DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

I've seen you like that...
Funny thing is anyone whose been here when the temps got below about 40 probably has. What you haven't seen (was telling Rob about this yesterday). Temp was 97 and I was riding in the van with the windows down (no AC). Since I ride the bike most of the time and it has no AC, I'm kinda accustomed to the heat, so it doesn't really bother me. So...y'all can laugh at me about bundling up for 40 degree weather...it's fine...it doesn't bother me and I'll laugh right along with you (well, if I'm not shivering). I'll laugh as well when y'all are melting in the heat. ;)

Rode the bike to the dentist the other day and had to wait inside the door for a few minutes. When they first took my temp, it was over 100. I had just gotten off the bike. A few minutes later and it was down to 98. The heat I can handle, but y'all can keep that nasty cold weather and non-liquid water. To quote days of thunder:
No, sir! Can't use 'em. Don't want 'em. Can't afford 'em.

Morning from a sunny Westfield NB. Happy Friday. Dw and I are going car shopping tomorrow. Is it too early for a Margarita?
We did that last week, so... yeah, drinks are in order.
Heck, if you're conscious, then drinks are in order.
Citrus is still considered breakfast food, right?

Yesteray DS passed his MEPS physical and signed a 4 year contract with the USAF.

Hey, congratulations to DS! That's great!

DS said one was disqualified because he couldn't pee in the cup. I feel bad for that guy because it goes down as a failed drug test.

Yikes. :scared:

hen today started...Beverly! I've spent way too much time today trying to make arrangements to get my phone repaired. Somehow the charging port got stretched and putting the charging cord in is like rolling a hot dog down a hallway. Soonest I can get it an appointment at their "Genius Bar" is 10 days so I was going to just send it in for repairs. Should be simple. Phone needs to be erased, but I can't do that because the battery is dead. They said I could erase it from another of their products but I don't have any of their other products. I can't even request a box to send it in without getting a verification code sent to my phone which is dead and which I can't charge to get the verification code.

Did you try smashing it with a hammer? That would erase it, too.

Funny (well to me) story. When I went to MEPS, I already knew I wanted to work with computers. The guy there found out (not sure how) I took Spanish in high school. He said, I'm going to send you to take the linguist test. At the time, the cold war was in full swing, so I would have been a Russian linguist. I don't want to. I'm gonna send you anyway. I don't want to. Still, gonna send you. I DELIBERATELY screwed up on the test. When I came back, he said, I thought you'd do better than that. Darn!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Very cunning, Doc.

The heat I can handle, but y'all can keep that nasty cold weather and non-liquid water.

I'm not a huge fan of either extreme, but I prefer heat to being cold.

Morning all from sunny and still warm Fredericton NB. Got my run in this morning in cooler temps but the humidity was still there.

No big plans for the weekend, maybe start on the railing replacement on our deck but I still have some more material to purchase so I may be able to put it off for a bit.

Have a great Friday all.

No

Yes we did, I'm selling some bikes to get a Mustang or Challenger so Zara can go with me she doesn't enjoy the back of the bike. Y

Enjoyed a beautiful day yesterday by cutting the grass and 2.5 hours of tennis. Surprisingly, not too sore this morning. Then, I realized it's just another groundhog day. Perhaps when all the dust settles (pun intended) and this transition is over, I can find an interesting routine.

Hey, Gents! Hope everyone is doing ok. How was everyone's Father Day? I've read some of the responses, but haven't gotten around to all them yet. I had a pretty good weekend. Took Munchkin, my DD, to the beach Saturday afternoon. I was inside looking for work and applying to jobs when I heard her crying over something. Turns out she flipped backwards off of her new hammock Nana got her for her half-birthday. Yeah, half-birthday. I never celebrated a half-birthday when I was a kid....I may have to incorporate that into my life as an adult, though. 😆 My DW was visibly stressed as she's been with her day and night for weeks now. So it was at that point a trip to the beach was in order. Took her for about 5 hours and had a blast, which gave the DW plenty of time to get stuff done. Father's Day on my end was great! Met the DW at an appliance store after she got done with her church gigs. After a lot of talking, and conversing with my plumber friend, we decided that we were going with 4 new appliances. However, we're not going to re-model the entire kitchen. She doesn't care how it's going to look, so we're going to shift things around and make it work. Ok, fine with me. A friend of ours is going to build the box for the dishwasher, and we're going to try and save some cabinets to use as trim. It won't match exactly, but close enough. Still applying for jobs, and as of right now still nothing...although, the US Postal Service FINALLY got back to me about my application and has asked for my information so they can do a background check on me and my driving background. So hopefully something will come of that. Well, gents. Gotta run. TTFN

Beach and job search sound promising. And, it doesn't sound too bad on the kitchen work. I've not heard of the half-birthday either, but anytime for gifts and a party is a good idea.

It had been a good 24 hours and then today rolled around.

Yesteray DS passed his MEPS physical and signed a 4 year contract with the USAF. Uploaded his job listing last night and now he his waiting for a match so he can get a date to ship to basic. Hopefully he will have a couple of months to work on getting in shape and putting on weight. Came in a pound under minimum but the Navy MD said close enough by estimating his BMI. It was a good experience for him. I think they had met their quota for disqualifications and worked with him. DS said one was disqualified because he couldn't pee in the cup. I feel bad for that guy because it goes down as a failed drug test.

I'm not a tech guy and have no interest in the specifics behind it. I just want it to work. The only reason I went with Apple initially is because the Ivory Tower tech support said I had to.

Congratulations to your son. I know that's a big step for him, and reassurance for you in him moving into adulthood. Sorry to hear about the phone. I had the Windows cell phone until they finally stopped making them, and then I went with Android. I'm very glad I did. I've since bought 3 of the "cheap" $200 Samsung phones, one for DW, dd, and me. They've lasted as long as the others, and the sd card is great for storage.

We did that last week, so... yeah, drinks are in order.
Heck, if you're conscious, then drinks are in order.
Citrus is still considered breakfast food, right?

In other words, it's always a good time to drink. That's a great life's motto. Pirate.

That's about $400 US right?

Ha Ha Ha Lol GIF

That's the one, great pick Darcy.

They had a blue GT350 there a week or so ago. I think it was a year or so old, low Kms. They are right next to our office so I checked it out and went a bought a lottery ticket.

Sorry...all the talk about phones and I didn't comment on this.

Congrats to your son and props for picking the best branch!

Things have changed since I was in (many moons ago). I had a guaranteed job when I signed up...didn't have to post and wait. Also had an exact date for when I went to basic. I had done delayed enlistment...not sure if they still do that. Essentially, I signed about 10 months before I graduated HS and about 11months before I was due to head to basic.

Hope he gets the job he wants.

Thanks. He was going to take the linguist test but they forgot to schedule him. Not a big desire for him so he may not even go back to Knoxville for it. Everyone does DEP now unless they sign to quick ship. They said it helps keep the units moving through tech school more smoothly. This virus thing has really caused a wrinkle in the process. Some of the trainees are being sent to Biloxi rather than Lakeland. No family for graduation. A fair number are having their jobs and ship dates cancelled. I know of one that said they have been waiting a year to ship.

Wait! What? I need to have a chat with that girl. Doesn't enjoy the back of the bike. Peh!

Well, then again, it IS a Harley. :lmao:

Ouch. I wouldn't turn down a Hog if someone gave me one. Dad had several over the years and FIL has a trike now. Bigger issue for me is I hate people riding with me. Did that in the Philippines and had more than enough and that was with just one on the bike with me not two or three like some of them do.

Hey, congratulations to DS! That's great!
Thanks.

Did you try smashing it with a hammer? That would erase it, too.

Very tempted but there are pictures on there I want. They aren't backed up and I will probably lose them in the end when I finally get this fixed. Because of the COVID things no family can go to MEPS so I didn't have my son taking his oath of enlistment but I got him and his recruiter when he returned and that is on there. First world problems. Still annoying.

Thanks. I do have android phones for DS and DD because they were cheaper. I may make the switch next time I need to replace the phone I just hate to lose what I already have invested. Being a pirate would be appealing about now.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Happy Friday. DD heads back to Virginia / DC this afternoon so will be a bit somber around here the rest of day I would guess. Long stressful work week as we announced plans to close down and integrate a plant we acquired a few years back. Just ain't enough volume in the future for multiple facilities. We are doing better than our competition but I think everyone is struggling. Will work on coming up with some ideas for some WDW lists over the weekend and hopefully will start something up next week. Have a good weekend and stay safe guys - cheers!
What do you do with the wet poncho when it stops raining?
We use a good disposable one that is not real thick that you can actually get multiple wears out of so I just fold up into a small zip loc bag.
Morning from a sunny Westfield NB. Happy Friday. Dw and I are going car shopping tomorrow. Is it too early for a Margarita?
Nope, not too early especially if at Dawa enjoying one.

Two or three?

Me thinks you need to go back to school for remedial math. :lmao:

Something like that but I was up in the mountains rather than the lowlands and they didn't want to overload the bike :rolleyes1. Love how the dog is just chilling like it is normal. More my style though. I got my license on a Honda CB350 (wish I had that now) though I do droll over the pictures of dad's Knucklehead he had. Good thing it was a big bike because a drunk hit him when he was on it.

And a terrible ending. Back in January, you may remember dd turned 18 and moved out to rebel against my harsh rules of cleaning her room, washing clothes, and working a job/ school or working around the house. I knew things were bad as she'd been hanging around my house more. Earlier in the week, her phone was disconnected. She finally burst into tears today and admitted that her thug roommates had conned her out of $5000 of her savings - all of it- in 5 1/2 months. She's broke. I paid her phone bill as her HS graduation present and moved her back home. All her stuff is in the garage, with a spraying of alcohol. She can wash and clean all of it tomorrow, and until then, she's on the couch. The thugs weren't home when i moved her out, she called them on phone to meet to explain, and i guess they didn't expect for me to be there. It wasn't a long conversation, but they are still alive. I'm home with a Mich Ultra pint and a cigar. I guess there could be a lawsuit, but she was never on the lease and everyone paid in cash. I told her this was her do-over, and she lost a lot of money and learned a hard lesson.

I'm being a pirate now and will gladly take a motorcycle if you're buying. I bought the gen 1 iPad refurbished and really liked it. I'm glad I went with Samsung though. Carrying a $1000 phone doesn't seem right to me.

Sorry to hear you have to close one. That's not easy. This COVID is going to change things for a lot of people. I just wish the narrative could be changed to wear a mask and go back to work - 100% no restrictions. I'm happy that the market is back up and I'm making money, but people are really hurting. Staying home and depending on the government for unemployment isn't the answer.

Morning from an overcast Westfield NB. we are heading out to the city for some shopping. Happy Saturday.

Sorry to hear about your daughters troubles, hopefully the school of hard knocks has taught her to listen to dad.
