A honeymoon, a 3rd wheel & 3 very full tummies: We get how much food?!?!? 19 Nights DxDP!!!!

Day 11 – September 26th - Tutto Italia – Dinner

We had been having a hard time picking a restaurant for this evening, especially after Eat to the Beat was announced. Originally we had Le Cellier booked, but I was already concerned that it wouldn’t suit Peta and, as it turned out, it clashed with the concert time so had to be changed. There are so many choices at EPCOT that it is hard to decide. In the end, I decided that we might feel like Italian at this stage of the trip as we often eat it at home. I had done my research and found that Tutto Italia would probably suit our needs and does GF pasta. We have family who had done it on a trip I planned for them a year earlier, and they had said it was quite good.

It wasn’t so busy, but it was a very early dinner time. We were seated immediately in a comfy booth. The atmosphere here was homely and romantic!

Our server came by quickly and helped by recommending dishes for Trent and I and getting the chef to talk to Peta.

I went with the recommendation to start:

34029714495_2f1f10ac10_c.jpg

Calamari Fritti - marinara piccante; serves two $30

As you can see, they were not kidding about serving too. This was absolutely delicious!

Trent felt like something lighter:

33186684844_7e33e06170_c.jpg

"Fior di Latte" Caprese - vine-ripe tomatoes, basil, Maldon sea salt, Tuscan olive oil $15

He devoured this! It was light but so well seasoned, and the mozzarella made the dish.

Peta also went for a lighter option:

33988869136_39b404cfe5_c.jpg

Arucola e Mozzarella - arugula salad, mozzarella, pomegranate, Parma ham, mustard vinaigrette $20 – Without the Ham!

She said this was tasty and that it had just enough dressing on it.

Then it was straight on to mains, and both Trent and I went for the classics, hoping they would not disappoint. I went with the:

33186673194_e2e931fa93_c.jpg

Lasagna alla Bolognese - "Al Forno" meat ragu, bechamel, parmesan cheese $27

This was, quite possibly, the best Lasagne I have ever eaten! The sauce was meaty and so flavourful. The whole dish was the perfect blend of tomato and cheesy goodness!

Trent went for:

33988855686_b50c6d85d0_c.jpg

Spaghetti - Beef and veal meatballs, pomodoro sauce $24

This is his go to Italian dish, and he was not disappointed. The sauce was the real star, but he said that the meat balls were super tasty and somewhat sweet.

33186667474_1c833e92c4_c.jpg

Fettuccine Campagnole - Arugula and basil pesto, spinach and burrata cheese $27 (made with GF pasta instead of fettuccine).

Peta said that the pesto was excellent, but it was a massive serve and she only made it half way through.

Trent was excited about dessert, and I was surprised he still had room. He went for:

34029681495_dbc9f8a2da_c.jpg

Cannoli - Crisp pastry filled with sweet Ricotta, chocolate, candied orange $10

He said it was delicious, and the ricotta balanced the sweetness. He ate it pretty quickly.

Peta on the other hand, was feeling very full and made a light dessert choice:

33872303042_bf633fbd4d_c.jpg

Gelati e Sorbetti - Gelati - Cioccolato, Vaniglia, Stracciatella. Sorbetti - Lemon, Strawberry (No sugar added) $10

I probably should have made the same choice, but I couldn’t pass up:

33872294562_94569b4cb3_c.jpg

Panna Cotta Delle Langhe - vanilla and chocolate panna cotta with fresh strawberry compote and crumbled almond-hazelnut meringue cookies; gluten free $13

The server and chef were very attentive, and came to check on us at several points throughout the meal.

And so, the score card:

Food: 4/5 – Very delicious choices here! I think they would also suit fussy eaters.

Service: 5/5 – Staff here were super attentive.

Experience: 3/5 – The atmosphere here is nice, but it is lacking in special theming.

Wow, I fell behind! Great updates! Tutto Italia looks like it was really good. We always go to Via Napoli but I'll have to remember that one in case we want to change things up :)

You've convinced me that I have to try Tutto Italia. We LOVE Via Napoli, but I've been wanting to do Tutto Italia for a while now. My husband loves spaghetti and meatballs!

Via Napoli has never appealed to us since we are not into pizza anyway so I can't compare, but this was one of our surprisingly good meals!

Day 12 – September 27th – Breakfast at Boardwalk Bakery

This update comes with an admission that I failed to take ANY photos of our breakfast here???? How??? I have no idea. We were in somewhat of a rush and ducked down at right on 7am to grab some things before heading to Universal Studios for a full day, as I was super keen to make it there before park opening at 9am.

We took the simple approach this morning of just grabbing some snack items.

I have borrowed some general images off google to give you an idea of the set-up:

33930474341_a66844086e_c.jpg

Peta grabbed a yogurt parfait - $3.79 and a cup of fruit - $3.49

Trent had a Croissant - $2.79 and grabbed lemonade in his refillable mug. He also grabbed a Latte to start the day - $3.69.

I grabbed a fruit cup as well as a bagel - $2.99.

Peta and I both just used our refillable mugs to get some hot chocolate to start the day (Peta doesn’t drink coffee, and I was starting to enjoy consuming much less caffeine than back home so I was trying to keep that up!)

Bonus: Day 12 – September 27th - Lunch and snacks at Universal Studios

We started the morning with the big ticket rides, and managed to do Gringotts, then catch the Hogwarts express to Islands of Adventure to do the Hogwarts castle all within fairly quick succession. This was our ultimate goal for the morning as we had express passes for the day, but they weren’t valid on any of these rides. We also had some fun on the dragon roller coasters – though the others were less keen than I was and they gave Trent a bit of a headache.

Naturally, after all that, we needed to take a quick refreshment break:

33218853643_5f13b816b3_c.jpg

Trent and I shared a frozen butter beer and Peta had her own!

After our early start and small breakfast (plus all the walking and lots of rides at what was, thankfully a quiet day at Universal) we felt like grabbing lunch fairly soon after 12.30pm. At this stage we were right need the Jurassic Park section and I scoured the map for options for Peta. When that failed, I jumped on google to help figure out where to feed her!

Sadly that failed, and I recalled that I had looked before the trip and flagged that we needed to bring food with us. What I had failed to account for was that we had originally planned a full breakfast before coming and then changed our mind. This was a mistake – if we had, we may just have gotten through the day on snacks.

Oh well, in the end Peta said she was actually fairly hungry and we all just agreed we would be happy to pay OOP for a full meal (which was an easy decision after being on the dining plan so long already – other than tips, we hadn’t felt like we were paying for the food (flawed logic I know, but paying months earlier makes a huge difference to the mentality and we weren’t stressed about some additional unplanned food spending).

I was actually excited that the reviews pointed us towards Mythos! Helped by how close in proximity it was to us, we made the decision and head straight over. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait, but it only ended up being 15 before we were escorted to our table.

The atmosphere in here is very cool, like an underground cave!

34031265795_9d47df32a5_c.jpg

Our server brought us bread and butter, and the butter stamp was a nice touch:

33873980222_e8f04faea3_c.jpg

Service here was nothing special, but it was quick and our meals arrived quickly. Trent felt like a burger:

33218921303_1de844cbf6_c.jpg

Traditional Hamburger with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and french fries - 10.99

It was pretty standard but good, and he devoured it!

I felt like a sandwich:

33990512346_1565f2fc35_c.jpg

Cordon Bleu Grilled Chicken Sandwich - Grilled chicken breast with ham, swiss cheese and honey mustard sauce served with french fries - 11.99

This was tasty but there was far too much sauce on it and it was overpowering. I didn’t eat it all.

And Peta had what we had come here to get her:

33218909173_8c3be54c6f_c.jpg

Mythos Pad Thai - rice noodles, mixed vegetables, chicken and shrimp tossed in a sweet and sour peanut sauce - 16.99 (obviously, they made her a vegetarian version)

This was a huge serve! I helped her finish it at the end as I didn’t eat all of mine. It was very spicy for pad thai and didn’t really have an authentic flavour. Very peanut-y and enjoyable just not at all pad thai like! Still Peta was happy to have been able to fill up!

After Mythos we had fun doing the rest of the rides at both universal parks, which with our express passes didn’t take long at all (the crowds picked up by the afternoon though and we never would have gotten them done otherwise – the wait for King Kong would have been over 90 minutes!). The last two to go were the Simpsons ride and Hollywood Rip Ride Rock it (which we were going to do on our way out on the Halloween Horror night but decided we would save it). As it turned out, that was a bad choice. When we came out from the Simpsons, the weather had turned:

33901478191_29592c1558_c.jpg

We decided instead, since a quick check of the forecast said it was going to rain for at least the next hour, to simply head off so that we could have a nice swim and relax before dinner. Before we left, I convinced Trent to get something he had been thinking about since the first time we were in the park:

33990485376_12116060f9_c.jpg

One of the massive Simpson doughnuts! They give you a knife to cut it, it’s so big!

We did get wet waiting in the line and Trent waited till the car to have a taste.

33901466931_9bb4681c68_c.jpg

It was as big as his head! Of course we didn’t eat it all – it was more for novelty sake, but we did have some before heading off to dinner after our swim back at the resort.

I use that same logic! It just all feels like free food that way.

33901466931_9bb4681c68_c.jpg

It was as big as his head

That is ENORMOUS! And mmm...sprinkles!

Day 12 – September 27th - Dinner – Artist Point

After our busy day at the ‘Dark Side’ we had an hour to swim before getting ready for dinner. This is one I was excited about, as I knew Trent would love the theming of Wilderness Lodge. Trent had loved when we stayed at Sequoia Lodge in DLP and I knew the theming here would be even better.

We arrived early after taking deciding to drive over. And had lots of time to walk the grounds:

34019879166_11c8415206_c.jpg

Trent and I were blown away by how secluded and beautiful it seems here. As much as I would miss the monorail, I think we will try and stay here on our next trip. I’d love to by points here with the new expansion, but that will have to remain wishful thinking at this stage as we don’t quite have the money!

I had SO much trouble here choosing what to order. Everything really appealed to me! In the end I went with the charcuterie because I naively believed it would be more of a ‘snacky’ start to the meal and wouldn’t ruin my main meal. As you can see, I was sorely mistaken:

33990444726_c1c3634a3b_c.jpg

Handcrafted Charcuterie - butcher's meat, marinated olives, mustards, preserves, artisan bread $19

Here’s exactly what it contained:

33218870143_32fb0193da_c.jpg

This was delicious! I don’t eat Olives but everything else was so flavourful. The meats were fresh and not too salty and everything just went so well together. I would order this again in a heartbeat – and it could have been easily shared or substituted for a main meal!

Both Peta and Trent had the signature entrée, that I was nearly also tempted by:

33990449616_4ab20ff6c3_c.jpg

Smoked Mushroom Bisque - crispy foraged oyster mushrooms, nasturtium oil, fines herbes $12

Both said it was delicious! Trent isn’t hugely into mushrooms but I had mentioned that they were famous for it and he really felt like a soup. He was glad he followed my advice and I even got a taste – it was creamy and well balanced. Quite rich, but a great start to a meal none the less.

The service here was a little more relaxed but that suited us just fine as we were happy to enjoy a leisurely dinner. Our server was lovely and enjoyed asking us about Australia. She refilled our drinks before our mains arrived, and I was thankful for the break between courses.

After our break, our mains arrived, and they really look like works of art – so well presented!

I had the:

34031273385_50603709f0_c.jpg

Aged Buffalo Strip Loin – Wheat Berry Risotto, Hay-smoked Carrots, Root Spinach, Summer Beans, Wheat Grass, Jus – $49

This was rich and delicious and the earthiness of the veggies and risotto went to well with the Buffalo. A few pieces were a little chewy but that was more the nature of the meat than the way it had been handled. This was a very solid dish!

Peta got the:

33218867873_5a38bd343d_c.jpg

Vegetarian Eggplant Panisse - Coal-fired Carrots, Lentils, Great Northern Beans, Parsley Root, Tomato, Young Arugula - $29.00

Looking back at that photo I’m a bit confused – it looks like there is a meat on top but Peta didn’t mention it and I don’t recall – perhaps some kind of ‘fake’ meat. Peta was hungry and ate almost all the dish. She’s a big eggplant fan and commented that it was nice to have a different choice than GF pasta or risotto.

Trent was here for some serious meat, so he went with:

34048745372_78b3c378ee_z.jpg

10-oz Aged Prime Strip Loin or 8-oz Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes, Charred Eggplant, Barbecue Onions, Herb Vinaigrette - $49.00

It was cooked medium rare and very tasty! Very decent size and Trent only barely made it through. He tasted mine as well and was happy with his choice – game meats are less his style.

We ALL went with our go to dessert:

33646011450_6088e1e7dd_c.jpg

Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee - kumquats, currants, bee pollen $10

And this was the best one yet! Even though we had all had a huge meal we still managed to polish off our own desserts. Perfectly textured with a bold vanilla taste – just such a good way to end the meal!

And so, the score card:

Food: 5/5 – A phenomenal meal from start to finish!

Service: 5/5 – Staff here were super attentive.

Experience: 5/5 – The atmosphere here is cosy and romantic and feels like a world away from the chaos of the parks and the crowds

Obviously a favourite! We will be back next time!

Joining in terribly late! However, I have loved making my way through your incredible reviews & pics. Wonderful job! Thank you so much for your attention to detail. It's been a real treat to see updated goodies from such a wide range of dining venues. Kudos to you!

Welcome, still lots more to come!!! This trip really was all about the food!

Bonus: Day 12 – September 27th - Lunch and snacks at Universal Studios

Service here was nothing special, but it was quick and our meals arrived quickly. Trent felt like a burger:

Great reviews! I have to ask: what is the pink stuff oozing out of the burger?

Following along...Artist Point is a must do for all our trips! Great food and atmosphere. We're hoping to use our DVC points there as well when expansion is complete.

Bonus: Day 13 – September 28th Breakfast and Lunch at Discovery Cove

This morning we were up bright and early for a very exciting day in our trip! If you did read our pre-trip report, you would recall that our discovery cove day had turned into being a trainer for a day! This was a phenomenal experience with an early start. We had to be checked in at 7am. Here’s us with our special yellow lanyards:

34165760666_e5fd4f573a_c.jpg

Thankfully, after checking in there is coffee waiting and our guide took us straight to the included breakfast. There were lots and lots of choices here:

33395882843_fb3e974b50_c.jpg

The trainer for a day is a FULL ON experience – we met sloths, swam with dolphins twice, touched sharks and saw all of the behind the scenes areas.

All your food is included once in the park and there were lots of snack options that kept us refuelled:

33822432760_ba6a8cf042_c.jpg

33395870603_1282384be4_c.jpg

There’s even a dole whip like option!

Lunch is also available and it was good! Lots of options and they could accommodate Peta easy (we just spoke to the chef early in the day):

34049083502_9acfc5253a_c.jpg

Really yummy key lime pie:

33364147414_9fbdee630a_c.jpg

I was surprised by how good the food is here, given it’s included. Admission is not cheap by any means (even for the basic option) but I had imagined the food as a result would be mass produced and unpalatable.
