Official 2023 Halloween Horror Nights 32 (Orlando)

Just wanted to stop by and thank everyone on this thread because we had an amazing first HHN and it’s a large part to everyone on this thread! We did all 10 houses, all 5 scare zones, rode 2 rides, saw the Death Eaters and the Megans, and saw Nightmare Fuel. We didn’t have express passes, just scream early. Our feet are killing us but it was worth it! We loved it and will definitely be back!!

Get in line really early, like by 3pm there will be a line of people waiting to get into the holding area. Entrance is by the statue where NY meets San Francisco. You probably won’t be let into the pen until after 4, but as soon as you tap in, you hustle down the street, turn left down the alley towards Transformers, then turn right and go into the ST4 line. You want to be in the first holding pen. People in the first pen will be held there until about 5, at which point you will be allowed across the street to preload the queue for the 5:15 opening.

After you get through, immediately go to Dueling Dragons (entrance near the library). It is the other house that opens at 5:15, and should be an extremely short wait, possibly a walk-on, depending on how far up you were in the ST4 queue.

After Dueling Dragons, head back down towards the Rip Ride Rocket stage where you’ll enter the Exorcist queue. This house is supposed to open at 5:30, but some nights will open a bit later, depending on how soon they are able to clear day guests.

If things go as planned, you’ll be done with all three houses at 6, or thereabouts.

Now, you can either go to Chucky OR go to Yeti, which both open at 6. My advice is to do Yeti first. It’s right there, so no doubling back. Moreover, Chucky has its own stay and scream waiting area, but it’s a relatively small crowd compared with the NY crowds. By the time you get finished with Yeti, the S&S people will be finishing up, and your line will be really short. If you end up taking more time getting through the first three houses, and it’s like 6:15 when you’re out of Exorcist, just go directly to Chucky because the line for Yeti will have grown enough that you’ll hit a wait there and a longer wait at Chucky.

After Chucky, you can hustle to the back houses and still have a decently short wait. Dr. Oddfellow’s line tends to build faster and move slower than Darkest Deal.
Hey,
This was such a wonderful and helpful post, and it was what I planned to do , but I don’t think now we’re going to be able, ok not willing, to line up for ST so early. Disney had kicked out butt this week w early mornings, late nights, abs currently the weather for this afternoon is still so iffy. We do have express and still plan on utilizing a stay/scream pen. My question is, if we’re not doing ST, is the pen the same for Exorcist, and does it also still open the earliest? I’m trying to find that chart that was posted w opening times .
Heading over to universal, checking in to SF in just a couple hours. Getting so excited. Little worried w weather, but we’re prepping for a rainy night, hoping it just stays cloudy last last night
Thanks to all for the wonderful advice here! Any other tips, tricks appreciated!

I'm wondering the same, or is it better just to stay and scream Last Of Us/Monsters and come back to ST4 later in the evening with express

So, our last HHN of the year, Sunday of Columbus Day was one of the lowest wait times :) a win!

stay & scream, finnegans by 4:45 pm. No EP. Hustled, had the early show & all houses but Exorcist and Bloodmoon done by 10:30 pm.

Finally got to see the Dementors, settled for watching the M3gans dance on YouTube

Nice that our family’s 1st timers then were able to go play in the scare zones and do repeats runs thru their favorite houses & the coaster.

12+ miles, my feet blistered for first time in years lol.

So how many nights did you go - I'm hoping to catch the M3gans but seems like its not so easy.
nine

i did “hear” them dance a couple times.

Problem is, crowd had already formed around them at least 10 people deep.

Don’t understand why they just didn’t put up a small stage, akin to the one they used to have where the crepe stand area…even if it was just small one, incorporated into a scare zone.

I agree. The closest I got in my 5 nights was seeing them getting escorted out after using a restroom with a really long line…I really wanted to see them. I got a blurry picture of them walking by :(

How long is it taking for the crowds at the gate to get in? I am noticing before 8 pm the wait times are not too bad. After that the lines jump. I am coming in next Wednesday and was planning on taking a nap and head over around 9p. I kind of take the path of least resistance. If a house it at 35 min I’ll go to that one. I have plenty of nights to go so I am not worried. Seeing the wait times for the last couple of weeks I am thinking I might want to use the resort entrance at the beginning and leave around 8p and make a Walmart run. Then go back around 12. Does anyone have any suggestions? What has been your experience when the gates open?

Yeah that's what they do in Hollywood its in a theater and they also have the knives from what I have seen.

I guess the one in Orlando is meant to be a flash mob as they were doing that in various cities to promote the film I guess.

Thats a lot of nights to not see them - I guess if you hang around the area you might get lucky - but of course there are two areas. Universal could provide some hints at a minimum.

Anyone know how many times a night they perform?

Anyone ever book a regular hotel package and then switch to horror nights vacation package once released?

Driving home to TN. Did HHN Thursday night! Had an awesome time, but feet/ legs gave out by 11:30. Fully intended to freshen up in room, and go back before 1:00, but that didn’t happen.
Almost all houses were incredible. Will have to think on my rankings, but tops for me was The Exorcist . Really wish I’d gotten to repeat it, but it had it all. Also fabulous were Stranger Things, dr Oddfellow, Bloodmoon.
Saw lots of Deatheaters in DA..they were great to watch.
Had prepared for rain, but barely had a few sprinkles all night. Ended up being soooooo muggy and humid tho, and I logged 2 raincoats, and an umbrella for nothing.
Express pass was worth every single penny! Hope all who are still going, have a fabulous time.

Can anyone on this thread tell me if those Dr oddfellow podcast episodes were helpful to review before you went? Haven't had time to listen and would be tempted to skip if they're really not that crucial to understanding the house or any themed scare zones

We went for the first time Friday night, and going back tonight. I go with my dad, who has a bad back, so no 12 mile forced march to try to see everything for us. With Express, but with his needing to take a lot of breaks, we did 4 houses, 4 scarezones, and Nightmare Fuel. And we still logged just under 5 miles of walking.

My initial impression is that the event feels very out of balance this year. Too many houses and not enough of anything else. The whole back of the park is a dead zone, no scareactors, which really took us out of the immersive feeling. The zones that do exist are small, except for Vamp 69--which felt big and empty. That's the same area where they used to do The Purge, and that one was so dynamic. I feel like there are a lot of missed opportunities--not that the scareactors aren't doing their best, but they have very little to work with this year. And the lack of shows is just appalling....I want them to bring back Bill and Ted, but literally anything would work: bring Brian Brushwood back to the Animal Actors stage, or put up another temp stage in front of Mel's and do something like Jack's show from a few years back. Or even mini-shows like they had the icons year. Anything to draw people in and keep the immersion going.

Did I miss something, or are there about 3 people total with chainsaws this year? Bring back the chainsaw gang!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the other 6 houses. So far I've been impressed with the houses themselves, I feel like they're strong this year. But we always have Ultimate Frequent Fear passes, and our most enduring memories are of playing in scarezones...fun in-character interactions that can be had even while sitting on a bench taking a rest. We're going to try dividing up the park lengthwise for the rest of the year--EITHER doing the soundstages/Chucky/Death Eaters and trying to get what we can out of the scarezones on that side, OR just working our way through the houses on the dead side with no scarezones. Hopefully that will help minimize the walking while also helping to maintain the immersion. Cause coming around through Springfield from the back of the park is just depressing. Will report back after we see how well that works tonight.

Yeah this seems to be they way the last few years honestly.

Scarezones have become less and less about the zone and more and more about selfies.
I used to really enjoy the scarezones, but they are just not what they once were.

This year is a bit worse since I think Disney said they cant do HHN in the Simpsons area - so no roving chainsaws there - at least they allowed the death eaters in the HP area this year. I used to sit there for hours and watch the folks react to the roving chainsaws.

They probably should have had more of the m3gans shows since its popular and seems like even with multiple nights people are not able to catch it.

Lack of a second scheduled show is a problem as you point out

But again they seem to be making a ton of money - although Friday looked a lot less busy than previous Fridays (watching a live stream)

Ah, that explains it. Well, I'm glad to hear that decision was out of their hands, it makes me feel a little better. But that does create an enormous problem that they're going to have to figure out a way around, because this isn't working at all.

They're definitely making money. Friday was my first night this year, and I knew it would be busy, but wow. Everything just felt packed to the gills all night long. But it didn't used to be solely about that. A&D took so much pride in crafting the event. But now Mike's gone over to work on Epic, and I suspect some of the team went with him. Not sure who's in charge of event design now, I suspect it's marketing. And that's a real shame :(

I did want to add how great the scare actor was in between the 2 parts of the Chucky house. I plan to send a team member compliment. He was totally getting into the role about warning people not to continue into the next part of the house. I had on an LSU lanyard, and he worked that in the spiel. He was great!!
I"m not a Chucky fan. Haven't seen the movies, and don't want to, but am familiar with the character. I saw So many Chucky shirts tho,so lots of folks are big fans. Saw SOOOO many Stranger things shirts also, so lots and lots of fans there for that. I liked the last season, so was very happy with that house.
I know Exorcist is based on the new movie, but to me , it harkened back to the original, which is still in my top 5 scariest movies of all time. Probably top 3. Omen also in the top 3, that would be a cool house.

Quick note…

Nightmare Fuel’s Red Queen did fall last work date. Believe the non-acrobatic one was on last night.

Anyway, a tough gal, show went on tonight and she’s reported to be in fine form. 👻

phew

All i can say is WOW. We went last night ( 10/14 ) , and the crowds were huge!

I can't remember when the last time we had so many people in line for a house!

Made it in to City walk around 1:30 with time to spare, stopped at Voodoo doughnut and had some donuts, tried the maple bacon, the ODB, and in all honestly i think the allure of the donuts are more of a one of a kind experience.

The donuts IMO were average, tasted like sugar level 5000.

Not bad just not "wow" .

We made our way towards the early scream and they were letting people in at 2:50 , 4 years ago we were told no one gets in a second before 3 pm, my guess is they had overwhelming sales of early access.

Took photos with Johnny and Rosita of Sing, and took photos with Optimus Prime.

Once they announced the park is closing we made our way over to the NY holding area.

Went into Louies Pizza place and hade a beer and some spaghetti, then made our way to ST4 and got in que

We ended up using the bulk of our early access waiting in line for ST4. Got in line at 5:15 and came out of the house at 6:20

After that went through Exorcist 2 after that made our way to DD just as planned then had a choice of either Yeti or Chucky, once we made our way to Chucky the wait time increased to 40 minutes, but felt longer

We only made it through 5 houses and by the time we came out of Dr. Odfellows it was already 11pm.

The crowds were huge, nothing like before. There was definitely more people than i remembered. Someone suggested that they should open up IoA in the future to alleviate the crowds and that would definitely help

Back hurts, feet hurt, body hurts

Next year we will have to re think our choice of halloween haunted houses

Yeah they are more about instagram than taste IMO - they do look amazing but they are nothing special IMO - I cant imagine going to the hassle of brining a box of those home.

Yeah - they have done that before but that would add a ton more walking and getting between the two parks through the backlot is not the best - it can be done - they do it for the OI Meetup.

I think its at the point where they need to do that - of course closing both parks early will anger a lot of folks as well. Maybe they could stagger it and open IOS at 7 or even 8.
