i want adventure in the great wide somewhere - running journal! (comments welcome)

Sounds like a great day and seeing Gronk was the topper. Funny, Gronk at TB I don't mind. Brady now falls into the category every non-NE fan has put him in for the last 20 years! (Accomplishments notwithstanding) I never was a fan of the whole TB12 thing anyway.

To be honest, I've never been a Pats or TB fan - I don't care about football. While at the park, I did LOUDLY mention how all those Bucs fans HATED TB12 a year ago and suddenly they were lining up to see him. (Although, Brady never goes to Disney the next day, according to a local who goes every year to see the parade.)

March Miles!

March 2: 4.01 miles • 43:37 • 10:53 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club!

March 9: 4.06 miles • 45:38 • 11:00 15 pace
Tuesday night with the club!

March 13: 3.12 miles • 39:08 • 12:32 avg pace
A Saturday morning with the club. I parked right at 8 am and they had left a minute early, so I had to hustle to catch up with a group. Luckily, a small group took a walking break and I was able to catch up and join them for the rest of the 3 mile route. My first mile was 10:42 and then my last two were over 13:00!

March 23: 3.00 miles • 34:06 • 11:22 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club!

March 30: 2.76 miles • 31:35 • 11:27 avg pace
Tuesday with the club, but one of the girls started cramping really badly so two of us turned around and went back early with her.

In between some of these runs were some nice long walks with my mom!

April Miles!

April 6: 4.21 miles • 52:40 • 12:31 avg pace

We had a new runner with us on this Tuesday night who wanted to start with 3 miles, but she felt good so we added mile 4!

April 13: 4.02 miles • 48:17 • 12:01 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club!

April 17 Part 1: 6.40 miles • 1:20:28 • 12:35 avg pace
My friend ran his virtual Disney Marathon! I joined him for the first 6 miles. I hadn't run further than 4 miles since February, so this felt really great!

After running, I went back home to shower and have some lunch and hang with our friend Bridget before she and I met him back at the lake for his finish. I knew I wouldn't want to run the last loop alone, which is why I joined him for...

April 17 Part 2: 3.84 miles • 56:29 • 14:43 avg pace

The last 4 miles! He really only slowed down a little bit! He was hurting but he finished. I had his medal and shirt in my car... and surprise! A beer! Then he went home to rejuvenate a little bit and we all went out for dinner and drinks to celebrate.

April 20: 4.01 miles • 46:17 • 11:33 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club!

April 21 Speed Work Week 1: .97 miles • 10:04

This was the first week of my 6-week speed work program! I thought it started at 6:30, but it really started at 6:00. Oops. It was a mile warm up (I did not track this on my watch), 2 400-meter runs at 5k pace (also did not track), followed by a one mile time trial! According to my watch, it was about a 10 minute mile, but according to my coach's stopwatch, I came in at 8:58! (I'll take the faster time thankyew.) Then we had a mile jog/cool down back to our cars.

April 27: 4.01 miles • 45:03 • 11:14 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club!

April 28 Speed Work Week 2: 2.04 miles • 21:40 • 10:38 avg pace
Week 2 started with a one mile warm up and some drills. Then we did 4 x 800s at 5k pace and 4 x 200 sprints. I did two of the 200 meter sprints because I started wheezing and she said we didn't have to do anymore. The miles & time above are those 800 meters, but I also have my 200 sprints, which came to .23 miles and it took 1 minute and 41 seconds to run them.

Also not tracked was the first week of the couch to 5k program I volunteered at on 4/14.

May Miles (and the first week of June)!

May 4: 3.00 miles • 32:34 • 10:50 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club but peep that pace!

May 5 Speed Work Week 3: 3.00 miles • 31:56 • 10:40 avg pace
This girl is on fire! This is week 3 of speed work and we ran our winter 5k course with intervals of .25 miles fast, 2:00 slow and we did that... eight times.

May 13 Speed Work Week 4 (on my own): 1.01 miles • 10:25
This is just my warm up. The actual workout was hills. 3 times up the hill for 90 second at 10k pace. 30 times up the hill for 60 seconds a 5k pace. 3 times up the hill for 15 second sprints. This actually killed me. I was so sore.

May 18: 4.00 miles • 46:05 • 11:31 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club!

May 19 Speed Work Week 5: 3.07 miles • 33:11:04 avg pace
I didn't track everything, but it was a short warm up with drills, then a mile to the loop. At the loop we did ladders. 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 mile, 800m, 400m, 200m. I tracked the mile there, then the two half mile loops and the mile loop. This was a tough one but I finished MOSTLY in the time frame our coach wanted me in.

May 22: 3.16 miles • 35:03 • 11:06 avg pace
Saturday morning with the club! Got a pair of running sunglasses for free that are not at all flattering (I was able to pawn them off on someone else).

May 26 Speed Work Week 6 (Final Week!): 1.89 miles • 20:59 • 11:05 avg pace || .97 • 9:57
So this is the warmup. We did about 5 minutes and drills, then the mile to the loop. At the loop we did two 400m warm ups, then the timed mile.

Let's talk about the timed mile,
because in week 1 my coach had me a 8:38 (I had myself at 10:04). That night was cool and rainy. This week it was about 90 degrees and humid. Coach didn't time us, so we went by my watch which said 9:57. Hey, I was under 10:00 in terrible conditions, so I won't complain. She also said that realistically we could cut about 10% of our time off to see our actual fitness, which for me would mean cutting off about a minute (if I did my math right, it's totally possible I didn't because I am awful at math).

June 1: 3.96 miles • 43:16 • 10:55 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club! Another warm night.

June 2: 3.11 miles • 32:17 • 10:23 avg pace
LET'S TALK. So, some of us from the speed work group decided we wanted to do a timed 5k, so we met up last night and did our club's 5k course. This was total redemption. It was a much nicer night and I realized pretty quickly that I was zooming through my first mile, like, at one point I was averaging an 8-something pace. So I decided to hell with mile 2 and 3, let me run this mile pretty darn fast (not 8:00 fast, though, I still wanted to finish the 5k). So I slowed down a little bit and went for it. First mile was 9:20.

Do we need to talk about mile 2 and 3? Okay, fine. Mile 2 was 10:30 and Mile 3 was 11:29 (and I was gassed - took a few walking breaks). But I killed my first mile and that's what was important to me and now I know more about what I am capable of.

Sounds like you’re doing awesome with your speed work and also doing better now! Loved the Disney trip update! Looked like it was a blast!

Thanks! The only problem with speed work is that, to maintain the speed, I need to continue doing speed work even after the 6 week program is up! LOL

The trip was SO fun! Much needed day with the baby cousin (though I wish I had gotten one more day to go to Epcot for a margarita... Next time!)

Disney Marathon 2022 Training Journal

How exciting is it that the Disney Marathon 2022 Training Journal title is actually a possible reality now! Just have to get my bib later this month. Let's go over my June miles (+ the first two weeks of July) and then I'll talk training plan!

June 8: 3.95 miles • 45:28 • 11:31 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club. I don't remember the weather, but looking at that pace, I am guessing it was Hot. Actually... I think I was at camp a few days later and telling someone about the run and their reaction was horror that I had gone for a run in that heat so...

June 22: 4.01 miles • 44:44 • 11:10 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club. Not much of a memory of the weather, but it was during summer staff training for work so I was probably exhausted and more in need of a drink than a run.

June 29: 3.02 miles • 34:00 • 11:15 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club. My watch crapped out on me, so I got the stats from one of the women I ran with. Not sure what was going on with the watch but it is what it is.

July 6: 3.00 miles • 36:33 • 12:10 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club, and technically, day 1 of the marathon training plan. This was a slower run than normal because we ran with a woman who is relatively new to the club and a recent graduate of our club's couch to 5k program who needed a few walking breaks. We didn't mind taking them. It was another hot one.

July 10: 5.5 miles • 1:01:26 • 11:10 avg pace
Saturday morning club run and my first long run of the marathon training plan! I haven't run more than 4 miles in... momths, so I am very glad that I can still run more than 4 miles without stopping. I had planned on taking this at 11:30-12:00 pace, but I ended up with 11:10 and love that. Not sure of my splits because my watch crapped out on me again and I got these stats from a woman I run with pretty regularly. She had only planned on doing 5 but tacked on the last half mile with me so I could get the correct stats because she is the absolute best and nicest person I know.

Okay... here is the training plan. 3-4 miles on Tuesdays and Thursdays (listen, I skipped the first Thursday run this week because I had done a workout class on Wednesday and needed a break. Also there was a lot of PM rain and storms and I am nothing if not a fair weather runner) and a long run on the weekend.

I have a 10 mile race I am signed up for on August 28 and I am playing with the idea of a half marathon on October 10. Hoping for a POT, though they have made the requirements much more challenging than ever before and it may be just out of reach for me (which is OK - a POT is just a nice cushion and I can and will run at a pace that allows me to finish well within the time limit).

Here is the rough plan for the rest of the training cycle. Happily accepting feedback/thoughts/recommendations.

  • 7/17 - 3 miles
  • 7/24 - 7 miles
  • 7/31 - 3 miles
  • 8/7 - 9 miles
  • 8/14 - 4 miles
  • 8/21 - 6 miles
  • 8/28 - 10 miles (race)
  • 9/4 - 4 miles
  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13.1 miles (tentative race)
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles
  • 12/25 - 6 miles
  • 1/1 - 7 miles
  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)

June 8: 3.95 miles • 45:28 • 11:31 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club. I don't remember the weather, but looking at that pace, I am guessing it was Hot. Actually... I think I was at camp a few days later and telling someone about the run and their reaction was horror that I had gone for a run in that heat so...

July 13: 3.00 miles • 38:44 • 12:54 avg pace

Tuesday night with the club. Another new member joined us so two of us ran the 3 mile loop with her before dinner and drinks.

Skipped Thursday because I left my house & car keys at work (I work on an island) so I had to wait in the city for my mom to drive the spare set of keys to me. Didn't get home until late.

July 17: 3.20 miles • 34:26 • 10:46 avg pace

Saturday morning with the club. Jeez was I flying. The rest of the group ran 5 miles but I only had 3 on the schedule and had to get home and ready for a bridal shower. I did walk a little bit of an uphill when I split from them to stay on the 3 mile route while they turned onto the 5 mile route.

Plan:
  • 7/24 - 7 miles
  • 7/31 - 3 miles
  • 8/7 - 9 miles

I should be cleaning my condo... instead I'm writing this and heating up potato skins as my breakfast/lunch. The pinnacle of healthy eating, I am.

July 20: 4.01 miles • 49:12 • 12:17 avg pace
Tuesday night with the club. I started fast but then we realized one of the girls was falling behind so me and another hung back with her for a bit. Looking at my splits, the first two miles were 11:10 and 11:22, followed by my last two miles at 13:58 (lots of walking) and 12:37 (when she felt like she could run again)

July 24: 7.01 miles • 1:21:27 • 11:37 avg pace
Saturday morning with the club. This run felt great - good temps and excellent company. My goal was a 12:00 pace and I would say I crushed it. Splits because why not? 11:35, 11:05, 11:21, 11:23, 11:43, 12:57 (I didn't pause my watch when we stopped to cross the street and the walk signal also never came on), 11:15

Plan:

  • 7/31 - 3 miles
  • 8/7 - 9 miles
  • 8/14 - 4 miles
  • 8/21 - 6 miles
  • 8/28 - 10 miles (race)
  • 9/4 - 4 miles
  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13.1 miles (tentative race)
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles (toying with the idea of wine & dine...)
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles

I cleaned my condo today. Mostly. My bedroom and bathroom. Also I really wanted an ice coffee after my run so I went to Starbucks and got sugar in a plastic cup. Worth it.

Skipped Tuesday and Thursday this week after getting into the marathon. Tuesday I missed because it was thundering and lightning out and getting struck would be a total bummer. Thursday I missed because? Tired? Anyway, I ran this morning.

July 31: 3.16 miles • 34:00 • 10:45 avg pace
Ran
with the club this morning. Most were doing 5+ miles, but our route goes together for about 2.5 then splits. I took the 3 mile route on my own and they all headed off for their longer runs. I felt great! Negative splits, too. 11:23, 10:52, 10:15.

I signed up to be part of a relay team! It's a 26.2 x 1! Each of us taking one mile. I'm excited. I'm hoping to be around a 9:30 mile. Cross your fingers for me! They said that my mile time is about 30-40 seconds off my 5k pace, and looking at what I did today, that would be about 10:00, but I was talking the whole time and felt pretty good, so I know I can do faster. Plus, there is that 9:20 mile from a few weeks ago... Wish me luck!

Plan:

  • 8/7 - 9 miles
  • 8/14 - 4 miles (+ 1 mile race on 8/15)
  • 8/21 - 6 miles
  • 8/28 - 10 miles (race)
  • 9/4 - 4 miles
  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13.1 miles (tentative race)
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles (toying with the idea of wine & dine...)
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles

  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)

A delayed post this week! I ran on Saturday morning then spent the entire day sitting by the pool reading. Sunday I drove to the NH/Maine border to spend the day on the pond with my niece and nephew. Worth it.

August 3: 4.00 miles • 45:23 • 11:19 avg pace

Tuesday with the club. A hot run, took a couple short walk breaks with someone who is normally quite speedy but had some pains under her ribs.

August 7: 8.33 miles • (approx) 1:45:00 • (approx) 12:36
Saturday with the club! The plan said 9 miles but it was already 70 degrees at 7 am and getting hotter. So I cut it at 8. My watch crapped out on me, but the woman I ran with sent the splits from when I joined her (she did just over 4 before the rest of us got there) and we estimated the time at around 1:45:00. I was able to insert the route on the runkeeper website to get the more exact mileage.

Okay... so next up I have 4 miles followed by a 1 mile race on Sunday. I said that I could do my mile in 9:30 and I am SO nervous. It's part of a 26.2 mile relay and even though our club isn't competitive (we're an all female club competing with co-ed clubs) I still want to do well. Wish me luck (again!)

Plan:

  • 8/14 - 4 miles (+ 1 mile race on 8/15)
  • 8/21 - 6 miles
  • 8/28 - 10 miles (race)
  • 9/4 - 4 miles
  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13.1 miles (tentative race)
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles (toying with the idea of wine & dine...)
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles
  • 12/25 - 6 miles
  • 1/1 - 7 miles
  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)

This is going to be a short update because I skipped Tuesday and Thursday and my Saturday "long" run of 4 miles. (Tuesday: stomach ache due to coffee that didn't agree with me; Thursday: out sick from work with runny nose/sneezing/congestion and needed a PCR test; & Saturday: my cousin was in town and we decided to sleep in)

Today...
Today was my 1 mile race with my club! We are invited to a 26.2x1 relay with other clubs in the area. We each took a leg (some took 2 legs). I was leg #7 and my goal was 9:30. My time was... drum roll please! 8:48.

That's right, folks! A personal record set today! Let's goooooooo! Blew my goal out of the water. I was SO nervous before the race because, with temps in the 70's (high of 82 today) on a track in the full sun... I was worried that 9:30 wasn't attainable today. There's something about being able to turn a mile into 4 bite size pieces + the race atmosphere + having people cheer you on that makes the mile go by fast. And I felt fast while I was running, but I didn't want to get my hopes up!

I actually have the rough splits for each lap, too! Ellen, teammate/friend/speedster, told me to "go fast for the first lap then settle into it" and I think I did that! Then ended strong with a sprint to the hand off area. I felt good, too. Like I maybe could have gone a little faster. This was a pretty high effort but not all out.

Splits:
Lap 1:
1:50
Lap 2: 2:20
Lap 3: 2:29
Lap 4: 2:09

Plan:

  • 8/21 - 6 miles
  • 8/28 - 10 miles (race)
  • 9/4 - 4 miles
  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13.1 miles (tentative race)
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles (toying with the idea of wine & dine...)
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles
  • 12/25 - 6 miles
  • 1/1 - 7 miles
  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)

I last posted on... August 15 regarding my one mile race... and it's now two weeks later. Ok. Now I know what I'm doing!

August 17: 4.00 miles • 47:04 • 11:45 avg pace
Tuesday with the club! Honestly... not a lot to share? I don't remember much? Maybe it was really hot and humid?

August 25: Track Week 1
Warm up: 1 mile • 13:14
2 400s: 1:55 & 2:13
1 mile trial: 10:41

It was REALLY hot on the first day of track. Like... 90's and humid AF. But my coach knows that I did an 8:48 mile two weeks ago at the relay because she was there, so I wrote down both times and we're using the faster time as my fitness in ideal conditions.

My next post will be the 10 mile race from this weekend! I didn't do any other running because a friend was visiting from LA, just those two. I'm hoping that once I get settled into my new schedule, I'll be able to manage a Tuesday night run, a Thursday morning run, and my weekend long runs as outlined below through January!

Plan:

  • 9/4 - 4 miles
  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13 miles
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles
  • 12/25 - 6 miles
  • 1/1 - 7 miles
  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)

Millennium Running Allen Mello 10 Miler Race Recap

So I actually ran this race last year, too! Except it was a time trial start format (1 person every 10 seconds). This year... we're back to a mass start! This was the most normal race I've done since Princess Weekend in 2020. It was really nice to be back.

This was also my first normal race since joining the club! It was awesome to see the women I run with at the race and to take photos and chat. We had two ladies cheering us on and taking photos, too! That might have been my favorite part. Seeing Toshie at the top of a super big hill with her cowbell and smile and camera. Then at the finish I was cheered on by those who were done! I love being part of a club. I did miss out on some of it since I was running with two other friends, but next time I'll spend more time with the club and start with them and try to keep up with some of them.

Anyway... race time. Another big difference this year is that the course was reversed. Well, technically it was back to the normal route since it was the 2020 course that was opposite. Let's take a look at the elevation maps for fun...

This is the map for 2020. Big hills at the start, little ones at the end.

And this is the chart for 2021. The opposite (duh). Little hills at the beginning and then MASSIVE hills in the middle and end. Those downhills... Woof. My friends basically sprinted down them and I swear I lost all control of my body trying to stay with them down the hill.

Speaking of... let's see my splits...

Mile 1: 12:04
Mile 2: 12:10
Mile 3: 11:59
Mile 4: 12:28
Mile 5: 12:48
Mile 6: 12:18
Mile 7: 12:03
Mile 8: 11:58
Mile 9: 12:10
Mile 10: 9:36

I stuck with my friends for the entire race up until the last two miles when I decided to venture out on my own. I wanted to race the last 3 miles, but I saw the hill at mile 7 and laughed and changed my mind. Then I got to the flat part of mile 8 and thought... maybe now I'll race. Another hill. Yeah right. So I just took that downhill at mile 9 and used it to fly into the end. Worth it because I finished about a minute faster than last year. Just think what I could have done if I had pushed it a bit more on the earlier miles! I had more in me - felt like I could run another 3 at the end.

And some photos...

Disney Marathon 2022 Training Journal

I was holding off on writing this because I was going to run today... but I didn't. I stayed at my college roommate's parent's beach house last night unexpectedly and didn't have running shoes, a two hour drive later and I just... didn't run. Anyway... Lots to break down though from this week!

But first... THOSE MEDALS ARE SO PRETTY! 😍

August 31: 4.00 miles • 45:34 • 11:24 avg pace
Tuesday with the club! The usual shindig.

September 3: Track Week 2

So... I missed the track workout because I had a volunteer commitment. My plan was to either do it early Wednesday or sometime Thursday, but between some rain and my anxiety around finding a track to use, I didn't get out there until early Friday.
Warm up: .56 mile • 6:06

4x800 with 2 minute rest in between: 2.09 miles • 19:13 • 9:10 avg pace
4x400 with 2 minute rest in between: 1.07 miles • 9:06
4x200 with active recovery back to start in between: .93 miles • 9:40
Cool Down: .54
mile • 7:00

I went to the track at my hometown high school. The calendar didn't have any games or practices on it, but there was a soccer team there? I think it might have been the middle school league. I was going to turn around and give up on this workout, but I saw a father-son duo out there so I decided that my running wouldn't be disruptive to the practice. The morning seemed like it was going to be relatively cool, but it got real warm after the warmup. I think I can get a rough idea of my laps through my app...

My goals for the 800s were about 5:00 for each one (5k pace - I haven't achieved a sub 30:00 5k yet, but I'm close). Then the 400s were supposed to be 5k-20s, so I was aiming for about 2:10-2:20 per lap... then 200s were a full sprint. Again... these are rough splits.

4x800 splits: 4:43 • 4:50 • 4:46 • 5:06
4x400 splits: 2:12 • 2:14 • 2:21 • 2:18
4x200 splits: :51 • 1:11 • 1:12 • 1:05

Plan:

  • 9/11 - 13 miles
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13 miles
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles
  • 12/25 - 6 miles
  • 1/1 - 7 miles
  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)

Hello good morning I ran 11 miles this morning and I need a nap. Anyway, let's review the week before I knock out for an hour.

September 7: 4.01 miles • 46:28 • 11:35 avg pace

Tuesday with the club! Followed by a HUUUUUGE amount of pasta.

September 8: Track Week 3
I was back with the group for track this week! It's so much nicer doing this workout with the group. And the workout was a ladder! There was a 2 minute rest in between each set. Those training for a marathon in the fall had to go back up the ladder, I was able to be done after the 200 but decided to do one more 400.
Warm up: 1.02 mile • 13:20

For some reason, these are a little bit/a lot off, so I'll give the rough time according to my app first, then what my coach tracked.
1 mile
: 9:43 // 10:19 (the first time is my GPS, the second is my coach's stop watch and I don't know why there's such a discrepancy but her watch was correct, I hit the mile long before the finish line)
800: 4:59

400: 1:58
200: :51 (This was actually under 50 seconds, closer to about 46 seconds. I'll explain in a minute.)
400: 2:00
Cool Down: one lap walked, not tracked

Okay, I said I would explain the 200. One of the women I run with is like, really fast. Like, her husband is a track coach, she lead us through our drills and is clearly very knowledgeable. I watched her run other laps and she. is. fast. Anyway, she asked if I wanted to "draft" her for my 200 (I had to ask what this means, so if you're like me, it meant running right behind her because it would make me faster without as much effort) and I was like, sure! She was doing a 400 so I would just stop at the 200 mark. She asked my goal and my coach was like "60 seconds?" and I was like "how about 50?"

Anyway, when we started I literally felt like I was going so fast that I was going to run into her, so on the straightaway I moved into lane 2 and passed her and hit the 200 in about 45-ish seconds. Basically, I can be REALLY fast for a VERY SHORT distance. But that's it. This speed DOES NOT translate to my distance running.

September 12: 11 miles • 2:14:08 • 12:11 avg pace
The first 3 miles felt not great. Miles 4 through 10 felt good. Mile 11 was brutal and I was faster walking than running. But it's done. The one thing that was nice is that my first 10 miles were faster than the race a few weeks ago, coming in at 1:58:48. And then mile 11. God these splits are hilarious. All in the 11s & 12s... (ignore mile 8) then mile 11 comes in at a WHOPPING 15:17.

Plan:
  • 9/18 - 6 miles
  • 9/25 - 13 miles
  • 10/2 - 4 miles
  • 10/10 - 13 miles
  • 10/16 - 6 miles
  • 10/23 - 15 miles
  • 10/30 - 4 miles
  • 11/6 - 17 miles
  • 11/13 - 5 miles
  • 11/20 - 20 miles
  • 11/27 - 7 miles
  • 12/4 - 23 miles
  • 12/11 - 7 miles
  • 12/18 - 26 miles
  • 12/25 - 6 miles
  • 1/1 - 7 miles
  • 1/9 - 26.2 miles (race)
