I wish the new private island had a pool.

No, I have a pool nearby. Not cruising to a tropical island for what I have back home.
Same. In fact I have a large inground pool. However, I live in the northeast. That really limits my pool season. Love to travel in Jan/Feb when winter is hitting hard for a little tropical break, but sometimes the ocean is still pretty chilly. A pool would be awesome to offer another option on those colder, rougher or rainy days. Beach wheelchairs are cool, but don’t suit everyone and pools are accessible for almost everyone.

Disney gonna do what Disney gonna do. I was just excited for the new island and it seems more like castaway 2. I thought maybe they would give it a different feel. I’m sure it will be lovely no doubt and I’m hoping to love it.

I think this thread is proof that different people like different things. No reason you can't appease both. I personally LOVE the pool idea. We use the pool with swim-up bar on Coco Cay all the time...ever since they redid that island, my wife prefers it to Castaway!

We also like the quiet peacefulness of the beach. I don't understand people's animosity here towards others opinions. No reason Castaway and Lighthouse have to be exactly the same, and no reason they can't appease both those that want quiet beach and a more party-like pool environment.

I understand Disney not wanting a full on waterpark, especially given the nature-preserving initiatives of LP, but a large pool would have been nice (and could be ignored by those that don't want it)

Well and plenty of families who would rather have a quiet natural beach and not chase their kids around a concrete pool complex or water park. And/or who feel the the water slides on the ship are enough for their teens.

You could make the same argument for anything. There are some people who are turned off of disney because it doesn’t have a drinks package or casino and others who prefer disney because of that. Different cruise lines appeal to different sets of people.
but the beach will be quieter with the water park as less people will be on the beach (particularly the noisy ones). Water parks take up a very small amount of room. The quiet beach argument is an argument for the waterpark. Not against it.

and once again shouldnt it be about what the kids want? If kids prefer the pool over the beach then they should have that option. No one is saying build the pool instead of the beach. Have both.

It would have been nice to have a pool just for the sake of having options and to give you something at LP that you don't get at CC. But I'm also not necessarily heartbroken about it either.

Nope. I don't really care what kids want.
lets frame it another way. Would you rather have all the kids surrounding you on the beach screaming and fighting with each other or would you rather a large share of them were off somewhere else out of view and earsight leaving you to the serenity of a tropical beach?

And I know you aren’t kidding. Couldn‘t help laughing.

I state I don’t want the pool - but find the pools at the resorts nice, even the Budget resorts with lots of kids.

It is the idea of swim-up bars, music, and the “party-like pool atmosphere” that creates a reaction in me. It’s possible they could put in a pool and still maintain the Disney cruise experience many of us prefer - and show by selecting Disney over Royal. It’s not just the feeling of nickel and diming, it is an environment of party.

… But, also, let’s look at an unspoken factor here: safety. There have been drowning incidents on the ships. Lifeguards weren’t on the ships. Newer cruisers may not realize this. Those little pools. But if you get to a certain capacity point, you cant see everyone. I imagine this topic was reviewed by the lawyers ad nauseum. I’m pretty sure Disney has paid a LOT of money to families to keep a lid on this.
People are far more likely to drown in the ocean than a pool. a pool makes people more safe if the alternative is to only swim in the ocean.

and why does a pool automatically mean music and party atmosphere?

Honestly? Kids are going to do whatever kids do, no matter what I prefer. But, there's already an adult-only beach that keeps them away.

As I wrote before, I'm sure that some kids would like a pool. However, I really doubt that too many kids will be disappointed to not have one. Why would they even think of it when they already have everything else that the island has to offer?

Besides, the pools at Disney resorts are loud and crowded and always feature noisy events and games. I wouldn't want to experience that on the island.

Actually the screams from the water park DO carry and make the "quiet" beach not so quiet.

Once they choose Royal and have to pay for each different activity at their private island they might change their minds.
I don't understand this comment...you make it sound like Royal is the only one that charges extra for things on their island. For the record, Royal charges for 3 things...Waterpark, hot air balloon, and zip line....none of which Disney has.

They both charge for things like pool floats and snorkel rentals. Disney charges for bike rentals. Neither of them charges for things like food, beach access, etc.

But Royal has a pool (the topic of this thread) and they do NOT charge for it. They also have a kids water slide play area that puts Disney's small water play area to shame (also free)

I do! We are sailing on RCL next year - first time ever - and I'm so excited Coco Cay has a pool! Of course, I'm still thrilled with LP.

I'm torn about the idea of a pool.

I live in the mid-Atlantic and don't have easy access to a pool. When I go somewhere, 99% of the time I prefer a pool to the ocean. I 100% would rent a house with a pool at the beach to just sit in the pool.
BUT
I love Castaway Cay. I don't mind the lack of a pool because easy access to bathrooms, food, etc., etc. The beach is lovely and the waves aren't rough.
SO
I am leaning toward not missing a pool, but I can see the argument for one.
