Epcot Wedding, NON-Disney Photographer ... What do we think of this?

You only quoted the bottom part of my post, so I'm not sure if you read the entire thing, or if you just left it out because it didn't fit with what you had to say.... Posted:

Sure, Disney has a right as a company to do what they want, but they can't set rules and ask 99% of their customers (brides) to follow rules and then let another customer (bride) do something different and not expect the others to question it. I hardly think that a bride calling their coordinator and asking what's going on as inappropriate.

There is nothing wrong with questioning a company’s choices. It doesn't mean that anything is going to change, but you can try. If I had my heart set on something and was told no, only to find that someone else was getting it I'd call and ask what was going on. I hardly doubt that any bride here called their coordinator and whined about this with them... I'm pretty sure that they asked for answers though, which they are entitled to. THIS is a message board. The whole purpose of it is for people to 'talk' about what is going on in their lives, plans, etc..... If you can't 'whine' here, where can you whine?

Did you read this thread? It wasn't people whining. It was people thinking somehow they are ENTITLED to an explanation. It's rather silly actually.

I believe I quite frankly don't need your permission to post pictures ;) Nor do I care to which boards you think I belong to.

Um ... I wasn't giving you or NOT giving you "permission". I simply said I did not want to or care to see your pictures. Still don't.

And frankly, if having a picture taken outside Boardwalk is what makes you think you have the God-given right to just drop in and be a royal beyotch to the community here, well, then I guess that's all the ammo you need. ;) Talk about an entitlement mentality!

Sheesh, where are the moderators? :rolleyes1

I've actually gotten multiple PMs from other brides who were thinking exactly what I said LOL

What are the moderators going to do? I have not broken any rules.

Personal attacks are against the rules. And coming to a thread and saying everyone is jealous and entitled could certainly be considered an attack on everyone who feels upset by what happened. Its fine to think that what happened is okay if that's how you feel, but there's no need for name calling IMHO

Okay we'll see.

On that note, I am headed to put my kids to bed...good night!:teeth:

This is getting a bit to catty ….. With that being said we are all entitled to have an opinion. I am one of those brides who is affected by this rule as my reception is in the Animal Kingdom. I knew this rule when I signed on the dotted line therefore I am not upset by what another was able to negotiate into their contract. I feel for the bride who is now in a very awkward situation and if I was this bride I would not come forward for fear of being attacked, as this is an emotional issue for so many.

Sorry a little off topic for this thread but I was curious to know where in Animal Kingdom you are having your wedding? :goodvibes We are having our reception in Animal Kingdom as well at The Belvedere. I am just being nosey to see if its in the same place. :)

As a photographer here in the local area, I absolutely follow all the rules. However, had I not found these boards and read the rules here, I would have no idea. So if a bride contacted me and contracted me for an in-park wedding, unless she told me, I wouldn't have known. I do ask all my brides about photography restrictions, but some don't read what they sign or don't care. As I never see the contracts with the venues, I can only know what they tell us.

Having a hired photog in-park isn't allowed for Memories, Wishes, or Escape. What *is* allowed is an outside photog in other areas, and then attending the guest as a reception, unpaid. Disney doesn't restrict the lens length or amount of equipment a guest can bring in, and if you are truly not being paid but taking photos, then they have a hard time restricting that.

Additionally, I have assisted at Disney as an outside photog for conventions and know they escort outside photogs into the park for those events (Living Seas Salon in 2010, I can't remember where this year). And this was allowed for this event.

Lastly, I'm fairly sure Couture collections are allowed outside photographers-that's been a rumor around town for awhile. This wedding looks in that price range to me. Some people spending $100k or more on a wedding may not be satisfied with Disney's quality, and Disney itself may not be able to offer what those clients want. Spending 100k or more would probably necessitate a custom contract and not a package deal such as with Escape, Wishes, etc, so open to more negotiation about outside vendors. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thought the Arndts have shot couture weddings in-park.

Blah blah blah

The bride did not come on this board and say, "everyone look at my wedding! i had a theme park event and and outside photographer!" her pics were posted on a blog and someone happened to notice that some were in the rotunda.

self entitlement runs rampant here.

Seriously? Did you just say that? I would love to see your wedding pictures.
Disney brides are usually sweet and supportive of each other.
That's the way we do things here.

Posts like these with all this outrage are the reason why DFTW hates this board. Seriously, they can't do anything special for anyone without having 12 calls from other jealous brides wondering why they can't have the same thing.

Just wow.

Oh all this is so sad isn't it? This coupled with the nastiness I have experienced from the monorail lady, just makes me want to cry!!! We are all friendly and supportive on this board, and people who are infrequent posters on it coming in and being downright mean is so upsetting!!!

A lot of new posters... Who think it's okay to break the rules and question why people would get upset... Makes you wonder, doesn't it?... :scratchin

That sounds like a fairly reasonable explanation to me, they may well have a custom contract with amended specifications for Couture weddings.

Also, a few people have mentioned that everyone should get the same, but really, don't Disney treat people differently all the time? When we see people getting something different or a little bit extra, it's usually called pixiedust. It's just one of those things, this particular wedding got something that most people don't. It isn't going to change my wedding, I already have my expectations, so I don't have an issue with it. YMMV.

Some people spending $100k or more on a wedding may not be satisfied with Disney's quality, and Disney itself may not be able to offer what those clients want.

And some people spending a LOT less than $100K or more may ALSO not be satisfied with Disney's quality, and Disney may not be able to offer what THOSE clients want. In fact, that is the case here over and over, and that's why people are so annoyed! You don't have to be rolling in the dough to want and deserve nice wedding photos and to want and deserve a choice in WHO takes them rather than having that choice made for you (especially when Disney photography is so freaking overpriced). Please don't just assume that someone spending less has lower standards!

That being said, I totally see your point about couture weddings and custom contracts, however, just because a bride can't afford something like that doesn't mean that she should be forced to accept the often-crappy pictures that Disney puts out (and with hardly an apology on their part and very little recourse for the couple).

I guess what it all comes down to is money talks. Period.

This is so very true about most everything in life...

I'm a lurker on here (before I get accused of trolling and have been lurking for years), I wanted my 5 year vr at disney but I want a certain outside photographer so I continue to watch and dream about that day and I won't budge so until that photographer is allowed (if ever) back in the parks I won't book it. Sadly 5 years is 2 months away so it won't be a 5 year vr but I'll continue waiting... or maybe I'll book that photographer and go to the beach.

Don't the couture receptions take place in ballrooms and have to have the wall draping? Also, the Arndts used to work for Disney photography and did specialize in couture weddings while they were there. However, since the ones that I've seen take place in the ballrooms (usually at the Contemporary) any outside photographer could shoot those.
