Disney Requiring All Non-Union Cast Members to be Vaccinated

Local news just reported that all salaried and non-union CMs will have 60 days to be vaccinated. Any CMs currently working off site will have to show proof of vaccination before returning to work. Definitely good news.
It's not just Disney:
- My RN daughter says all the health care workers in our area are required to be fully vaxxed by the end of October -- or they'll be fired. Not only doctors and nurses but hospital cafeteria ladies, cleaning staff, contractors who come in to fix things.
- You've heard, of course, that Biden is talking about saying that any federal worker who isn't fully vaxxed must wear a mask and be tested pretty often.

I think we're going to see more and more businesses requiring the vaccine.

What concerns me most is that people who are PROUD of NOT VAXXING seem to believe untrue things. Things anyone who's listening to the scientists /CDC know are not true. (Not talking about anyone on this thread.)
... Masks for non-vaccinated only translates into nobody cares.
Yep. In my area -- if the internet is to be believed -- 48% of adults have had the vaccination, yet when I go to the grocery store 90% of the customers/staff are not wearing masks. So someone is lying.
The people who are getting the sickest...and/or dying....right now....are the unvaccinated and severely immunocompromised....who can't make antibodies.
Yes, I've read article after article in the last week saying people 65+ are mostly vaccinated, and they aren't getting Covid now. It's young, unvaccinated people who are getting the disease. My 26-year old nurse daughter says it's people her age who are getting Covid /dying of Covid now.
Well, the good news is that the rate of vaccinations has increased 26% in the U.S. over the last seven days.
That is excellent news. It's been obvious for a long time: the vaccination is what's going to get us out of this situation. Months ago people couldn't get the shots, but that is no longer true.

Regarding Disney Union Workers currently not part of the rule ...

At this moment while they negotiate, today it was said "Disney Union: “We Think the Best Line of Defense Is To Be Vaccinated” and they only need to work out how to handle medical/religious exemptions.

Not saying this will be done as I know my hospital system is not Disney. But just an interesting point I learned yesterday at work. We are requiring vaccinations for all employees, if you request a medical exemption you have to sit in a panel interview with a board of physicians and discuss why you should be exempt. I think that's important as to not get people trying to find any physician to just sign a piece of paper for them.

AGREE with the bold. And that hopefully is in the negotiations, it would have to be a 3rd non-interested party to make it valid.

Slightly off-topic is as Disney discussed paid FP, if that does come to fruition, then Disney can require guests asking for a DAS to apply to a third party for certification of need. Six Flags does it now because you are getting something others paid for and it cuts down greatly on fraud and folks getting that really don't need it. Using a third party to certify these things keeps your information private, allows for medical records and keeping them private etc from "Disney" aka employer or service provider to know why, just that it is certified.

This is going to effect staffing with the recent reports of over flowing trash cans and increased capacity. Every cast member who wanted to be vaccinated had that opportunity to do so by now. If they lose cast members and scare off new hires because of this policy and continue to only offer $14 hour for part time work, I don't see how the customer experience is not going to get worse.

I was listening to a talk show on the radio about how to get people to get vaccinated. One guy called in and said we should restrict things to "vaccinated people only" and see how fast folks roll up their sleeves. He felt that if they said you can only fly if your vaccinated, or go on cruise ships, or restaurants, or concerts etc. that people would get the vaccine. I get his theory, but I think it would be impossible to enforce and it feels a bit extreme, but it was interesting to listen to. I am concerned for what the fall/winter will bring.

This is scary for me. I’ve posted before that I had an allergic reaction after my first shot. And I’ve been told by several medical professionals to not get the second shot. I feel bad. I want to do my part. I’m worried it will be difficult to get a medical exemption.

I think that the point is that there is a significant portion of people who will perpetually drag their feet on doing unpleasant things (such as getting stuck with a needle), unless you somehow make NOT doing it more unpleasant still. It's a matter of demonstrating that choices have consequences, and sometimes you won't like them.

My DD is starting a private high school this year. The school was very frustrated that they were getting pushback from parents over vaccination; months of begging were going nowhere. Then they announced that unvaccinated students would not be allowed to play sports, participate in music performances, or go to dances/sporting events. Four weeks later the vaccination rate had shot up from 34% to 75%, and it's still climbing. (They are requiring a copy of the vaccine card on file with the school nurse. While it's possible that some might be forged, I rather doubt it.)

New state laws notwithstanding, I think we will be seeing at least some domestic travel situations where proof of vaccine is needed. I'm keeping a photo of mine on my Keyring app.

I’m assuming this is just for
That is true. Thanks to a law recently passed at the urging of DeSantis, no business can ask for proof of vaccination. This is causing major issues with several cruise lines that want to ensure no unvaccinated passengers board their ships. There are court cases pending on this.

I'm just hoping enough CMs decide to just follow Disney's edict anyway and get vaccinated. If Disney were to make it very easy for them to get vaccinated on property, it would probably be enough to get many to get the vaccine.
I’m assuming this is just for Florida? I work in a hospital in ct and they are terminating anyone who doesn’t have the vaccine

The customer experience is hard to achieve in the middle of a pandemic with unvaccinated employees. The unvaccinated have to quarantine when exposed and may be out for months if they get COVID. IMHO as a small business owner, requiring employees to get vaccinated makes the most sense. If you lose some employees because they don’t like the policy, it’s not going to wreak havoc like the constant absences faced with the unvaccinated.

I understand

Does anyone have a link to how they know with a regular PCR test that the strain they have is in fact the delta variant? I thought there was a special test that can’t be performed with mass testing but I could be wrong. Let me know if there’s a link to this

Can we please, please, please stick to the actual topic and respect the rules of the board? It's exhausting to try to read anything about masks or covid or vaccinations related to disney or the surrounding area without having to wade through pages of crap that have nothing to do with the actual reason I clicked on the topic.

Im sure that if this ever happened, there would be medical exceptions, there would have to be. I know of a few people who can't be vaccinated due to medical conditions, and folks like you that can't get the second shot. They would have to make exceptions for them. I honestly don't see them restricting things to vaccinated people only, the outcry would be insane.

I've been following this topic, and few responses were deleted while others were not. I frankly didn't know about the current policy and got points. As far as I can tell, there's a certain leeway if the actual topic at hand is discussed.

The post she quoted (mine), I stated that my employer was requiring them, but allowing medical (and religious) exemptions. The thing is that the medical exemptions are going be very strictly monitored, opposed to just having a doctor sign off.

The gist seems to be that the union negotiations aren't over the requirement, but how they'll deal with medical exceptions.

Yep, I think this will be the key to getting the holdouts to finally get vaccinated. My dad has said that the only way he will is if Disney or the airlines require it, so there's one example.
