Booster now required to be fully vaccinated

Could you even get a fourth dose? I don't think you can unless you are immunocompromised. I think that they just want to see that if you've had two doses and its been five months since your second dose that you've had a booster. My husband had his booster end of September and I had mine mid-November.
Not yet, but we don’t travel until summer…who knows by then.

I wouldn't worry about Safe Travels and what they could be requiring by summer. The whole program could be gone by then. No one in public health thinks that we'll be getting boosted every 5-6 months. Its not a sustainable public health strategy. I think that most people got boosted in fall and early winter to get through winter and then this will become an annual shot in the fall similar to flu.

I WANT to believe!!! I do so hope you’re right. You hear someone every day say “we’re just gonna have to keep getting boosters every six months” but I haven’t paid close attention to who’s been saying it; may just be click-bait. You can bet I’ll be listening closer now! (And I’m not even opposed to having another dose—I mean WTH, I’ve had three—but I don’t want it five days before we travel!! My daughter has reacted pretty badly to the last two and I don’t want her to be miserable on our big trip.)

“Aloha,
We are delighted you have chosen to stay with us at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina. We are looking forward to welcoming you soon.
As you prepare for your upcoming trip, please be advised that the Government of Hawaii is considering changes to Hawaii’s Safe Travels Program. Specifically, travelers planning to utilize their vaccine status to receive an exemption to the State of Hawaii’s mandatory quarantine may be required to be up to date on their COVID-19 booster shots. Please continue to stay updated on the latest travel requirements by visiting the State of Hawaii’s Safe Travels website.
As a reminder, the City & County of Honolulu also requires that all guests ages 12 and older dining on the property provide proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours. Please stay up to date on any changes to our offerings on the Know Before You Go page at DisneyAulani.com.”

I received the same email from Aulani.

Me too..it’s says ‘May’ so I think Maybe something is anticipated to change in the near-ish future? We’re boosted but I understand how others may not…

I got the same email. Hawaii official web page still says two shots to be fully vaccinated.

The Governor said in an interview on Tuesday he expected to announce the changes in the "next few days." Still nothing. I'm just annoyed at this point.

He is very bad at this. Agree or disagree on policy, the messaging from the State of Hawaii has been wildly inconsistent and unclear. It's like they don't realize that their entire economy is built on tourism and that people plan their Hawaii vacations many months in advance.

I figured this would happen and he would back off requiring it when things settled. It’s too expensive too implement in their verification system.

From listening to the interview it sounds like they are most concerned about balancing public health and tourism. I did hear another interview last week with Gov. Ige for the Star Advertiser and he mentioned they are getting some pushback from hotels and airlines about the requirement.

I don’t care either way because I am boosted but would be good to have a decision made soon.

Well if it gets implemented anyway, it wouldn’t be the first time the Gov has done something different than his (medically trained) Lt recommended. I’m boosted too, but in a very slippery area between “booster #1” and “five months after your last shot.” Like PP, I just need to know sooner rather than later.

If they require a booster you will be fine. You have a third shot and are considered up to date on your vaccines. No one says you have to get a shot every five months. That hasn't been recommended by the CDC and so the state of Hawaii can't just tell people you need to have had a shot every five months to visit. My husband had his third shot end of September and is definitely considered up to date and would be fine if a booster was required to bypass testing and quarantine.

If its been more than five months since your second shot you would need a booster to be considered up to date but that's it. Will we need annual shots in the fall? Maybe? But we're not there yet and no data that suggests that anyone needs more than three shots right now unless you are immunocompromised and even still that's an optional fourth shot.
