They replaced one of the most fantastic ride experiences they ever had "Soarin' Over California" with this steaming pile of caca. It is so distorted that it takes me right out of the experience. I did it once, and will never bother with it again - and that is a crying shame since Soarin Over California was one of my all time favourite rides. Why did they do this? It isn't like the original ride was unpopular - people loved it!
That is just terrible show on Disney's part. How they passed this crap is beyond me. The original ride was miles better and immersed you in the experience (instead of seeing distortion).
I agree. It wasn't broke, so why did they 'fix it?' I was completely shocked the first time I sat in one of the side sections and I saw the Eiffel Tower bent at what seemed like a right angle. If you assume the people in the center section get a great experience but the people on each side are disturbed by the distortion, that means that 2/3rds of the people are disappointed or bothered and only 1/3rd are getting the experience they deserve. Who passed on that crap? They deserve to be fired. Really. They took a great ride and DESTROYED it for a very large percentage of the guests who do it.
Now, I'm sure some Disney executive is sitting up there in his office tower saying, "Well, that just can't be true, because Soarin' is still one of the most popular rides there is." To that, I would say that it is true that people line up to see it, but that is more a function of a lack of good alternatives than it is an endorsement of the current experience.
If Disney really wants to be honest about how screwed up it is, they should either give ALL the patrons a slip of paper as they come out, and have them put their approximate seat location and row on the paper, then rate the experience overall on a scale of one to 5, or they should station some survey people in the exit passages and have them constantly, randomly, grab people as they exit and ask them about their seat location and their experience. That way, they would build up some good 'comparative data about seat locations' over time.
If they actually DO think they did a good job with the new film, or that people don't notice or at least don't mind, then if they ran a good survey I really think they would be aghast.
