Bingo!! Someone said something about the new front page, and that triggered something in my mind. So, I just now did a little experiment.
I've always had the initial forum index bookmarked. That how I normally got here. Well -- what? two weeks ago? -- is when I started having trouble. I would come in through my normal bookmark, but all I could get -- all weekend -- was a light colored page with teeny tiny blue pin stripes. I'd wait and I'd wait, and that's all I'd get. So, I thought the DIS boards were down. Imagine my surprise when I went to work the following Monday, followed that same bookmark (on a PC, IE, Windows 2000) and saw the brand spanking new "front page." I was thrilled! I thought the DIS boards were back up, and I fully expected to go home that night and log on with no problem.
Not! It didn't happen. But, it did lead to the discovery that the pages just load incredibly slow now from home (Mac G4, OSX, IE) . . . and, unfortunately, that's where I have more time to DIS.
Anyway, tonight, I thought I'd try a little experiment, that might or might not help Alex's efforts. I came here by way of that same initial bookmark (
www.disboards.com), and I timed each stop along the way.
It took 4 1/2 minutes to load that main page.
It took 1 1/2 minutes to load the Tech Support Board.
It took 1 1/2 minutes to load page 1 of this thread.
It took 2 minutes to load page 2 of this thread.
It took 1 3/4 minutes to load this reply page.
So, all in all, it took me 11 1/4 minutes to reach this point. (By comparison, it took 15 seconds to load the DVC Discussion board; 28 seconds to load the Theme Parks board.)
What does all of this mean? I don't have a clue. But
Alex is working so hard to figure this out, I felt like I had to do something to try to help. Or would you rather just have brownies, Alex? Or maybe a juicy steak -- you're W.I.S.H.ing, too, aren't you?
Just please, please, please don't give up on us. We really do appreciate your efforts.
Disneymad,
thanks for the Netscape suggestion. I don't have it on this computer right now, but I'll have to check out a download. It would be interesting to see if that helps. By the way, it's nice to meet another Mac person!!
