prices currently.(sad) I hope to go in the future again someday, maybe when more is offered to compensate for all the price gouging.... then it won't feel like gouging, it might start to feel like an experience that's worth the premium prices again. IDK.

There are still good deals at Disney. I just go when they are selling rooms at the Poly for 55% off the rack rate.
