Disney Requiring All Non-Union Cast Members to be Vaccinated

Disney can ask for proof from their employees. The law only applies to patrons of business, not their employees. It does apply to public schools and universities.

In addition, health care facilities have an exception. To answer how healthcare providers would handle it, they'd just ask for proof.

(1) A business entity, as defined in s. 768.38 to include
1123 any business operating in this state, may not require patrons or
1124 customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19
1125 vaccination or post-infection recovery to gain access to, entry
1126 upon, or service from the business operations in this state.
1127 This subsection does not otherwise restrict businesses from
1128 instituting screening protocols consistent with authoritative or

1149 (5) This section does not apply to a health care provider
1150 as defined in s. 768.38; a service provider licensed or
1151 certified under s. 393.17, part III of chapter 401, or part IV
1152 of chapter 468; or a provider with an active health care clinic
1153 exemption under s. 400.9935.

This explains why I haven't heard of any FL universities requiring it. I'm actually surprised that Disney is requiring it of their employees. It seems most people willingly get it.

Again - this is a company wide policy, although I'm not sure if it applies to overseas locations. If it somehow wouldn't be enforceable in Florida, it would be enforceable in other states. Also - I was under the impression that most of the parks jobs are unionized, and not subject to the current policy.

I've been following this topic, and few responses were deleted while others were not. I frankly didn't know about the current policy and got points. As far as I can tell, there's a certain leeway if the actual topic at hand is discussed.
It's been a sticky since early June. I think they also had an alert at the top of every page when they put it in. IMO, this thread violates the current policy, so I won't comment on the subject.

I would say it's Disney news and should be fine, if it stays on topic that is. The DIS posted the article on their own facebook page (though incredibly heavily moderated, not in a negative way), so I would think it would be fair game.

The topic itself is great and informative. The personal opinions, various forms of science as far as who is carrying what, whose fault it is and politics, not so much. Thank you to those keeping the useful info flowing!

I do not know the laws, but when I started working at a hospital in 2001, I had to have a blood test to prove I had my MMR vaccine pre-employment and was drug tested. Maybe the standard at some point will be proof of vaccination or testing for antibodies.
Yes! Testing for antibodies should be an option.

But it shouldn't be free. We have a vaccine that is incredibly effective and safe. Hundreds of millions of people around the world have taken it. In our country, I'm seeing a lot of "vaccine or weekly testing" to keep your job, go to college...etc. The vaccines are free, but weekly testing for covid, or antibody testing...etc....should only be free for people who had serious reactions to the vaccine, or for people like solid organ recipients who need constant antibody checks to see if they can ever leave their homes again. I read today about a college...can't remember the name...Rhode's college..something like that....which is offering the option for weekly testing if you opt out of the vaccine, but charging $1,500 a semester to cover the costs. Also....weekly testing isn't enough. If we haven't learned that yet....not sure we're a species worth saving.

Ok, not free then. My antibody test was $20. No need to test more than once for antibodies.

I was listening to a talk show on the radio about how to get people to get vaccinated. One guy called in and said we should restrict things to "vaccinated people only" and see how fast folks roll up their sleeves. He felt that if they said you can only fly if your vaccinated, or go on cruise ships, or restaurants, or concerts etc. that people would get the vaccine. I get his theory, but I think it would be impossible to enforce and it feels a bit extreme, but it was interesting to listen to. I am concerned for what the fall/winter will bring.

Here in Winnipeg, we have many things that are only for double vaxxed people. Movies, casinos, eating indoors at a restaurant, sporting events. Of course, there’s complaining and moaning about being in Germany *eyeroll* but it’s being framed as a reward, not a punishment.

As for enforcement, we have a provincial vaccine card (and QR code) that only shows name and vaccine status. Only one case has been reported as someone trying to forge their code. ID is also required and the names didn’t match (morons).

So, it is possible.

When I went through Traditions as a new Disney Employee, they strongly encouraged people to join the union, but most of the people in my class did not. I did not. It seemed ridiculous, when you are making such a small wage, to give a portion to a union that will probably not benefit you personally. In most cases, union and non-union CMs are treated exactly the same. It's when a CM runs into trouble that the union can be beneficial. The cost benefit just didn't seem worth it.

I grew up in a household, where my dad and all of his friends were union. They really do matter. This became abundantly clear to me when I worked a corporate job, where I had to work with lawyers to stop unionization.

Employees would make far more money today if unions were stronger in the US with a larger membership. Their biggest competition would be off shoring. But even off shoring has its limits as we're seeing with supply shortages.

As for this topic, as I said already in another thread with a similar title, it's all about money. Period.

The global COVID pandemic created unprecedented restrictions, disruptions and changes to our travel, work, shopping, schooling, social interactions and so many other aspects of our lives since the beginning of 2020. We’ve all been affected, and we have been inundated with news, information, mis-information, frustrations and opinions. We’ve heard them, we’ve shared them, we’ve argued about them.

The discussions, debates and arguments about the virus, distancing and masking policies, various politicians’ statements and actions have been overwhelming and divisive. Many threads on the DISboards have been derailed or devolved into arguments due to this topic. We understand the passion, but feel that we’ve let the discussions run their course. We are sure there are better places on the WWW to learn about and debate scientific, medical and political issues. The mission of the DISboards is to be a great travel resource and a friendly community.

Now that travel is opening up again, it’s time to refocus on that mission!

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

We will NOT welcome debate or opinion about medical, scientific, or political aspects of the pandemic. There are a few often repeated trigger items that won’t be allowed: No statistics about infection rates, no ranting about individual rights, no “face-diaper” comments, no debate about whether vaccinations or masking are effective, no discussions about which governor or politician or news personality did or said what.

In summary: COVID related discussion should be limited to actual policy and practical application, and NOT veer into opinion or debate.

We understand that you may be passionate in your opinions on this topic and want to discuss or debate them, and appreciate your understanding that there are more appropriate places than the DISboards to do that.

This is scary for me. I’ve posted before that I had an allergic reaction after my first shot. And I’ve been told by several medical professionals to not get the second shot. I feel bad. I want to do my part. I’m worried it will be difficult to get a medical exemption.
Wouldn't it be easier for you than for others? Because you can prove that you had an allergic reaction. You took your vaccination and you have evidence your body doesn't work with it.

Do you have some kind of documentation, for maybe medication you had to take to deal with the reaction. That is not the same as getting any kind of doctor signing a note.

I think a medical exemption will be supported by a medical history (regardless long or short), to rule out those who have other objections using medical reasons they do not have.

For us, in the Netherlands, it is not an issue as it is not allowed by law. American companies like Google, who has about 500 employees in NL, cannot obligate their employees here.

I understand

Does anyone have a link to how they know with a regular PCR test that the strain they have is in fact the delta variant? I thought there was a special test that can’t be performed with mass testing but I could be wrong. Let me know if there’s a link to this

No link here but my son tested positive for COVID last week. His PCR test also tested for the 4 older variants that have been circulating for awhile. I forget exactly which ones but the original, the UK, South African, and maybe Brazil (they were listed that way plus had the official viral IDs on them). This PCR he took did not specficially test for Delta as that test is not ready yet. He was negative on those 4 variants so his doctor assumed it was Delta. The health department sends tests results like his off to CDC, I believe, for genetic sequencing tests which then can identify the variant.

... We are requiring vaccinations for all employees, if you request a medical exemption you have to sit in a panel interview with a board of physicians and discuss why you should be exempt ...
My daughter, who is in health care, says they're doing the same thing here: employees who want to claim "exemption" from the shots must present their case to a panel ... and then they must wear masks and test frequently. It'll be a lot more effort not to be vaccinated.
... Then they announced that unvaccinated students would not be allowed to play sports, participate in music performances, or go to dances/sporting events ...
Last year sports were the biggest problem with Covid in our county. Most students who caught Covid were exposed through sports; teams and coaches were not nearly careful enough about wearing masks (or wearing masks under their noses). Whole teams were quarantined multiple times.
This explains why I haven't heard of any FL universities requiring it ...
We're not in Florida, but last spring several of my senior students were already starting their vaccines, saying that they were required to live on a college campus in the fall.
Ok, not free then. My antibody test was $20. No need to test more than once for antibodies.
Thing is, antibodies aren't "as sure" as the vaccine, and we don't know how long they last /protect.
