So many more then first thought.. absolutely tragic 😪
This information was updated at the news conference a few minutes ago.

I wish someone could confirm whether or not the rest of the family is okay

We were living in that world prior to 9/11. I remember non-stop news coverage, when Princess Diana & JFK Jr. died.

Very true. When I think about it, the first real wall to wall coverage I remember vividly (I was old enough) was The Challenger. Still never forget the face of my English teacher when she came into the science class to tell us what happened. I was glued to the TV when I got home from school.

I seem to remember we started getting wall to wall news when TV stations realized they had to compete with CNN and their 24 hr, non-stop news. They didn't want people switching over to CNN, so they started posting some news stories non-stop.

I forgot Challenger. I saw that too.

I personally think that non stop coverage is too much, but that actually wasn't the point that I made earlier. If his death is that important to some people that they want to watch non stop coverage that's fine of course.

What I specifically don't like is the constant showing of the actual crash site - the bodies have not even been recovered and I think that is what is disrespectful. It just seems too gruesome to me.

You didn't watch it live on tv? My 5th grade class did.

Omg they are saying his children were onboard?? I really hope that’s not true.
ETA: only place I heard that was on the pro bowl broadcast.
First reports here were that it was his entire family.

I am relieved to see updated reports that this is incorrect but saddened to know he did have one daughter in board.
My thoughts are with his wife and other children.

The first reports had indicated that the Sikorski helicopter model that crashed had a passenger capacity of 4 plus a pilot. Which I guess is where the 5 deaths came from initially. The TSB representative on CNN a bit ago said they needed to check to see “what configuration” this was - perhaps it had been modified somehow. They also said that the flight manifest had 9 recorded as being onboard.

Sad. That’s a lot of loss for one family to handle :sad1:

So many questions. I thought he flew his own helicopter, but I guess not this time? Need to take a break from the coverage, though.

And I saw another that accommodated 8 passengers and 2 pilots, so....

I believe the crash was caused by poor weather conditions...visibility. Time will tell.
