Explorers Hotel FAQ & Information Thread

Hi all!

Looking into this hotel. Someone mentioned the stroll back being pleasant.

Which way is it? Have stayed at Cheyenne and walked back to there every day. Is it further along?

Yes it is further than Cheyenne. You really need to go to Santa Fe (same direction as Cheyenne but across the river) Then go out of main entrance of Santa Fe near the Esso station, cross the main rd and walk a bit further on. Explorers is the first hotel you come to in the block of 4.
I think its quite a distance to walk especially after a day in the parks

Thanks, tempted to stick with Cheyenne. There's not many places I can run around pretending to be a cowgirl after all :rotfl:

The advantage of Explorers over Cheyenne is the swimming pool. The advantage of Cheyenne is that you will get EMH which you dont get at Explorers unless you have a dream AP.
You could still go to Cheyenne to be a Cowgirl if you wanted - its Disney remember.

We just got back from our first offsite trip, to the Explorers, on Wednesday this week.

This hotel is lovely - the public areas are clean and spacious. The swimming pool area is amazing - big enough to swim in, and one whole area of the pool is now a pirate ship water play centre. My DD absolutely loved this, and the play ship in the main atrium.
Our room for 4 was slightly larger than comparable rooms at the Santa Fe or Cheyenne hotels, with bathroom (and lovely powerful shower) and separate toilet. Hairdryer, TV, kettle and hot drinks fixings all included at no extra charge. There is also a safe in the room.

The breakfast buffet is well organised, even with many guests. The food is laid out in the main restaurant, drinks are in a separate area, and you can take your breakfast in the atrium as well as in the main restaurant (much less hectic in the atrium). The fresh fruit at breakfast was yummy - oranges, melon, watermelon, and pineapple.
We had a pizza from Marcos in the atrium on our first evening - only 10 euros, and the pizza was very tasty, and big enough for us 2. Drinks are expensive in the hotel though - soft drinks cans are 3 euros each, either at the bar or in the vending machines.

Check-in was smooth, and was check-out. Staff all friendly and helpful.

Because of the pool and Marcos mainly, the Explorers is now DD's absolute favourite hotel out of the 3 we have visited at DLRP (the others being the Santa Fe and Cheyenne).

With this being an offsite hotel, I found I had to be more aware of the time, as the shuttle buses run every 20 minutes. We missed one by only a couple of minutes on our first morning, and so waiting for the next one seemed to take eternity (and we missed an extra 20 minutes EMH).

This hotel caters for large tour groups, and I have never seen so many school groups in the parks as on this trip - there were loads of them. There were at least 3 such groups at the Explorers while we were there, and unfortunately, our room was between 2 of them. Our first night, we had one room banging about and running in the corridor until after 11.30pm, and the next night, we had the other side banging about and shouting out the windows til roughly the same time. I had to phone reception on our 2nd night about the noise, they were great, they contacted the lead of the group, and shortly afterwards, there was no more noise from the window-shouters.

I know the Explorers is not to blame for my sleepless nights, as I have experienced something similar (although not on the same scale or quite so late) in the Cheyenne. Its a shame in a way that the Explorers has interconnecting door in all its rooms, as noise obviously travels much louder through a door than through a wall.

I did enjoy our stay at the Explorers, and would stay there again (but I wouldn't schedule my stay there for the beginning of June again, as that appears to be school trip season!)

Here are a couple of pictures of the pirate pool play ship -

Explorers sounds a good hotel, but that noise would put me off completely. I wonder if avoiding school groups is possible? June might be the season in the UK but it might be any time from another country......
However much you like children being among 2 school groups is NOT a good thing!;)

Does anyone know what time they serve breakfast to here?

We are staying here for 2 nights before then going onto S Lodge and are wondering on the Monday-the day we check out of here- whether to go into the park early for an hrs EMH (we have dream passes which will give us this) then go to S Lodge to check in and get meal vouchers etc and breakfast slots and then go back to Explorers for a late breakfast and to check out.

I've still got my Explorers hotel brochure from my June trip - it says breakfast is served from 7am to 10.30am.

We stayed in the Explorers June 2007 and we were really impressed, we had a crew room as there were 6 of us in total and it was really spacious and the little extras like the kettle etc were a bonus in comparison to our usual choice the Hotel Cheyenne ... I even prefer the breakfast buffet at the Explorers, from our two recent visits there appeared to be more choice but I have to admit I love seeing the little ponies outside the Cheyenne and the wait for the bus at the Explorers always seems so much longer when you're just desperate to get to the park !

Thanks Elaine- that could be a possibility to do that then. We could have a leisurely breakfast, move the car to S Lodge then wander back into the park or take an hour or so out for a swim at S Lodge before going back in.

There again once we are in the park it might be hard to force ourselves out again so soon

No chance you could scan and post this brochure?

I know it's maybe a lot to be asking for, but I am staying at Explorers next month for my first visit to Disneyland ever, and would love to get as much info as possible in advance.

as there is nothing recent on this hotel i just thought id say how much we loved it. we read alot of bad rewiews before going and we were abit nervous. our kids loved the play area and we had so much fun in the pool. which was really nice as one of the days there was an hour wait on rides in the park so we came back and played in the hotel for a bit.

they have a few more things at breakfast now including fried potatoes and bacon. there was loads of fruit, yogurts, breads, coissants, cheese ham etc.

our room was very nice and well maintaned and the beds were really comfy. also they have english channels inc citv, cbeebies, ch5, itv and bbc3.

there is nothing we didnt like about this hotel and i dont know why it has recieved bad reviews on other websites

We went a couple of years ago - the only down side was the pool was closed for cleaning at the time but the girls had a great time playing on the ship. We had the extra bunk beds in the separate room (which was a godsend for getting tired girls off to sleep!!) - and there were only 4 of us so loads of room! Great hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for the reviews. :goodvibes
