Idea for Podcast or is there a past Podcast I've missed on "Orlando Food"

Tijuana Flats - local chain with several locations. Two people can have a feast for under $25 bucks. Good, fresh Mexican at a bargain price. Have eaten in a TF twice this week.

Peperoncino - small "out of the way" Italian restaurant that is as close to eating in Italy as any place I've ever been in the US. Good food, medium prices. Five minutes from Disney, off Sand Lake Road in the Bellagio Complex.http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/26/1648002/restaurant/Restaurant-Row/Peperoncino-Orlando

The Catfish Place - This is in St Cloud. It's about 30 minutes from Disney, but this is a true Florida restaurant. If you want authentic....this is it. It's casual with medium prices, but it's well prepared food. We eat here often.

Bull and Bear - We think this is the best restaurant in Orlando. The prices are high, but the value is there. Great food, great atmosphere, service above reproach...it's the whole package. This is inside the Waldorf Astoria adjacent to Disney property.

Yellow Dog Eats literally could not be anymore out of the way. I lived behind MK for 6 months which is 10 minutes from EVERYTHING... and it still took 20 minutes to get there.

With that said, it IS delicious. Although I'm still bitter that I ordered a side of pasta salad and got a container the size of a thimble.

All things considered though, assuming you'll be at Disney, if you're discussing 4Rivers and Ravenous Pig... those are both 30ish minute drives up I-4... so if you're willing to do that, taking the back roads to Yellow Dog is entirely feasible.

Yeah, I don't mind. I live 45 minutes from Nashville and that's a common drive to get something more than the college town I live in would offer.

Excellent. I will probably (with the two trips) hit the first 3. Bull and Bear scares me to drag a 4 year old in there. She does really well at places like 'Husk' or SNOB in Charleston SC but I think this is more the NYC style dining from what I read.

You know your 4 year old better than anyone...but please dont be concerned about this being stuffy or too grand.

Bull and Bear realizes that they are in a resort area and in a hotel that caters to tourists.

I would say that Bull and Bear is like NYC in that the food is excellent, but even though the decor is lush and beautiful...it's not at all stuffy.

We had dinner there this week and everyone wore shorts. I'd say that we all had on collared shirts, but shorts are completely acceptable.

As for walking distance...it could be done, but in 94 degree weather, I'd arrive a hot, sweaty mess and who wants to sit down to a nice dinner that way?

Really? When do you arrive? We'll be there the last week in October. We leave for home early morning on November 3.

Check in on the 1st of Nov. and head over to MNSSHP and spend a week there and then head over the following week at Sheraton Vistana Villages (I wish they renamed it Del Boca Vista).

Very cool. Yeah, my wife and I are mid (myself) to late (wife) 30s. So, she's dragged to older folk stuff and knows there is payoff for being good. I usually wear khaki's and a button up on vacation so Bull and Bear is definitely in play now. I really am all about Ravenous Pig because of James Petrakis. Everyone says he's amazing. Bull and Bear may happen in January after our Half Marathon Run. Yachtsman, Narcooses and Bull and Bear sound like 3 great dinners.

Bad Kevin. Now you're making me want to go try these!

Looking at their menu The Bull and Bear looks reasonable for that style of restaurant with their acclaim and being in the Waldorf. In fact, I've eaten at other Waldorf restaurants and the prices seemed higher from memory.

Thank God these can be for tax write-offs with the line of work I do.

If its any help, I'll second Kevin's recommendation for Bull & Bear. pirate:

Sadly, while I'm extravagant, most people aren't willing to drop that kind of money on a dinner without it being a date or special occasion.

Doing research last night on these two. Kevin, I don't know if you could have picked two more contrasting establishments. I love it. Catfish Place reminds me of many deep south catfish houses I grew up eating in with my grandparents (although mine were Alabama so no Gator or Turtle).

Tijuana Flats is right up my alley since I love the concept (shouldn't be a concept to do it but a standard) to serve fresh.

Thanks, I'm adding these to the November trip and the other two to January.

As long as you are in St Cloud, check out Mutt's on 13th.

It's a converted gas station that has turned into an old fashioned burger joint.

They have great burgers and other typical stuff but they have a fried pork sandwich that is excellent.

This is a "fry everything" kinda place, but when that's what you are in the mood for...this is the place.

It's where I go for a corn dog fix.:)

Man I need to stop reading this thread. It is just making me hungry.

Will take these suggestions next time in town.:thumbsup2

Honestly, I am training for the Half Marathon and to shrink my fat butt right now and all I eat is greek yogurt and baked chicken, lean meats and fish. By the time I hit Orlando that stops. I've lost 50 lbs since Jan. and am nearing the goal weight. So, I need to stumble a little :rotfl: Mutts may need to make the list.

I don't know if Kevin or anyone in Orlando will read this but, is there a "Food" that is Orlando's? I mean a dish they are known for making?

I.E. like shrimp and grits in Charleston, Pizza in NYC or Hot Dogs in Chicago.

Not that I can think of.....

Judging by what I see in the parks: chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, and of course the turkey legs.
