Do we really need an underwater camera?

I thought it was worth having. We did the Stingrays at Castaway and I got a bunch of pictures of them under the water, plus relatively close pictures of my daughter petting them and I wouldn't have taken my real camera into the water, even if not immersed. I picked up a Fuji XP120 refurb for $100, which for me is a discount camera. Hence me not wanting to bring my main one into the water. I think having done it, a cheap gopro knockoff would be fine. The places you'd use it are bright sun and some of the subtleties of more expensive cameras might not be necessary.

On our cruise this year I used a waterproof case on my iphone that I attached a floating strap to -

It wasn't perfect in terms of usability, but it wasn't expensive and it meant I could just carry the one device everywhere we went. I would not bother with a disposable film camera. If you don't have an iphone or don't want to chance it in the water, I'd probably do something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-COOLPI...531314812&sr=1-107&keywords=waterproof+camera

You definitely don't NEED a waterproof camera, but it is fun to have one. I have the Nikon Coolpix listed in the post above (a newer version of it I think). It has been fun using it snorkeling at Castaway Cay. We have also used it on several other water related cruise excursions. My daughter likes taking it in the pool and taking pictures. It is also nice to take to water parks. We don't use it all the time, but it is nice to have when we are around water. In the past, we never really had any pictures of any of our adventures that involved water. It is nice to have some photographic memories of those times now.

I was on the fence, but ended up purchasing a used one on ebay for about $100. I have used that thing on every cruise since! It is great for snorkeling at castaway, excursions, cool pictures while floating in serenity bay, bringing places around the island because it is so heavy duty and I don't need to be crazy careful with it... I really like it.

I have an olympus tough.

We bought the cheapish canon underwater camera before our first cruise and have used it a zillion times since. It was a good “investment”. We take it to the pool, hotels with pools, the beach when we go, and even to Disney to use on splash or kali.

It's hard to say what the brand was because Amazon had the exact same camera from half a dozen vendors and they all called it something different. But this is one link : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078K2WRVZ/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?psc=1

If you are a Prime member, you might be able to get this camera (or similar models) cheaper during the Amazon Prime sale today. I was able to buy it for under $45 today for an upcoming cruise. They had some other models for that were a bit more with good reviews as well.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve been looking at prime day deals on luggage, but totally forgot to look for a camera. :surfweb:

We got a FujiFilm XP120 waterproof camera from Costco, before our last cruise and LOVED it! We took a lot of great underwater pics of our kids in the pool and while snorkeling at Castaway Cay. It wasn't very expensive and we feel it was worth the awesome pictures!
