Digital Membership Cards?

After reading through all of this, it appears that DH and I need separate logins for DVC to get it to recognize affiliations on both magic mobile passes? And then everyone needs a separate MDE account? (currently my only affiliation listed is AP but DH's shows everything) I'm really hesitant to start deleting things and trying to set up new stuff a week before we go.

Why make it so complicated? Why would DH and I need separate accounts everywhere?

We're going next week so our plastic card will still be good. Then I'm really truly over Disney. They have overcomplicated and robotized everything to the point that this is no longer a vacation, it's a part time job that sucks the life out of our trips. It's almost farcical that the company with the worst IT is digitizing everything but I can't laugh after spending an hour with MS fixing a problem earlier in the week, then 46 minutes 'on hold' for the website yesterday when discounts came out, and now this mess.

Sorry for the rant. I think I'll leave everything as it is for next week's trip and then we'll figure out what to do going forward.

I would download the temporary card from the website to be on the safe side as that will at least not be expired like the actual plastic one.

I honestly think it's going to go like this. If the CM is able to give the discount to blue card holders without the QR code they will. You will get a CM here and there that will care that the card is expired, but most won't. If the system is set up to need it in order to apply discount well then the lines are going to be very slow. Owners on these boards are well educated in how their membership works and pretty much Disney's every move. Others... not so much. They probably don't even know their blue card is expired. My blue card friend would know nothing of this if I hadn't talked to her, and her mother who is the main person on the contract still likely knows zero about it. DVC is just not good at communicating with their members, even their direct ones, and by not good I mean well they're terrible.

I'll be curious to see what happens to all the folks in the "This is what I'm showing them, and they'll just have to like it" crowd when Disney tells them they don't like it...
We already know the answer to this as there have been reports of people being refused discounts as they only had the blue card

That could happen, and I completely agree that DVC has failed terribly with this roll out in explaining how it all works. However, I do think its important that owners be prepared as much as they can because the worst thing is to get there and be denied, when there were some things an owner could do (like download the temporary card) to help if they do not have the Magic Mobile set up, whether because its not accurate or the prefer not to use it.

I agree there are ways they could make this simpler for owners who don't want it tied to Magic Mobile and hopefully, that will be coming or even be in place and we just don't know it yet.

It would seem that some feel entitled to produce whatever suits their fancy with the expectation that Disney will accommodate them. I'm speaking of the "I'm just not going to do it " crowd.

The page has been updated now and has a video explaining how to set it up.

ETA, the video states that you will have to show the DVC Y affiliation to get the discounts.

For those who go to DL or other non-WDW locations, you will still need to download MDE in order to use the digital card.

Do you mean to set it up in your wallet or that you will have to use it out of MDE?

The video says that "All members will need the MDE app to access their new DVC member card in their digital wallet".

Hmmmm - but that "card" itself can't actually be used or tell a CM anything correct? Just wondering if I'm missing something about that statement as it seems incomplete for my understanding of how it's working.

In the video it also says that you will need to show the DVC affiliation from the card in order to get the discount. On the video it shows DVC Y. So the QR isn't being used by the sounds of things (right now anyways).

If they really make it so that we just show the affiliation I think CM's will just treat it as they are right now. If they can't follow the blue vs white (or choose not to) and there is nothing actually being scanned then I think it still allows discretion of the CM.

So, right now, it doesn’t seem there is going to be another option. The temporary cards are still there, but no change or addition of affiliation.

As I said, I did a screenshot of my card from wallet so we will see if that will work as well. Although January is probably not a good month since there are still glitches.

The CM still has to add the discount. So really there is no difference in the way this used to be done. I have a feeling white card members will be able to display the exclusive DVC magic pass and still get the discount

Unless they become consistent with asking for ID…which they did most of the time for me.

You have to show the affiliation piece, not the front Since you don’t need the DVC design. You can have any.

White card owners…well those who are coded correctly..will have DVC ND…that is clear for CMs vs, DVC Y. Much different than blue vs white.

The white digital card now shows: "Until you have your new digital pass, you can use the digital version of your current Membership Card(s). View your card(s) below. Then, just show a printed copy or screenshot along with a valid photo ID to access your benefits." while my blue one says "At this time, you can also view and print a digital version of your card below. "
