Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I also couldn't get the discount at GCH when I called two days ago. I had reservations in March, August, and September and just rescheduled for October. They gave me $50 room credit but no discount. So frustrating!
See my post right above this, I think you can call back now and get the discount! Good luck!

Wait times are longer because of reduced capacity. Obviously.

To use logic though (and since I am an analyst, I think logically). If capacity and crowds are 25% and they are filling rides at 25% capacity, then the outcome would be the same wait time at 25% capacity with filling the ride at 25% as 100% capacity and filling the ride 100%. Obviously!

But there are no fast passes so standard wait times should be lower.

In having just been there earlier this month. Wait times posted were no where close to what actually happened. In addition, they are cleaning rides (they say every 2 hours) but Slinky Dog was cleaned more than that when we were in line which is causing some of the lines to be a longer wait.

I was able to apply the discount to my GCH reservation for December 18-21, 2020. It was 35% for Sunday night (Sun-Thurs weeknight discount) and 25% for Friday and Saturday (weekend discount). It saved us $827 and we still get our $50 per night credit. I called yesterday afternoon and got through with no hold. I hope others have the same experience.

And I agree that is true. I just tried to pull wait times on the app, but I am having trouble getting them to come up. But someone earlier said Pirates was showing a 70 minute wait. Let's say that is overinflated by double and the actual wait time is 35 minutes. In previous Septembers (and as I have said I have been this time every year since 2004 so I know this time of year well), the Pirates wait time is a max of 30 minutes and more like 20 minutes typically. And that is with fastpasses flowing through and making the line stop and slow down a lot. The longest I can remember waiting in September was 45 minutes and that is because the ride went down about 15 minutes while we were in the line.

Another example is that I have been seeing people saying Slinky Dog line is out by the Little Mermaid and 90 minutes. Last September, we got in the line when posted at 45 minutes and were on in about 30-35 minutes.

I still think that the crowds this September are very similar to what they have had in past Septembers which is higher than a month or 2 ago. And I still think Disneyland will be a lot more like this because of the local AP population.

It's still not apples to apples. The afternoon parade took a lot of "riders" out of the equation, along with the lack of character meet and greets as well as the resraurants not being able to be at full capacity. There are less people, sure, but also less places for those people to go besides into ride queues.

And I have said that before. There are no "people suck" attractions like shows and parades right now to suck up the crowds. But that does not change the fact that they are running lower capacity and the ride lines are all increasing right now meaning more people are there. And I have seen that complaint in my Facebook groups every single day, multiple times a day the last 2 weeks. So I still think they increased capacity but without anywhere to put these people. The crowds look the same if not bigger than last September from what I can tell in pictures and other comments, but there are less places to put those people so it is in actuality more crowded since wait times are longer and more people on the paths. And I really think this is what we will see at Disneyland and I seriously hope people are prepared and not going in expecting it to be super quiet.

Add in no shows either for people to go to that would otherwise occupy people.

I honestly don't believe that WDW has increased capacity and I say this because other parks (Shanghai) indicated that they increased capacity and WDW has not said anything. I believe that people are feeling more comfortable in going knowing that Disney is taking every precaution and perhaps they were only getting 10% of the 25% capacity before. That's my belief tbh

Losing hope that we’ll hear anything today. Why go to all the trouble to make that commercial if you had an indication he was going to release the plans today? I am sure Disney will know before we do when he releases guidelines.

Dr Ghaly is speaking now. But I'm not watching. Maybe he will say something? He was the one to announce that nail salons could move indoors statewide in the strictest category...Maybe he will do something for theme parks?

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. It really depends on the ride. With us, in Disneyland Paris, normally Phantom Manor is one of the highest capacity rides with rarely a queue longer than 20 minutes in normal operation. We see now queues of over an hour in the weekends due to the low capacity of the elevator.

It's about groups of guests instead of number of guests.
Solo riders are now a problem for capacity, where they were a solution in olden times as they take up space of groups of more people. And it now also matters more in which order groups of different sizes come in. See below 2 rides I made on Tower of Terror on two different visits. 1x 8 people, 1x 7 people, but 4 versus 3 groups. But depending on the groups this could have been more or less, which increases or decreases the wait time of the people after us.

For this group below, the group of 4 was the first to be sorted by the CM. If he had known that after the group of 4 were a group of 2 and a single. He would have better placed the group of four on the first row, put the single on the back row with another group (max 3 people)

Probably a bit of both. There is a lot what WDW is not telling, like how many CMs have been tested positive.
But my personal guess that they are probably afraid to scare off guests when they tell they increase the capacity.

I saw the commercial as a call to action for social pressure. A pp already mentioned how Newsom is probably wary of opening more and more too soon, so it may still.be a while until he feels comfortable releasing guidelines and then approving a date for them to reopen. I really want to go back but I understand why he's apprehensive about letting people (even @25% capacity) gather. Here's hoping he provides guidelines soon!!!!!!

The Shanghai & Hong Kong parks are basically half owned by the Chinese government. Capacity & any press reports about such are absolutely not Disney’s call.
