Just back - room check info

We stayed at BRV in February. Had two rooms. My 2-bedroom was checked between 10am and Noon each day. She simply walked in to the kitchen, took the garbage and left. That was the extent of her check. My daughter's studio was a different story. I had requested no housekeeping, due to allergies, but was told they HAD to come in the room each day to check and get garbage. Her room was checked anywhere between 10am and 5pm; never the same time. When they knocked while she was in the room she told them she didn't need housekeeping. The housekeeper never told my daughter she needed to check the room. Two hours later my daughter comes back from Roaring Forks and enters her room. There was no cart outside her room or was the door propped open. She turns around and the housekeeper comes walking out of the bathroom. Scared the daylights out of my daughter. The lady never apologized or explained why the door wasn't propped open. When we original checked in I did ask if they could come during a certain time period and was told I could ask but it wouldn't be guaranteed.

Was at Kidani from Mar. 22-25. The first full day I was there I don't think I received a security check because my trash was never emptied. On Saturday I left the room around 10 and came back around 2. Trash still there. About 4:30 pm a guy knocks and says it's "maintenance/security check" he comes in and proceeds to turn on my faucets and flush the toilet. Ok fine what ever. Never looked in the closet. So I'm thinking I'm good to go ahead and take a shower because I've had my security check. Nope. At 5:30 pm another knock at the door from another man "maintenance/security check". I tell him it's already been done but let him an anyways. He proceeds to flip light switches but never checks the closet. And nobody emptied my trash the whole time I was there! I did go down to the front desk to let them know that I had the security check done twice in 1 hour. Was not looking for compensation or anything just wanted them to be aware that it was very odd.

So, they're disturbing guests (and in some cases disrespecting privacy), but don't seem to be checking rooms in ways that would actually improve security! :confused3 If they just check the kitchen, what about the bedroom/bathroom/balcony?

Add to that, the reports from people who are finding HK/security being quite unfriendly, even rude, to them in the process and this just seems a ridiculous way to treat paying guests. You can't talk to and treat everyone as if they're criminals, even if you do need to check all rooms. There are ways of creating and running systems that still show respect and consideration.

P.S. Is it yet easy for guests to recognize that the person at the door actually is Disney Security? Have they addressed that?

I have read several posters who thought people would not steal for a few dollars. Well I have an example of stupidity that just makes me go WHY? I work IT for the federal government and we have a ton of rules as you may understand. When we issue a laptop I warn each and everyone if you surf the internet and look up sports I don't care, if you surf just about anything we don't care. But if you gamble on my machine and surf porn not only will you lose your job but you could go to jail. And every year or so someone just doesn't believe us and I am talking people who make $80K-$140K a year. If you give people a chance to be stupid there are going to be people who take you up on the offer.

I haven’t read the whole thread.

I rarely suspect housekeeping with such issues. But the way housekeeping has functioned, leaving their cart in front of one open-door room while working in the next door room, allows for guests to enter rooms that aren’t theirs. And that’s the huge issue I’ve had with housekeeping, and one of the reasons we rarely have them come in.

You not allowing housekeeping in is the reason that they are doing security checks.

Because they are forcing themselves into rooms when people are trying to sleep, shower, etc. That is unprecedented. That is abnormal.

I have traveled quite a bit, and my stbx has traveled more, and neither of us has EVER experienced this sort of thing.

I understand that it can be inconvenient for guests and I feel bad for the babies getting naps interrupted. However I believe the benefits of checks outweigh that inconvenience. Disney or any other hotel can not be expected to follow a certain time frame for security checks. That would defeat the purpose of the checks. I also don't believe they could come up with a time frame that would be acceptable to everyone. There are many guests that come from a different time zone, whether that be international or just coming from the West coast. For example one baby may be napping at 11am while others may not nap until 3pm. Some eat dinner early at 4pm while others choose to eat at 9pm so shower times will vary as well. Some people are early risers while others like to sleep until noon. The point being every guest is different and it would be impossible to come up with any schedule that would be acceptable to all. And again giving a time frame defeats the entire purpose of it being for security.
Many people that are having issues with security checks would also be the first to blame Disney if something horrible were to happen and then say they didn't do enough. I guess they can't please everyone. Having seen what can and does happen in hotel rooms, I am glad they are doing checks, to help keep all guests safe.

You flew with those items in your checked bag?

We're done here.

I will once again advise posters to re-familiarize themselves with the DISboards guidelines for posting. Personal arguments are not welcome on these boards. They derail threads that are otherwise helpful, contribute nothing useful to the discussion, and are of no interest to anyone other than the people doing the arguing.

Here are your options if you feel drawn into a personal argument:

1) If you feel the poster has violated the DIS guidelines, use the report post button and let the moderators handle it.

2) Ignore the post and move on to another post, or another thread. If you have a particular problem with one poster, you can use our Ignore feature, and you will no longer see that person's posts.

You will note that there's no option for "jump into the argument." It doesn't matter that you feel you've been provoked; it doesn't matter who started it.
