Thats interesting. Was it part of the deal that you get 115 days or was it something specific he had worked out with them?

i ran into this issue this quarter. I wanted to max out on my freedom card but i realize my CI+ overlaps the only few ways i know how to max it out. So i stopped wanting to max it out now. Im only half way done on my CF, i may just do the apple pay P2P or just forget about it.

ive never booked BA but i thought its the end city that matters and not the stopover. i could be wrong. There was an article about it

im not sure if BA would hold the flight for you, but you can stall for time and transfer points to BA as your on the phone with them. im sure they would hold while you do so. The transfer should be instant.

He didn't work it out with them. I just saw a lot of chatter that people were getting over 90 days so he sm'ed them and confirmed the 115 days. I don't know if it just SW that does this, or if other Chase cards receive the same.

    ETA: from DoC
In fact, Chase unofficially gives 115 days to meet the minimum spend requirement. It’s a bit risky to rely on that, though, since the terms state 3 months. Once you have the cards, you can Message the bank to find out the exact date you have to meet the spend requirement.

I told my friend to make sure he kept screen shots of the chase messages.

Make sure you meet the minimum spend a few days before your statement closes, or your bonus points won’t post until the next statement.

And I’m sorry about your mom, glad you still have your Dad and you can help him see the world.

I jumped on the bandwagon and applied for the SPG bus(used a helpful link) after realizing how quickly I was meeting my CIP spend! So interesting how AMEX gives instant approval and Chase is a drawn out process! I have car insurance and home owners insurance bills coming within the next 3 months, that will help with the MSR.
I pulled the trigger on paying a new bill with Plastiq. I'm excited to see if it codes as 3x UR. All of the math earlier today convinced me that the fees were worth it. I wish my CIP credit line was bigger to pay taxes with Plastiq.

I’m so sorry about your mom. Cancer does suck. Lost my dad to it 4 1/2 years ago. We had planned a trip to WDW with my parents and kids and grandkids for my parents 50th anniversary. My dad was diagnosed terminal about 2 months before we were supposed to go. I replanned the trip the following year so at least my mom got to go with the grandkids.

Thanks @Albort for the article,I'm gonna read that now- what I'm wondering is if I can book that Iberia flight I see available, but it's not showing on the BA site..... just shows some flights with stopovers, and the Iberia flight is direct. Thanks for any advice Maybe @calypso726 knows BA? I can't remember what points they've used to fly all over the world.....

your best bet is to either call and ask, and/or look it up on expertflyers.
i had a friend that had to call and ask and they did find some routes available for her to fly on with awards.

I booked an AA flight through the Chase UR portal. It is not showing up in my AA account. Does it take some time to show? I only used UR to book AA once before and I don't remember doing anything to have it appear in AA. Do I have to do something to link it?

Ok guys, called Chase Travel and Cruise tonight to book my Disney vacation (which turned out to be only a room... lol). Just want to share my data point on how this went. I've been checking the Disney website and decided to book a Boardwalk Villa Studio for one night for Nov. 8-9. I also wanted to purchase one day tickets to HS for DH and I. The room was showing a rack rate of $481 for the night on Disney's website.

I called and dialed the extension for Melissa at Chase but I didn't get her (perhaps she wasn't working, it was 7:15 pm EST when I called). I spoke with Sydney, who was very nice. She noted that I did not have any UR points on my card but said that was fine and I could pay in cash. I had initially provided the number for our new CIP card that we are working on the MSR on, so no UR points on that yet, which is fine because I wanted to pay cash. She quickly found the room I was interested in and secured that. I then told her that I wanted to book one day tickets. I was interested to see if she could do this for me since it's not possible to book one day tickets as part of a package on the Disney website. Sure enough, she was not able to and said she would have to book me two day tickets or I would have to purchase them separately. She did not advise me that there was any option to book one day tickets through Chase Travel and Cruise, and it doesn't look like you can through the online travel portal, so I suppose I will just buy them later through Disney and link them to my MDE.

I did ask her if I would be able to call back to Chase and have them apply a discount to the room rate if one came out later this summer. She said that Chase could modify or cancel Disney reservations just like Disney itself could, and that she would be able to apply any discounts for me when they came out. Looks like the room only discounts usually come out in early July, so I'll be reporting back then with more info. I specifically booked dates during our trip where it looked like I would be eligible for the discount. If not, I'll be rebooking on different dates or at a different hotel.

Since she couldn't book my tickets but I wanted to go ahead and lock down a Boardwalk Villa room for us, I went ahead and told her to charge my CIP for the full amount of the room. One thing I did not ask is if I HAD to use a Chase credit card to book, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say you need to. When it was time to take my credit card number she said "I'm ready to take your Chase-branded credit card number whenever you're ready."

Before we got off the phone, I asked her a couple questions about booking packages for next year once the dates were available since I'm planning to book either two or three rooms to be split between six adults for a week. She said that Chase can accept Disney gift cards to pay down the balance of your package throughout the payment period that Disney gives you. I asked her if I could put a deposit on a package with either points or cash and then pay down the balance with points periodically before my trip. She informed me that Chase allows a one-time use of UR points on travel packages and that ALL UR POINTS YOU WANT TO USE FOR YOUR TRIP MUST BE USED UPFRONT WHEN PAYING. The remainder must be paid in cash/with a Disney gift card. Her statement indicated to me that this was not just a Disney rule, but applied to any travel package booked with Travel and Cruise.

I will say that while I don't think Sydney was any particular Disney expert, she did sound knowledgeable and confident about Chase's policies regarding use of UR and payments on packages. She was able to answer right off the bat about Disney gift cards and paying with UR points. She specifically encouraged me to use up my total balance of UR points on my package next year if I was hoping to get the most value out of them.

So, I hope this is helpful to some of you! I know it's not the most thorough since I didn't book with URs or with a CSR, but it helped me make some decisions for how I'm going forward with churning this year. Since a WDW trip for 6 people with multiple rooms will obviously be expensive, I will need all the UR points I can get. I was thinking about going for the SPG Biz, but I would now rather double dip DH on CSR/CSP as soon as we finish MSR on his CIP, and then have him refer me to CIP myself. Getting a CIP during this summer will make me 4/12 (if Marriott Biz counts), but I think I might just roll the dice. I don't MS, and I consistently charge a decent amount on each of my Chase cards and don't sock drawer them so I think I could effectively plead my case if Chase came after me.

Anyways, there you go. Hope this helps someone!

ETA: Just linked my reservation on MDE. No issues with that and everything is correct. I do see where MDE says that if I need to make any changes to my reservation that I need to contact my original travel agent.

Just picked DH up from the airport. Apparently someone asked him how he got his priority pass... he told them his wife :rotfl:

On the other hand AMEX called him today about his SPG biz card app...

@snugglebug you posted earlier but just from today it is so long I can’t find your quote! But you asked about between Freedom and Freedom Unlimited. I have both. It depends on your spending habits. If the category for the Freedom are not great I don’t spend anything. I.e. I didn’t spend anything last fall (don’t shop at Walmart or department stores). I did however get on board with mobile payment so have maxed out on Apple Wallet this quarter. But meanwhile I spend a lot at Costco. If I am working on a minimum spend with Amex that Costco money can’t be used and so at that point I put a lot on the FU. 1.5 UR is a lot better than just 1 point.

At any rate I think the FU is a decent card to have especially since it is no fee. If you are okay taking a 5/24 spot it is also nice because it is a low minimum spend to meet the bonus. My husband doesn’t have either one right now. If I decide to burn a spot and get him one I would get the FU. All around card easier since he doesn’t have to worry about categories...not that he worries...but that way it won’t bug me when he uses the “wrong card.”

I can’t believe this deal hasn’t been posted in this thread! Finally, another use for Chase Pay: https://slickdeals.net/f/11367499-starbucks-rewards-members-make-a-purchase-w-chase-pay-get-300-stars-valid-in-store-only

Make a purchase at Starbucks with Chase Pay, get 300 Stars. That’s good enough for 2 free drinks or food items. Offer expires 3/19/18.

Log into Chase Pay, and you should see a banner with the Starbucks offer. Click on it, and it’ll prompt you to link your Starbucks account with Chase Pay. Log into your Starbucks account to complete the link. You’ll be taken back to Chase Pay where you can select the card you want to use and click “Pay.” Preferably you pick CSR for 3x on dining or Freedom for 5x on mobile payments. Chase Pay will generate a QR code that you point up to the scanners next to the registers. Done!

I just checked the DVC website and they are showing all the points studios sold out for that night. It's still almost a month before the 7 month window opens. Not sure if that cash room will come up for a discount since its near the end of food and wine festival. I will be there at BWV that week as well. You definitely did well to book it early. You might also watch for discounted rooms at Boardwalk Inn. Sometimes its easier to get a discount there. In any case, enjoy BWV! I've owned there since 2000 and usually book there every November.

I saw it on Doctor of Credit a little bit ago but he said it was targeted?!? I tried to get it to work but it seems to be freezing up. For 300 points though I will persevere...

That's so funny, because I actually checked the Disney website right after I booked and they were still showing availability for the Studio at BWV for $481! We have some play in both dates and where we're willing to change, so I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for all available discounts. Looking at the historical dates I knew I wouldn't be able to get the free dining discount applied so I'm just going to take whatever I can get for a room discount. I think the 8th-9th will be my best bet for having a room discount applied, but we could also stay the 12-13 too.

It's funny, the only reason I actually booked BWV is because the rack rate for the studio was cheaper than just booking a room at BWI! If anything comes up cheaper at BWI, Yacht Club, or Beach Club though, I will be changing to that. I am (very!) willing to stay at any of those hotels and just want to be close to HS. I'm jealous that you own there!

I want to book a 2 bedroom villa at the Grand Californian in late July for 5 nights. Any advice on how to get the most points for this? I know I have to rent points, so I am in contact with the DVC Store to see if available. Should I use my CSR to get the most points?

I'm completely new to DVC point rental.

    TIA!
