Please no negative comments about my posting this question; I have a doctor's appt next week but just was curious now.

My Creatinine, Urine, mg/dl. test results came in as 33.3; one year ago, it was 216.

What a jump!

By any chance, does anyone know what this could mean?

Something going on with your kidneys.

Your doctor should be able to help figure out what it means, but I had mine tested not too long ago and the standard range noted in my results is 0.70 - 1.20 mg/dL

Crossing my fingers that it's good the number is going down. Thank you!

A change from 216 mg/dl to 33.3 mg/dl is a decrease. Both are extremely high. As mentioned, normal range is about 0.7-1.20 mg/dl. Are you sure you have the numbers and units correct?

Are you asking about a urine creatinine level or a blood level? The .7-1.20 levels people are mentioning is a normal serum or blood level. I think you’re telling us urine creatinine levels. 33.3 is a low urine level & would seem to indicate decreased kidney function. Knowing other labs, like GFR (blood test) is important in interpreting what it means too.

Not a Doctor, but I have watched a lot of Grey's Anatomy, ER, St Elsewhere, etc.... :rotfl2:

Here is what Mayo has on its website:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/creatinine-test/about/pac-20384646

-Adult women 0.59 to 1.04 mg/dL is normal (52.2 to 91.9 micromoles/L)

When DH had ESRD, his Creatinine ran at a 4 mg/dL. It's currently staying steady at 1.6 (so slightly higher than the normal for a man, but he is larger than average, 6'4", and the numbers are meant for an average sized adult, or so said the nephrologists.)

If they are talking about your creatinine clearance rate, it depeends on your age. For example, the typical range for someone my age (50-59) would be 62 to 139 mL/min/BSA.
It really all depends on what those numbers are exactly...are they for your clearance rate, your actual creatinine counts, etc.

You'll have to wait for the doc; in the meantime, don't stress yourself out too much.

Different labs have different standards. Just pulled mine up and the lab I used considers 0.50 - 1.30 mg/dL to be normal range.

Also too, just remember that occasionally labs do read/write wrong. A couple years ago, my labs indicated big problems with my liver-blood tests were about twice the highest normal number. I only remembered I was scared as my doctor sent me for all kinds of "next level" tests which all showed nothing, Finally, in desperation, it occurred to her to just repeat the blood test, which of course was perfectly normal. I think someone just accidentally transposed some numbers. To this day I wonder why I didn't get retested First!

I second or third just wait for your appointment. My gastro flipped out about my kidney lab values and sent me to a nephrologist. Despite the high/lows, him looking at the whole picture and not me and Dr. Google, it wasn't greatly reduced function after all and was actually closer to normal.

That being said, still major issues found, but function ok. Try not to worry and just go in educated, but not fearful.

Hoping for the best!

Just thought, my DH had some kidney function numbers that were off and he was freaking himself out. Saw dr few days later and he said those aren’t bad numbers considering your age.

Sometimes one number being out of whack by itself doesn’t mean anything. It is the numbers as a whole or along side specific other numbers that matter. I always have a couple things higher/lower than normal and the doctor is never concerned.

Was this blood work for a specific issue or just routine? That matter as well.

I would try not to worry too much until you talk to the actual doctor. I have autoimmune issues and when I get my lab results they are sometimes out of the normal range but my mind is usually put to ease after talking to the doctor at my follow up appointments. I know that's easier said than done though. With Creatinine it could be several different things. from having too much protein in your diet to dehydration to kidney issues. With my autoimmune disease (connective tissue disease and on the thresh hold of being officially diagnosed with Lupus-which I will find out if that happens at my appointment in the next few weeks), we have to keep an eye on my kidneys because autoimmune diseases/disorders can affect your kidneys and other organs in a bad way.

As long as you see the Doctor. My kidney function fell off drastically and it took 18 months and 8 specialists and a kidney biopsy to determine my blood pressure medicine was causing a rare issue with my kidneys.
