Hall of president solution

Yeah sorry ... I'm one of those "not into the undead" guys. We all have our faults! :)

Have you ever liked it or was it something you've always hated? Any parts that you like of it?

We get this...

IIRC, disparaging remarks about followers of one politician or party (or in this case, non-followers) is why we can no longer discuss such things here.

And 5 messages later we get this...

They'll get backlash from Trump supporters no matter what they do. Unless the whole show is dedicated to his greatness they will pitch a fit say it's a liberal snowflake conspiracy.

LOL - RobinB if you know the powerball numbers for this weekend, I would appreciate a heads-up! :)

Or how about we just leave a classic Disney attraction alone? Seriously, are we just going to start changing things because some millennial snowflakes pitch a fit over someone they didnt like winning an election?

There was hatred and division from liberals when George W Bush won in 2000. There was hatred and division from conservatives when Barack Obama won in 2008. Now we’ve come full circle again with President Trump. He’s the president...get over it....accept it...open up Hall of Presidents again.

Four words. Pirates of the Caribbean.

Disney cares not about "classic" they care about moving forward in what is best for the parks and keeping attacks/drama from public to a minimum. If they think the Redhead was divisive (and I never saw anyone throw shoes at the pirates) enough to change a "classic ride" they will have no issue with changing this attraction to something more palatable. Honestly look at the lines for Pirate yet they are still changing it .... guests going in to HOP can get their own rows so not like they are concerned about the "fans".

Mr. Toad, Maelstrom, 20,000 Leagues ... classics ... gone.

I think what they would have to do is announce in advance that the current president (current at whatever time it is announce that is) will be the last current president to speak and after the next election a change will be made to only past presidents speaking (just Lincoln, Lincoln and Washington, etc). Doing it after the election looks, rightly or wrongly, like a slight of the sitting president. That will always annoy roughly half of the voting population.

It's a private company, theme park ... they don't have to announce anything. They can do whatever they want. And honestly they can justify it closing very easily .... no one ever goes inside. It's a fancy rain shelter/nap room.

disclaimer; let me clarify my statement, "intended to be" is only my opinion on what I believe the original imagineers had in mind. I don't know. I'm just assuming the original Disney imagineers kinda knew this attraction would be ever evolving and changing with each new president elected. as for the current president speaking, I don't want this guy to ruin it for future (or past) presidents, let him talk.
unfortunately this is the kind of crap we have to deal with these days.

I think what the original imagineers intended is exactly what they built ........ and no current Presidents speaking. Disney can easily go back to it's "classic" roots, solving lots of issues.

Honestly I wish the attraction could stay the way it is for tradition sake, but unfortunately people are not able to be reasonable regarding politics. This goes for both sides of the political coin. I go to Disney World to get away from the real world and have a fun time, not to listen to people argue about politics. Because of this I will most likely not visit the attraction even if it does remain the same as I will be leery of what might happen between guests.

And this is why I have ALWAYS said HOP does not belong in the Magic Kingdom, the biggest fantasy park of them all. I don't want a history lesson and seems most don't since the attraction is severely underused. This is valuable real estate ... the restaurant would be a cash cow.

I feel the need to jump in here and say the same thing I did in another thread: I don't want Liberty Square turned into Haunted Mansionland. Mostly because I don't like the Haunted Mansion so I hate to see more real estate used for it. 2ndly because I hate to see an attraction turn into a restaurant that I'll never get into even if I wanted to!

Aside from the blasphemy :hmghost:

... there are plenty of attractions many don't like. I hate Jungle Cruise, I hate they built a restaurant with that stupid theme when it could have been an awesome "jungle decor" character restaurant. I wanted them to rotate Peter Pan, Jungle Book, Tarzan, Pirates ... but no we have Jungle Cruise with overprice fish heads. But hey, it's an easy to get ADR. If they did it my way they would be making too much money. The rest of the area is a boring treehouse, a kiddie Aladdin ride and squeaky birds singing. The only good ride is Pirates, and there is no good eating. Honestly if they kept the outside the same ........... there would be virtually no change to Liberty Square other than Disney making LOTS of money. The mostly empty attraction sits on valuable real estate.

I don't find HoP to be a history lesson. It is just a representation of every single president the country has had. You don't really learn about each presidency or anything. Sure its historical in the fact that every president is there but not much more than that. HoP originated from something classic, Great moments with Lincoln in DLR. Walt seemed to love the office of the presidency and in the old colonial town that is Liberty Square this works perfectly. Yes people love HM but we don't know it would be cash cow, nor do I believe thematically a HM restaurant should go in this building.

Skipper Canteen is connected to Jungle Cruise but it is also deeply connected to S.E.A. Society of Explorers and Adventurers which is such more than Jungle Cruise. Again I don't see how thematically a HM works in an unchanged HoP building. This is a theme park not an amusement park there has to be some sort of theme.

Mr. Toad, Maelstrom, 20,000 Leagues ... classics ... gone.

Classics which all left for major IPs thanks to the Iger regime.

What I'm trying to get at is that if you removed all of the rides/attractions in Adventureland and just made them all into Pirates of the Caribbeanland attractions and restaurants, there would be no interest or variety in the entire land. I don't care quite honestly if they get rid of HOP ... just put another attraction in its place that isn't HM-related because then you have created something one dimensional. I love Soarin' but I don't want Soarin' land and a Soarin' restaurant and a Soarin' dark water ride.

I totally agree, and said something along those lines when this topic came up here before, a few months ago.

The challenge for Disney is that not everyone will behave such as you. There are already reports of people actively Booing the Obama animatronic and I think it is safe to say things are even more heated now within our country

As a point of example, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) held their Summerslam event in Brooklyn this past August and there were protestors outside because the WWE has Trump in their Hall of Fame ... if people were doing that I can see Disney being worried about what people would / will do when the HoP reopens with Trump in it. Could protestors line up outside the attraction, linking arms to prevent people from going in? Would they want a scene like that?
Sadly true, Phil. Very astutely observed, and posted.

Ugggh....makes me think of an expanded HoA that mandates neutral tones, flowers that aren't "vibrant" and a landscape that "appeals to the masses". Where are the judges?

Hope this doesn't get into a weird place on the disboards, but from a religious perspective I don't like to be involved with undead, ghosts, and whatnot.

Hmm.. interesting. Hey whatever floats your boat.

"millennial snowflakes" ? Oh please ... :rolleyes1

The sentiment that Disney does not want to deal with a political mess anymore is most realistic. Like has been said, people are at Disney to escape the real world. Let's take it that some will continue to boo Obama and now some would boo Trump. Put them in a room together with boos from different people and you've got a new Disney fireworks show.

That said, no one has really brought up Bob Iger. He does not appear to be a Trump fan (subtle digs) and to my knowledge has not denied rumors that he is considering running for president in 2020 against a sitting President Trump. We don't really know what other motives higher ups have. This is obviously a conspiracy theory, but it is a fun one.

For those who've said they attended HoP and had others booing or hollering or whatever....my question is what did you do? What did the CM do? What if all of us who do not approve of the disruption stood up against it face to face?

I've never actually visited and really wanted to this year but it looks like it's not going to happen which really frustrates me. I love America and its history. I don't like all the presidents but I respect them because they were the presidents. Personally, if I am able to visit the HoP and hear anyone disrupting and disrespecting, I'm happy to confront them and ask them kindly to be quiet. I won't let my children see me sit by idly and allow such disrespect.

So my two cents for what it's worth: open the attraction back up and see what happens. Maybe there are enough good and bold people out there to shut up the rude ones. And maybe Disney could step up and kick out the disrupters. If the CM make it clear at the beginning of the attraction (again, I've never seen it so I don't know exactly how that would work but...) that anyone who disrupts the show will be escorted out of the park then MAYBE just MAYBE people won't. Who wants to pay over $100 for a park ticket just to be forced to leave because they can't keep their mouth shut? We won't know until they try. So open it up and let those of us who DO care about it get a chance to enjoy it.
