New menus at the Polynesian's Kona Cafe

The lunch/dinner menu is all over the place. On one hand, they're attempting to be a top-flight steakhouse, where sauces and sides are extra--served in a hotel lobby coffee shop. The pan-Asian offerings are a really strange mix of a ramen shop, PF Chang's and the Kona Grill chain. Oh, and burgers, too! I can't think of another menu that is so unfocused.

Worst of all, the prices are higher than Morimoto in some cases! $24 for ramen (vs $17), $32 for duck fried rice where Morimoto charges $29 for actual Peking Duck, and most offensive of all, Kona Cafe's sushi rolls are more expensive than the Iron Chef's. Let that sink in--more expensive than a gorgeous, signature restaurant.

It's such a lovely resort, with terrific bars/lounges, but their food program needs a lot of work. The Spirit of Aloha luau food is a joke, Kona needs a cohesive theme, and 'Ohana seems to be concerned mostly with turning the tables as quickly as possible.
