*** Official August 2020 thread ***

They seem to have shut down the ADR system right now. I can't modify my August dates (or November ones!) It gives a number to call. Not sure if this is temporary while they change whatever they're going to do in MDE. Maybe they are going in and restricting ADRs?
yeah, that's what I was thinking - I'm also getting the CALL US to change this...that's not going to happen!

oh well, I shall wait!

thanks!

I just canceled our 8/30 airline reservation. Jet Blue allowed us to cancel without paying any fee. We have approx. $500 in travel credit to use for our backup January trip. I was hopeful until I wasn't. We live in NYC and who knows if the 14 day quarantine will be lifted by the end of August.

I will call DVC member services tomorrow and tackle that cancellation.

I’m wondering if Rise will move to Fastpasses or not be open. With the crowds they see at open, you would think the boarding group situation makes it hard to socially distance.

that will be lifted within the next 30 days from everything I read

I think it will be lifted before our trip would have started, but the unknowns were becoming too anxiety producing for me. Once I made the decision to cancel, I felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

Still sad this all happened. So many losses on so many levels.
But, I received an email from Touring Plans with updates on park hours on the dates I was planning on going. What a decrease in hours, especially EPCOT!
I know it was the right thing for my family to push our vacation to a later date. Now we just have to decide when. :scratchin

Just in case any of you haven't seen this yet:
  • New Ticket Sales and Hotel Reservations: At this time, we are temporarily pausing new ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel reservations so we can focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations. Existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders will be able to make a theme park reservation before new tickets are sold; we will be reaching out to these guests soon to provide additional details. We will resume new sales of tickets and Disney Resort hotel reservations after that period of time. Theme park reservations will be limited due to attendance limitations and will be subject to availability.
  • Dining and Experiences: In order to foster physical distancing during this time, upon reopening, our offerings, restaurants and other experiences such as behind-the-scenes tours will be limited in capacity, and other experiences may remain closed. As a result of limited capacity, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all existing dining reservations and experience bookings, including Disney dining plans included in packages, through the end of the year. We will reopen dining and experience bookings with more limited numbers closer to when the parks reopen. We will also shift from a 180-day booking window to a 60-day booking window for dining and experience bookings going forward to allow Guests to make their plans closer to their visits.
  • FastPass+ and Extra Magic Hours: As a result of the COVID-19 impact, the FastPass+ service will be suspended for the time being as we plan to use additional queue space to manage capacity at our attractions and maintain physical distancing. We will automatically cancel existing FastPass+ selections and share any future updates on the service at a later date. Also, please note that upon reopening, Extra Magic Hours will be temporarily suspended.

Aug 16 - Aug 21 chaboyd FW Cabins--We are canceled for August.
I actually made the decision last week to rebook to December. I teach school and had already come to the relization that my admins and parents probably wouldn't like me wandering around Disney one week and back in class the next. I'm sad because I love the crazy hot August weather. The thought of having to carry a jacket with me to Disney just doesn't seem right, but with school I cannot rebook any sooner. :(

Well...I totally understand why they would have to do this but canceling my free dining plan makes the trip much more expensive. I was planning to eat for free for two weeks. That's at least $2000 OOP. I haven't cancelled yet, but mostly, I'm just hoping that Disney would offer to let me rebook for next summer with my current deal. I don't think that will happen :(

This is what we are hoping for too. We are booked with free dining for our August trip. We are Canadians (teachers) so summer is the best time for us to travel. We've been traveling every August for 14 years (free dining bounceback offers for almost all of these trips) and this will be sad to cancel, but I think it's something we have to do. We are hopeful that Disney will allow us to re-book with free dining - fingers crossed, but I agree that it won't likely happen.

Well, changed my date from June to August. Reading up on some of the limited restrictions, mask wearing, limited hours - I'm pulling the plug on our August trip. Emotionally this is a drain. Once all the re-booking fiasco calms down, we're planning a January trip. Good luck with your ventures in August. :)

Sadly, we've cancelled, too. Aug 15 - Aug 22 eeyore29 PoP
We'll keep an eye on the news/boards, and plan a new trip when things are closer to "back to normal." Good luck everyone!

Still booked for 7/31-8/8 but barely hanging on! Not a fan of having a resort booked and park hoppers purchased via a package, but not guaranteed a park entry. That’s a lot of money laid out for a maybe......

Add us to the list of cancellations: Our Laughing Place August 10th-20th
As Canadians, we are unsure about leaving the country / crossing back over. Going to re-book for next August. We've been doing free dining bounceback offers for years, so I guess we'll just be hoping for a general free dining offer for next August. We may stay a couple of extra days next year/ stay club level for a few days since we have another year to save, so that's something to look forward to. Good luck to those of you still going this August. I'll be following along :wave2:

We are booked for 8/7. I don't know what to do!!

I really want to go but I have been unsure. I feel like we are coming from too far for all of these unknowns. I was reassured that capacity would be lower but what if they increase it considerably by August? They are saying 50% of max capacity is allowed. That's a lot of people! It might even surpass usual crowds for this time of year. How is that going to work? I feel like the only perk was that lower crowds might allow for shorter waits. If they have too many people, I could see missing out on rides AND feeling unsafe. This "take it or leave it" policy makes me nervous because we only have 7 days of tickets. I also have a chronic inflammatory condition that occasionally causes a fever. It's unpredictable and I don't think I can risk losing a day or more of the trip since they won't have flexible ticket usage anymore. I'm hanging on tight but I don't know if I should.

I also didn't know that having a legit resort and ticket reservstion doesn't guarantee park entry ☹

I’d cancel if I were you. :goodvibes
Too many unknowns.

My opinion, I could be wrong, 50% is too high to enforce social distancing. I don’t think they can cap it that high. I think they will start out with 20-30% tops, and it will remain that way through at least August. That’s just my view of it though, I could be wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️
