DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Congrats on the new job, Norm! Good luck upselling those elective surgeries.

Introduced the boy to Steak and Eggs for breakfast, safe to say he is now a fan. Mark would have approved, there was not a vegetable in sight.

As it should be. Well done, sir.

Golf ****s are great, man.

See, I gotta disagree. Maybe you went to Taco Bell before your round, and now you're on the 5th hole, a long way from the clubhouse. Best you can hope for is a porta-potty, but most likely you're just trying to go in the woods. Golf ****s are the worst.

;)

Did catch the highlights of the two NFL games. Looked like good games. Soooo... who's happy and who's not?

Longtime Patriots and Tom Brady-hater here, so I wasn't thrilled with Tampa winning. I guess that makes me a Chiefs fan in the Super Bowl.

'Surely 'tis better to plead forgiveness than seek permission' - Every husband in history.

::yes::

As a Bears fan, but also as a Brit NFL fan, as I said on the chat last night, rooting for Brady was like deciding whether to cut your right or left hand off. Darcy to be fair took that particular analogy and somewhat unsurprisingly, sent it off into Friday Night territory. I couldn't root for the Packers. So, I am mildly pleased the Bucs won.

I can't believe Darcy would do something like that.

I really feel sorry for one of my mates, he is a big Tampa fan, so would have had the opportunity to be in Tampa whilst Tampa are in the Superbowl. But he obviously can't get out there. In true British friend style I have been sending him flight offers for Tampa all morning, as there are still flights. With friends like me.....

I can't believe Dan would do something like that.

Afternoon and welcome to Monday Dads! Busy times at work but at least listening to some d-cot Illuminations and Tapestry of Nations right now helps to keep the blood pressure down 8-) Enjoyed the Packers demise yesterday and loved Mr Rogers throwing his coach under the bus about not going for the TD on 4th and goal. Guys been a cry baby and never accepts any responsibility when they loose his entire career. Have a good one and be safe out there!
Off to watch some football, picking GB and KC.
So happy you were wrong on the GB prediction and Jeff made your KC call a slam dunk :rotfl2:
Caught one of the Star Wars marathon on this weekend on TV, one both Saturday and Sunday, and while I didn't force the family to watch it Saturday, I did put it on Sunday.
Did some flipping channels to those myself. I laugh as my son and me will pop these on when they are on TV despite having Disney+ and ability to run marathons and watch whenever we want :rotfl2:
Thanks. Have you started your new job?
I had many of the same responsibilities for the Americas (incl Canada) but yep starting to phase out of some things and into others.

Hellllllllllllllllllllllllo DISDads!

This is the first that I've run across this post, and I'm sad that I haven't found it sooner! I've been lurking around the boards for some time, but finally made an account back last year. I'm petitioning here to be a new member of this great sub-community on the DIS Boards. I know the first page mentioned to introduce myself, so here goes...

My name's Nick, and I am a Disney Addict. (Hi, Nick.) Wait - wrong group for that 😂

I have been a Disney fan since birth. I was born in Orlando and grew up going to the parks. I'm 29 - turning 30 here soon! February 14th is my birthday. I have 2 little girls, ages 4 & 2. I have been married to my beautiful wife now for almost 6 years - and we have an anniversary trip planned for March! I am a nurse and work full time for the VA (Dept of Veteran's Affairs). I love what I do, and the great Vets I get to take care of. I have some side hobbies that don't get much time these days, but I enjoy woodworking, computers, going to Disney, and video games. I run a Disney social media page on Facebook (that's where my username is from) and it's not big but I have a great fan base so far.

I hope everyone local here is enjoying the cooler weather! Looks like another cold front this week is coming through. Great news for me, I'm cutting all sorts of jungle down so I can start installing our wood fence. Plenty of wood for bonfires this week.

LOL, Need to check with Jeff if I ever decide to bet on games. ;)

Travel to Canada as well?

Welcome to the Club!

Yes, we agree that these decisions are political and not science based. We both agreed that physical distancing appears to be the most effective. If 1 out of 3 can go safely to Walmart, then 1 out of 3 can safely go to churches, other businesses, schools, etc. I understand your point that if the "non-essential" stores are closed, then people won't go there and have contacts. The unintended consequence was that more people congregated to the stores that were open, closed schools sent children to homes of their friends and extended family members. And, before we call them selfish or uncaring for doing so, some of the people who lost their jobs had to make those additional contacts for food or other assistance.
Funny. I was just having a similar conversation with my mom and she too asked why we can go to Walmart but can't go to church. I don't have all the answers, but guessed (and I stress, that's a guess) that it was a question of duration. I have heard that it's recommended that you go out as little as possible and when you do, you do so as quickly as possible. i.e. go to Walmart, get your thing and get out. The likelihood of contracting the virus goes up with sustained contact. In a church (or restaurant (ours are still closed)) you remain for much longer. Or at least, that's my thought on possibly the "why" of it.
People still had to go to work and couldn't leave children home by themselves. That may have reduced the amount of multiple store contacts, but may have increased the number of repeated contacts.
It would be interesting (if nigh impossible) to see what the numbers would be on that. # of extra contacts due to restrictions vs # of reduced.
I give them a pass on early decisions when someone predicted over 2 million deaths in our country alone. It was fear based, and it worked. But later, it became about government control.
Yes, it's quite possible that in your country it became about government control.

No, no. Pretty much the right group for that.
I have been a Disney fan since birth. I was born in Orlando and grew up going to the parks.
Whoa. I had to wait until my teens before I got a Disney visit in.
I run a Disney social media page on Facebook
Impressive.
I hope everyone local here is enjoying the cooler weather!
No. I am not. Forecast is for -27F tonight. I can't say that I enjoy that.

Welcome to the jungle...err club!
The chief bacon officer will be along at some point to give you your official number.

There's only a few of us local and I think I'm the only one regularly (sorta) on the dis.

Since I ride a bike, you can keep the cold...have not liked it at all.

Might have to give you a shout next time I'm at the VA...I presume Lake Nona?

Dang! Yeah, I definitely would not survive in weather like that.

Actually, Naples! I moved down to SWFL about 10 years ago. My grandmother had gotten ill and my mom moved down to help her. I eventually followed when there was an opening at the CBOC down here. I will say, there's pros/cons to the CBOCs. It's nice that you can get your care locally when you are far away from a VA Hospital but MAN is it difficult to get guys in with specialists. Plus, no one wants to drive an hour to get there.

We are about 2.5 hours from Disney, 2 hours if I'm really gunning it and the kids don't have to stop.

Anyone else picturing Doc on his Schwinn with a banana seat?
Sure Darcy....at any time if you want to race me on my "schwinn", just let me know. :lmao:

It's nice that you can get your care locally when you are far away from a VA Hospital but MAN is it difficult to get guys in with specialists.
Pros and cons to both I suppose.

Plus, no one wants to drive an hour to get there.
Drive an hour??? I'm in Orlando and it can take that long!

The start time is around 2am for me, so by the time you've had a decent chinwag it ends up being a 4am bedtime. That would be fine if I had the opportunity to sleep in until 10 or 1030, but the kids invariably wake me up. I'll try to get up earlier and get on, but I keep thinking I will be the guy who turns up right at the end of the party and everyone else is hammered. I get on once every few months. Like I say, it is what it is. Not grousing at all, I'm part of an American (in terms of continents, stand down Canadians) group, I wouldn't dream about b!tch!ng about time zones.

Yeah, that would late. And I also think that everyone would be hammered by the time you go there at 4 am.

The good Lady K is a learned woman about a great many things, the scheduling of DDCCs is not one of them, and I am happy not to assuage her knowledge bank of that particular piece of trivia. I would pass it off as an added bonus rather than a reason to attend. Once flights have been booked and rooms secured.
'Surely 'tis better to plead forgiveness than seek permission' - Every husband in history.

:lmao: I had a good laugh over this. And you are correct, tis better to plead forgiveness than to seek permission. :lmao:

Bit of a PITA this morning on the way to work. Stopped at the grocery store to pick up some coffee for the office and the car wouldn't start when I came out. Luckily I wasn't far from the office and had someone give me a boost so all was good.

Well that's a bummer. Glad you were close enough to the office to get someone to come down and give you a boost.

I think this is my last Monday off awhile. They mentioned a lot of training, so I'll get my schedule next week.

Congrats on starting a new job, my friend. That's awesome. :thumbsup2

Good for you. My money just goes to DW, and whatever account she wants to spend with. :lmao:

My paychecks to go to the DW to pay bills, minus what I get for an allowance. My gig money stays with me. If we need my gig money for money for something I'll dig into it, but otherwise it stays with me.

See, I gotta disagree. Maybe you went to Taco Bell before your round, and now you're on the 5th hole, a long way from the clubhouse. Best you can hope for is a porta-potty, but most likely you're just trying to go in the woods. Golf ****s are the worst.

Ok, ummm, apparently I didn't proofread what I typed...sorry about that. :lmao:And Mods, if I did type something I wasn't supposed to I do apologize. And I stand corrected: Golf***ts would be bad. And yes, if one is at the 5th hole when, well, nature calls, then all you have is the woods. :lmao:

Did some flipping channels to those myself. I laugh as my son and me will pop these on when they are on TV despite having Disney+ and ability to run marathons and watch whenever we want :rotfl2:

I'm the same way. I'll watch it on TV but not do the marathon on Disney+. I think it comes down to flipping channels. I like flipping channels and will do so when the commercials are on.

Welcome! I did the same before posting too, lots of looking and trying the right group that enjoys Disney as much as me. That’s one of the many reasons why I’m looking forward to moving back! Only about 1.5 months left before an hour drive from Lakeland to the parks! Anyway welcome again!!
