If it helps, we've been to WDW seven times and never rented a car/used Uber. If we are going to a resort for dinner, we go to a park and get on the bus for that resort. Sometimes we choose a resort for dinner based on its transportation, i.e., can we take the monorail or a boat? For us, boat rides are definitely part of a nice night out. We really enjoy them. And we usually go to Trail's End at Fort Wilderness Campground once every trip.
Otherwise, you're at CBR--when you check in, they will give you a map and circle the bus stop closes to your village. We've stayed at CBR for the majority of our trips, and despite being in a different village each time, never had an issue with buses. (Yes, I agree with the poster who said don't check the bus threads here, because you'll be appalled, LOL--it's really fine!) Also, keep in mind that CBR has a bus stop at Old Port Royale, where the pool and dining options are. So most mornings, we walked over (coffee in hand, made in our room), got another coffee and something for breakfast, and then just got on the bus at the stop there. Same coming back from a day in the parks--get off at the Old Port Royale stop instead of your own, and you can get food and drinks or go to the pool, and walk back to your village or get on the internal bus.
And yes, not to be confusing, but CBR has an internal bus system as well. It just circles the resort and doesn't go out, so you can go to your village bus stop, and take that bus to Old Port Royale, instead of walking. OR, as many bus drivers reminded us, just ask when ANY bus pulls up: "Hey, are you going to go to Old Port Royale before leaving the resort?" If they say yes, you can hop on there, too.
It may sound confusing, but you'll pick it up easily once there. As for wait times--5 min? 30? Yeah, the buses aren't perfectly timed, and if you just missed your bus to, say, the Magic Kingdom, then you'll be waiting. Having said that, Dis transportation is just part of the experience for us. We don't mind it, and we're not in a rush. You're not going to see everything this trip anyway, so enjoy yourselves and relax on the bus
