2023 Goals

It is that time of year again to come up with and post goals on what is to be accomplished in the near future. Last year we had a good year in accomplishing a number of goals, we did however have a couple that kind of fell flat (weight loss and decluttering) I am again using the SMART goals method when setting goals. If you want to join in and post/track goals that would be awesome. Mutual encouragement is always a good thing!

This years list is smaller so we can now prioritizing better what needs to be completed!
So without further ado here is my list of 2023 goals.

Health

Life

Trip to Italy

Try not to stress with the a few big events coming up (two new grandsons, 3 weddings (two out of state), two Christenings, showers, etc. etc. that I know of).

Keeping things simple this year:

Improve health - walking more, nix the soda, would like to add some strength training, and develop a good bedtime routine.

Read - I'd like to read one classic novel each month.

Save money - we have a few trips planned this year, want to redo a room in the house, and get a new refrigerator.

Let's see how these go. Other things we have to look forward to this year are starting homeschooling for our youngest, and my daughter is opening a coffee shop in the spring. :)

Improve health - nix the soda
Years ago I had a really hard time nixxing soda, but I did it! Assuming you mean sweet soda like Coca-Cola, or the like, what worked for me was replacing it with club soda/sparkling water. Still get the refreshing, cold, carbonation feeling without the caffeine and sugar. I'm hooked on Perrier cans now lol.

Cut discretionary significantly beginning this month:

* dropped cable, kept internet - saved $100 per month
* added digital antenna ($50) - free local channels
* lowered cell plans - saved $50 per month
* agreed to no new devices for anyone
* dropped DoorDash subscription
* not renewing other types of ongoing subscription (app, magazines, cloud storage)
* only using grocery planning and lists
* not going places for the sake of going *which usually means an extra meal out, etc.

Putting money towards paying down debt.

Also living simply, mindfully, and purposefully. That will definitely help with decluttering and feeling accomplished.

If you are contributing to the brokerage for retirement, it would be a better option tax wise to max out the Roth IRA contribution which is $6,500 if you are under 50 or $7,500 of you are over 50. You could by the same funds and stocks in the Roth that you do in the brokerage but it would be tax free in retirement. You are already paying taxes on both contributions to the brokerage and the ira but only the roth had uncle sams gift of being tax free on withdrawals. Once you max out the roth then contribute to the brokerage. Love your list, cheers to accomplishing all of them in 2023!

A little late to this, but joining in! I'm going to add in my numbers for Jan into this update.

Home
• Declutter/redo one room in the house per month. 1/12
• Clean kitchen at night. 20/364
• One load of laundry per day: wash, dry, put away. 4/364

 Financial
• April Vegas/Chicago trip: $3000/$5000
• November Florida trip: $0/$10,000 (this is a guesstimate and may change depending on if step son and his family can come)
• One month ahead on bills: $100/$3000
• Car fund: $0/$5000

Personal

Goals for this year:
Maybe pay off the car and truck notes. Would love to get rid of my van, but do not want another car note at this time
Start seriously saving for a trip to England. This likely won't happen until 2024, or later, but we have never actively saved for a vacation, and need to for something like this.
Not necessarily goal for me or DH, but have both kids get jobs this summer. For our DD, she'll need money for discretionary spending for college. Also hope to reduce what she'll borrow for a student loan. Either have her just pay the difference, or maybe we can
Also, need to start setting aside money for house repairs. We paid off the mortgage last year, and are already putting about 20% into retirement, but have no extra money for house repairs, renovation. We have NEVER done anything major here. We are of the mindset of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' Actually more in the mindset of 'even if it is broke, just live with it.' We know we'll need a new roof soon, some plumbing repairs, and new carpet fairly soon, so need to save for that.

I'm keeping my goals super simple for now. Going to try my best to scan my Fetch receipts daily so I can do the daily bonus. It's free money, I usually pick a gift card that I can splurge something on myself for somewhere like Ulta, Sephora or Amazon then I can get my splurge shampoo/conditioner with no guilt. Last year I was able to get $200 in free reward gift cards, I wish they still had Disney cards!
