Politically correct?!

 Ridiculous!

I just told my DH about the change in the logo and the reasoning behind it. He can not believe how ridiculus this is. If it just showed Mickey holding a gun for no apparent reason, that would be one thing. "Fronteir" Mickey is representing America's past. He is dressed like the would of in the pioneer days and that includes holding a musket! He is not "commando" Mickey for crying out loud! Anyway, DH has just started to get into this pin craze thing (uh oh!:earseek: ) and I popped over to Ebay and grabbed him a "real" FW logo pin!! He says he will wear it proudly!;)

Another example of political correctness running AMOK!! This is absolutely ridiculous!! It reminds me of the name change at Dixie Landings! In any situation, it is impossible to please everyone, so doesn't it make sense to please the majority instead of some vocal minority who spends all its time complaining about things like this? Give me a break!

The name Dixie implies an image of the Old South (i.e. as with Tara in Gone With the Wind) with it's plantation society, and it's oppression through slavery.

I'm just answering your question, I don't agree with Disney's political correctness, so please don't attack me.

Gee, I guess all American schools better change their history books. Seems like NONE of American history has been "politically correct"!

Well, not to stand on a soap box here, but the teaching of history today seems to have been simplified. Most schools teach the kids that the Civil War was a single issue war (slavery), when they should teach that war was fought over several economic, political and cultural issues, but hostilities didn't break out until the states started to leave the union. The emancipation took place years later after the war started, and then it only applied to the southern states.

I guess my point is that ignorance is a driving force behind a lot of politcal correctness. I have never understood it, or any atempt to re-write history. If we follow their logic, shouldn't Disney boot out Germany (for the holocaust) and Japan (for the enslavement of Korea) out of EPCOT too ?

I also will be very interested to see what they do with the old stock of "old" logo merchandise. If they are having a clearance sale and someone is there and hears of it, please post and let the rest of us know. I will happily call the merchandisining number and pay for shipping if i can snag some "old" logo stuff before it is gone or simply destroyed.

I feel much better about the cash i blew last year on that spare tire cover, coon skin cap (with logo), novelty liscene plate and pins!!!!

My son wanted the cap so he could be Davie Crocket for halloween this year. I am already sewing his contume. He will be trick or treating with his musket! (got it at the cart across from the shooting gallery at MK. - i guess that will have to go eventually too!!!)

We were at Disney last weekend and will be going back this weekend. I got a Fort Wilderness est (the round one with Micky and musket) pin at Downtown Disney and saw them at all the pin shops in the parks all at 6.50 (regular price) It seems Disney is not so worried that they are willing to loose any money on merchandise over it. I don't like the new logo. It just does not look Disney.

I think the fake coonskin hats need to go to. After all, those poor animals were shot with muskets just to make hats to keep the pioneers warm. I never cease to be amazed at how evil our forefathers in this country were!!
I really like how they took all of the guns out of Ft. Sam Clemens at Tom Sawyer Island, too! All those holes in the walls that people used to shoot the fake guns out of, are great for practising your spitting from! Nice improvement!
Everybody knows that Davey Crockett didn't really need a gun (like Ole Betsy). He could just grin a b'ar to death!
What I really want to know is WHO are these people making these decisions? I would like to write to them with some suggestions about things they could do to make WDW completely politically correct.
Seriously, I've got my pin with Mickey and the musket. They can't get that from me...

I would also like to know who made that decision. I can't believe they would get that many complaints about the musket! I like the old logo much better.

Daughtersrus - just a small note to address something from your original post...
As with any 'toy' the smallest pieces are usually the ones lost first!! Which is the reason why Woody no longer had a gun... (I think Woody said something about it in TS1). But from the sound of things... it was probably not Disney's motivation behind it.

I have one word for the new logo - B O R I N G !!!! :bounce: You would think they would of at least placed a "hidden Mickey" on the flag or something!

I am also sorry to see the old logo removed. This is getting crazy, what next? The logo with the gun is not threatening or violent at all, its not like Mickey is holding an AK-47 or some other assault rifle.

I should have bought the sweatshirt with the old logo on it while I was there in July. Had I known about the logo change then, I definitely would have.
