Hiya!

I've been lurking for the last couple of weeks and have finally gotten around to registering today just so I could post to thank you all for the wealth of information i've gained on here!

I'm in the UK, and a few weels ago my OH completely floored me by asking me to marry him! Whilst I'd love to be able to enthrall you all with tales of a unique and romantic proposal the reality is it actually happened whilst the pair of us were cuddled up on the sofa watching TV. I'm not sure what shocked me most... We've been together for 5 years and have lived together for over 3 years... I met him about a week after leaving my ex-husband at a time in my life when I felt I didn't need to be in a relationship and wanted my independence more than anything...but they reckon you can't choose who you fall in love with! I've pretty much spent the last 5 years saying how pointless getting married is... Our commitment doesn't get much bigger than the huge mortgage we have! :eek: and he's spent the last 5 years saying how pointless getting married is... Its just an excuse for a party for those relatives who you don't particularly like but feel you HAVE to invite... Soooooo... I'm not sure what shocked me most... That he actually asked me, or that I actually said yes straight away, cried like a baby, and generally behaved like i'd spent the last 5 years just desperate to get married!!

My parents had already very kindly booked and paid for us to go to Florida next March. There are 7 of us going.... Me, OH, my son from my first marriage who is 12, my partners daughter from a previous relationship who is 17, and my parents... so after much ummm'ing and ahhh'ing, we decided to book an extra flight for my FMIL (my FFIL died a few months back) and have a VERY low key ceremony whilst we are over there...

... THAT was the grand plan but grand plans have a habit of changing!! Alas, we are not staying or getting married on property. Staying on property worked out too expensive when we looked at the room configirations we would need, and because my parents are paying, a 3 bedroom apartment turned out to be much more cost effective. As I said, the we wanted something really low key, so we booked a chapel with limo thrown in etc etc, and a private dining room in a restuarant. Well............... We are STILL getting married off property, but the restuarant has been changed to the Chefs Domain at Citricos so I get my Disney fix with lots of potential to get some great photos at GF. I'm also waiting with baited breath until i'm 90 days out (we get married on 20th March) to try and book a Wishes Cruise... That really would be the perfect ending to the perfect day!

The wedding dress has been bought (and is sitting upstairs in the spare bedroom with a padlock through the zipper and wrapped around the hanger to stop prying eyes peeking!)... Its SOOOOOO unlike anything I THOUGHT I would wear! I've managed to drop about 70 lbs since March through healthy eating and the gym, so I figured I'd buy a slinky straight dress that was reasonably informal to show off my newly found figure. THAT idea didn't quite go to plan... and instead i've ended up with a proper princess style gown which I fell in love with the minute I tried it on! We've organised a huge party for when we get back home for friends and family at our local cricket club so I get to wear my dream dress again... and all I'm really left to do is organise a DJ for that along with some room decorations.

The grand plan is to organise a wedding cake through GF bakers... perhaps just a small 2 tier cake as anything bigger would just be a waste as it wouldn't get eaten. I'm also hoping to get in touch nearer the time with the manager so I can organise getting some personalised menus... I don't want people to feel like they have to watch the price when they are ordering their food... and I would also quite like to have some sort of table decoration... so I guess that means a phone call with Disney floral.

Well, thats my background... I'm sure i've forgotten loads of stuff that I have planned... But the whole point of this post was just to say thanks to all you Disney brides (and grooms) who post your plans on here! You have all given me loads of inspiration and I really hope you all have the wedding day of your dreams!

Congratulations!!!! I can't wait to see pictures of your planning!

This board covers everything you would ever need to know about Disney.

From a UK wife (May 2007 I was Disney Bride)

Thank you both for your warm welcomes! I'll have to get my post count up so I can post some photos! Oh, the only other thing I really have to sort out is a dress for my Bridesmaid (Marks daughter). I've quite taken a fancy to her wearing a black prom style dress so we are off dress shopping next week to find her something lovely to wear! I think shes more excited about this whole wedding business than anyone else other than me! I've turned in to the wedding bore from hell with my workmates who... bless them... are kind enough to let me witter on day in - day out about our plans!

DS is being a bit of a pain though! He would MUCH prefer we go to Gretna to get married... He went to his Uncles wedding there a couple of years ago and it was 'ace'... Even the kilt he had to wear was 'fab'. One mention of a tuxedo though and thats 'gay'.... Oh, to be a 12 year old again! I think hes mega annoyed they we are having the barefaced cheek to take a day out of the holiday!! :rotfl2: He could be on a coaster rather than at a wedding in his mind!!!

Thank you muchly! :goodvibes I'm loving this place! Methinks DF is starting to feel a wee bit neglected!! Hahaha

I've been sitting here for the past few days just itching to give Disney a call and seeing if they have our date free to have the actual ceremony there! I'm very much in two minds about it though. DF has never been to Orlando before :scared1: and to be honest, i'm not totally convinced he will fall in love with place as much as I did when I first visited in 1991. IF thats the case, then I really don't want him to feel uncomforable getting married there. Hes a chef (and NOOOOOOOO.... I don't get fed by him at home!) so at least he will more than appretiate Citricos and even he can't fail to be enthralled with the Wishes Cruise I will hopefully be able to book (but thats a suprise!!)

we are using the pavillion and its not overly disney, my df doesnt really want too much disney at our wedding like characters and stuff as he is not keen on it but the pavillion is nice

Welcome to the boards! We’re also not doing an overly-Disney themed wedding. We’ll be having Mickey & Minnie come to our reception because it’ll make for some great pictures, but nothing else will be Disney except our castle logo we’re using. You can definitely do it and have your Disney wedding without it screaming Disney and it'll still be beautiful for even the biggest naysayer! No worries :)

Reading this forum got me motivated enough to have another attempt at making the invites for our at home reception! The last attempt a couple of weeks ago looked like they have been done by a 3 year old!! I took a trip into town today to one of the craft shops and bought a ton of supplies and I am SOOOO pleased with the result! Even OH is mega-impressed and reckons they look pretty professional! I had grand plans of taking some photos tomorrow of all my things to post on here once i'd reached the elusive 10 posts... but i've been called in to work instead! I thought i'd bore... sorry, I mean tell you all a little bit about us....

Moi? I'm Christina and i'm 34. We live in the deepest darkest depths of Yorkshire in the UK (actually, we live just outside Leeds which is neither dark... only at night... and it certainly isn't deep!) I'm originally from Liverpool but moved over to Yorkshire when I got married the first time at the ripe old age of 19... and decided to stay here when we got divorced 9 years later. I'm mum to THE most fantastic 12 year old son who really is my greatest ever achievement! Like all 12 year olds, he has his moments... but hes generally a great kid with a brilliant sense of humour and a compassionate attitide so I can't ask for much more!! I'm a nurse... specialising in burns care at a Regional Burns Centre (yep... it smells as bad as you THINK it would!) I love it though.... every day I go to work is a pleasure and I really can't imagine doing anything else!

DF is Mark... hes 37 and is THE most interesting person i've ever met! Since the day I met him very nearly 5 years ago, not a day has gone by that he hasn't made me think outside the box! He has a wicked sense of humour, and our life is pretty much built around long chats and lots of laughter (she says as she's sat here on the internet waffling away whilst he's sat on the sofa watching some TV program about 'The Big Bang' which was whizzing straight over my head hence why I came back on here!! LOL). He works as a chef... I'm not too sure whether hes any good or not though.... He refuses to cook at home! I tried refusing to 'nurse' at home which didn't go quite to plan... he ended up with a nasty scald a few months ago which Lil Nurse Me was left to dress every day!!! I'm still waiting for the gourmet meal he was going to cook as a thank you!!! Mark has a daughter from a previous relationship who is 17 next week and who will be our Bridesmaid when we get married! Never before have I ever seen a kid look so much like their Dad!

We met through a mutual friend who thought we would get on pretty well... How right they were! We are both pretty big U2 fans! Actually, thats a bit of an understatement.... we are both HUGE U2 fans so we had a fair bit in common to start with. We lived 80 miles apart when we first met, and spent the first 14 months or so travelling to see each other. I'd finish work at 9-30pm.... drive the 80 miles to see him, and get up at 5am the next morning so I could drive the 80 miles and be back at work at 7-30am... Crazy stuff!!! He moved up here at Easter 2004, and the rest, they say, is history!!

Oh, we have one more kid we haven't mentioned.... that would be Vox... our 3 year old Lhasa Apso baby!! He is THE cutest, sweetest, most affectionate dog I have ever seen in my life! Hes a real lap dog who loves nothing better than cuddling with us on the sofa. DF is 6'5, and there is something incredibly cute about watching such a tall guy taking such a little fluffy dog out for a walk!

Well, thats about all I think of to bore you all with right now! I'm just sitting here wasting time until this science geeky TV show finishes! Hopefully i'll not get distracted so I can get my post count up so I can show you all some pics of us! How exciting will that be for you all?! Hahahahaha

Soooo... I thought i'd change the title of my post - It only took me 10 minutes to figure out how to do it! Computer savvy I am not! I have a couple of days off work now, so hopefully i'll be able to get some 'stuff' done... although i'm not quite sure what 'stuff' to do first! The laundry pile thats starting to resemble Everest should really be #1 priority, but working on the invitations is SOOO much more fun! I even managed to get a few done last night when I got home from work but had to give up when my eyes started to close as I was sat at the dining table!! I can't quite believe how excited and proud I am about cutting and sticking on bits of paper! I've turned into a 3 year old who proudly shows anyone who will look an unreconisable picture of mummy and daddy! I think I need to get out a wee bit more! The invites are ivory with mainly gold, silver and ivory embelishments on them. Each one is different design but the inserts are the same! I even managed to make DF get a wee bit choked when I included one of our favourite song lyrics on the inserts...

'... We'll shine like stars in the summer night
We'll shine like stars in the winter light
One heart
One hope
One love...'

I've also been thinking ALOT about our choice of music over the last few days. We think we are going to go down the route of having songs that are special to us playing for the important parts of the ceremony rather than the more traditional wedding songs. I'm not too sure exactly how this is going to effect me on the day... I'm tearful just sitting here thinking about it!!! I've decided that I would really like to walk down the aisle to a song by The Style Council (an 80's English band for those of you who have never heard of them!). Its called You're the Best Thing, and the lyrics just make me melt... Its pretty slow so i'm not going to have to run down the aisle... I have grand plans of having it play until the second chorus and then making my entrance else i'd be down the aisle of the small chapel before the first verse even started! (Is it weird that i'm getting obsessed with these kind of details?!?!)

I could be discontent and chase the rainbows end
I might win much more but lose all that is mine;
I could be a lot but I know I'm not
I'm content just with the riches that you bring.

I might shoot to win and commit the sin
Of wanting more than I've already got;
I could runaway but I'd rather stay
In the warmth of your smile lighting up my day
(the one that makes me say heh).

Chorus
Cause you're the best thing to ever happen to me or my world
You're the best thing the ever happend - so don't go away.

I might be a king and steal my peoples things
But I don't go for that power crazy way;
All that I could rule but I don't check for fools
All that I need is to be left to live my way
(say listen what I say).

I could chase around for nothing to be found
But why look for something that is never there;
I may get it wrong sometimes but I'll come back in style
For I realise your love means more than anything
(the song you make me sing - yeah

I'd like to sign the register to a song that was a one hit wonder. It was a group called Ten Sharp and the song is called 'You'... The only problem i'm having with that is I only have the song in MP3 format and the place we are getting married at insists that music is in a regular rather than MP3 format and i'm not too sure how to convert it into something they can play.

The last song we'll walk out to is 'Everlasting Love' It was originally a 60's song by a band called Love Affair, but U2 did a cover version in the 80's so we're going to use that instead! Our wedding just wouldn't be 'us' if we didn't include SOME U2 in it!

Other grand plans for the day is to call GF bakery to arrange a cake. It makes much more sense to just have them make a cake for us rather than to bring a cake in and wind up paying serving fees anyhow. Plus we then have the hassle of actually getting the cake to the GF.

Sorry if i've managed to send you all to sleep with my ponderings! Its kind of nice though to have my thoughts down in black and white! I'll get around the taking some pics today of all my bits and pieces to see what you all think

Have a good day everyone

I was in the same boat as you christina. My hubbie to be never visited America. I started to talk about America more and more. My experiences with holidays and living out there and how much it is different to England. My hubbie started to do his own investigation on America. We booked a holiday to go.

One night my hubbie was joking about getting married in a Las Vegas Style chapel and asked if they have those in Orlando. I said yes but I didn't fancy getting married there. We started to Investigate and found Disney. Most of his family didn't like the idea, I tried to tell them it was not going to be a "Mickey Mouse Wedding", which is what they thought it would. Something cheesie night Elvis giving the bride away.

Anyway hubbie and me were hooked on a wedding in Disney. We started to plan to get married on sunset pointe, but it wasn't available. We decided on Wedding Pavillion, inside it was very tasteful and the window at the altar was breath taking.

The advice I can give is talk about it ALOT. And let him do research if he doesn't like to do that, do some for him and print it all off.

Thanks for your advice Pepples! :goodvibes I've decided for the time being just to stick with where we are already booked! For a few reasons really.... One being the cost!! We had a massive blow out in 2005-2006 and ended up in America 3 times (Hawaii twice and New York once) along with trips to Canada and various European destinations so before I plan anything completely elborate I really NEED to reduce my VISA bill! :rolleyes1 We really wouldn't be going to Florida in March if it wasn't for my lovely parents who decided to treat us all with my Dads retirement lump sum payment(Actually... mum spent it for him... if it'd have been left down to Dad he'd have been golfing with the boys!! LOL) We're also staying off-site in a 3 bedroomed condo kind of place, so the logistics of having to book the minimum stay onsite would be a bit of a nightmare and would probably consist of me and DF staying onsite whilst the rest of our family stayed off-site. There is only me who will drive over there, so it would be a royal pain in the bum!!!

Never fear though.... I have a cunning and devious plan which consists of me MAKING DF fall in love with the place and having a vow renewal ceremony actually AT WDW when the VISA has been greatly reduced... which will mean I'll be hobbling down the aisle with a walking frame in tow!!! Hahahaha

Aww congratulations from a Weddings Board UK lurker :teeth:

The girls on these boards are awesome and will answer any questions you have, even if you're not engaged and not planning to get married until 2011 :laughing:

Thanks Hayley!! :goodvibes I wasn't engaged or planning to get married anytime in the next millenium just a few weeks ago!! I'm pretty sure even if I wasn't getting married that I would lurk around here! Everyones enthusiasm is infectious!!!

OK, thats 10 posts! Lets see if I can manage to add pics!!

The Cast!

Moi... Looking absolutely freezing cold standing outside U2's recording studios a few weeks ago whilst we were in Dublin... I wasn't stalking... Honest!! :rolleyes1

The pair of us after one too many champagne cocktails in a swanky bar... and I wonder why my VISA bill is so high!!!

DF and his VERY Best Man... Aka DS whos 12 and who HATES this photo!!!

Our furry baby!! He'd decided we need a great big hole in the middle of the lawn about 30 minutes before this pic was taken!!!

THE dress! I haven't gotten around to taking pics of the actual dress but this is the dress nabbed from the Mori Lee website. My dress is actually ivory rather than white and i'm not (in this lifetime) having my hair ANYTHING like the models!

... and my very most favourite thing is this....

This is what i'm going to carry instead of flowers... The bodice and tulle overlay of my dress has crystals and 'bit of silver thingies' (can you tell i'm not really a girlie girl?!) so it should all pull together nicely!!!

Thanks Kristen and Lov2B.... Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but a minor detail such as work reared its head over the last few days!!! Don't ya just hate it when 'real life' gets in the way sometimes?! I'm actually at work right now, but its quiet so I thought I would hop on the computer for a while!

I managed to get a wee bit achieved... I called Disney floral, and I'm getting a call back on Tuesday evening to discuss decorating our table at the Chefs Domain.... even though we are only having a small and informal wedding, I still want it to look beautiful! :) This works perfectly as I am taking my step daughter to choose her bridesmaid dress on Tuesday afternoon, so I know exactly what colours will look best. Bless her heart, she is beside herself with excitment! I've pretty much told her that she can pick whatever colour she wants (other than shocking pink) but I would like her to have more of a tea length style dress rather than something floor length. Disney floral were also kind enough to send me the pdf file containing the different floral arrangements that they send out to Disney Brides to give me some ideas to choose from... THAT is one of the reasons I love Disney so much... I tend to find people are just that little bit more willing to go the extra mile :goodvibes I also contacted GF bakery to see about a wedding cake.... I want something very plain and perhaps a small 2 tier as anything bigger will just be a waste... but I have seen a cake topper on ebay that is to die for!!! Ebay is blocked on the computers at work else I would post a photo!

I THOUGHT I had sorted out my wedding jewellery... I bought some very simple crystal earrings and a silver necklace with a crystal pendant when I got my dress... That was until I saw some beautiful swarovski jewellery on ebay a few days ago which I felt compelled to bid on and luckily won!!!

I'm really pleased with how they look in the photographs, and hopefully they will be as nice in real life... I'm hoping they are delivered on Monday as I am taking all my bridal things with me to the bridal shop on Tuesday when I take Dani to choose her dress as I'm undecided if I want a veil or not, and the shop are quite happy for me to try everything on again there to make sure it looks nice with the BM dress

Right... I better check if there is any work to do! Hope everyone is well!!
