Zero regrets about going cold turkey on FB during the 2016 elections and not looking back! I go on like once every 6 months (because I want to read something linked to FB from another place on the web) so I didn’t go 100% off- but darn close and have been SO much happier for it. That said I don’t have kids or grandkids I’m trying to keep up with (aren’t they on Instagram yet instead? Kids these days need to get with it!).
Yessssss. I pulled back a ton from social media after the blowout in my family... and now I have almost no interest in posting and may scroll through once every week or two... But a lot of the photos friends/family post are on Instagram. I just love not reading the nonsense (cause a lot of nonsense still comes out of my family that are digs at me anyways, plus all of the other general nonsense) or spending all of this time mindlessly scrolling. I mainly post on Instagram now, I never even changed my name on facebook after getting married.

Can someone help me find out more info on this. I did some searching and from what I'm gathering you product changed (pc'd) the Freedom Unlimited to a Reserve? I'm KICKING myself for not getting the research and now have approx. 28 months till I can get it. If I could get it earlier, that would be amazing, even if I forgot getting the sign up bonus.

And PP is propriety pass right? For lounges? I thought those no longer got you in? I'm feeling so lost lol...

@afan covered the pc rules well.

Priority Pass issued by Amex cards no longer get you into the restaurants that are part of the PP network. CSR PP still does.

@palhockeymomof2 has shared some info about Southwest that I posted on the DISchurners news thread. For those interested in Southwest, you might want to check it out. :D
I think I might actually be able to figure out Aruba with this. I will have to book separate segments at approx 3800RR each to make it work, but it is doable. BNA-FLL and FLL-AUA, then the return the same way. That will be A LOT of confirmation numbers with 6 of us! Yikes!
I also see AA round trip for 30k each, or I could mix and match. Looking at either right before Christmas (2 kids bdays) or leaving BNA on new years, after the hockey tournament ends. The hilton is 80k (as always) or approx $700 , so that is a good value for my points!

Instagram only for me (well, twitter too but I don't post anything there). My insta feed is tightly curated---my dh, my kids, ds's fiancee, my aunties, a couple cousins, 2 small local businesses---so that I don't get stressed out by drama. Note I do not follow any of my inlaws

You guys are really making me think about homeschooling. It sounds like such a different experience than it used to be. Dh is worried about the social aspect but it sounds like that’s not a problem anymore. We come from a small town in Iowa and there were only a few families that homeschooled and it was all for religious reasons.

I’ll have to do my research when that time comes. It could still change a bunch before then! I like the fact that you get one on one time with their learning and can individualize it to fit their needs (speed up, slow down, work on topics that aren’t normally taught at school if the child is interested in them).

I homeschooled DD the last two middle school years, for this reason. It was fantastic. She has issues with reading (which then impacts every subject) and I felt like she was falling through the cracks at school. Having some issues, but not enough for intervention. We were able to really focus on reading comprehension, spelling, etc. And move through math/science classes at a faster pace because she was better in them. She went back to HS by her choice last year, and it's going well. But part of me wishes I started them all on the homeschooling path to begin with.

I have several friends that homeschool also, coincidentally, we did not meet at a coop or anything like that. Non were for religious reasons, so it's pretty common around here.

On the phone issues. all of mine got them in 5th grade, when afterschool life and activities made things more challenging. First one started with a cheap trackfone. That didn't last long, it sucked. Moved into getting our old iphones quickly. I love the find my iphone app because I love stalking my children. I do think my daughter spends way too much time on social media. But I won't take it away, most communication with her friends is through it. My boys couldn't care less about social media, their friends primarily text or facetime.

I found it. It's the last item at the bottom of the page in Wiki. There are 3 linked posts - 1 from Calypso and 2 from me.

I'm gradually making my way through all the content and format of the site and right now, getting easily turned around. But I've got time to learn.
Oh man - the Wiki. We uhhh haven't been doing a good job keeping that updated LOL. @Albort - I'll message you on that.

I'm going through MSR-withdrawal and looking for a business card to help until I am under 5/24 (just a few months!).

I'm looking at US Bank, specifically the Cash Rewards World Elite Mastercard. IIRC, I might have a problem because US Bank wants a "relationship" and I don't have any US Bank accounts (and haven't ever).

Can someone confirm this? If it's true, I might have to venture into bank bonuses . . . is US Bank's banking bonus pretty easy?

I'm so behind! 13pages, darn work!

I got a phone when I turned 16 and started driving. The free sanyo flip phone out at the time lol. Then just before I left for college, just under two years later, I got an LG Rumor, which had a slide out keyboard, and we added texting. Seriously we stopped on our way out of town that night :rotfl: I never learned to text without a full keyboard. Id been begging and offering to pay for texting for months. My sister also got the free flip phone then, at 14, since she was in more activities than I'd been.

Our upgrade date was always in the fall, and my sophomore year of college, my dad decided the responsible adults should all get blackberries. So we all got Curves and data/internet access and there was no turning back for me! I really liked that phone but most sites weren't mobile friendly yet lol. And if you're following this was only about a year from the last upgrade. My dad was always kind of into gadgets and computers...

Then when 2 years rolled around again my dad and I both read reviews to figure out the best new phones for us... I cant remember, my sister might have been included in the fancy smart phones now at 17. Or gotten a BlackBerry passed down. We settled on Motorola smartphones for having the best reviews at the time. Those were good phones too.

I know iPhones came out sometime, and my sister had been asking for one for awhile. I had friends with them and... wasnt impressed :duck: This was 2013 and the few years prior. Everyone I knew either loved it or was indifferent, and they were expensive, no storage, insurance didnt cover anything on them (at the time), broke easily... so when my dad asked me what I thought of them, vs other phones out there, I gave him my laundry list of issues, I had zero interest in them and had always been a PC girl anyways, and also compared them against some other android phones that I would prefer. I didnt care if my sister got one if she wanted one so bad, but I wanted something else

Christmas rolls around and there are TWO iPhone 5cs. Those were the colored plastic ones (I can see @MKTokyo cringing lol). Basically my new evil stepmother thought iPhones were the best and that overrode my personal decision on whatever android I preferred :( Even though she was not as techy as I was, not even close. The 5c was sized slightly differently than they 5 and 5s so none of the accessories ever fit. I was upset it was only 16gb because I'd already had an sd card in my old 32gb phone... the best thing about it was I got $300 for selling it to Verizon 2 years later :rotfl:

Then I got a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 which was great until at two years it started crashing all the time. Now I've got a Galaxy S8 which is two years old this month. I liked my Droid better. Now I've got that itch since it's been 2 years, but on the other hand I like my $60 phone bill...

When I decided to add kids to my plan, oldest was already on her own so it was just son and daughter. Youngest daughter got a phone at 9 or 10, son is 8 years older. Can't remember if this was his first phone - probably not - he may have had one from his Dad. Bought 3 samsung flip phones all the same for us. Was worried they would lose or break, but mine got stolen. Son kept his for forever, but daughter and I upgraded when mine disappeared to an orange colored lg phone that you opened for a keyboard. Anyway, there's a drawer full of museum eligible phones around here, including my old favorite the Motorola Star Tac - I thought I was special. Before that in 1990 I had a car phone installed in my trunk (hard wired) with a phone just like a house phone mounted up front. It was an Audiovox and the sound quality was great - you could hear and having a phone in your car was special back then.

Fast forward to present: Daughter has a Samsung 9+ I think it is and I have an S8. Paid outright for the phones with Comcast/xfinity - I got a $250 gift card so phone was essentially about $400. This months bill for service is 19.34 as we keep them on wifi almost exclusively. Highest combined bill was $30ish. I'll use more data, but not that much more while driving to Florida - just if there is an emergency or traffic slowdown, if I'm alone. Next trip I'll have 2 friends with me so they will use their phones if I need help - I'll be driving. In hotel, switch to wifi but I carry my small hp envy 360 i7 13inch laptop and use hotel internet. Love this laptop, small, thin and serves my needs.
As I may have mentioned, I want a new phone, mostly because it is chipped, and willing to shell out the almost 1k to get it. Daughter is making me feel guilty.

Does that work on safari on iphone? I've never had issues in chrome on my laptop (must be do to my other ad blockers) but over the last couple weeks that redirect pop-up happens whenever I try to read DIS on cellular data (my current ad blocker on my phone only works on wifi). tagging @PolyRob

sorry, I'm no help. iPhone illiterate here.

I generally get mine at TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Ross or Burlington for this reason. I can get a decent hard sided case for a price I'm willing to pay but if something happens, like it comes off the plane smelling like fish (I'm looking at you united (I think) flight BOS to SFO) then I don't mind if I have to toss it cause it got broken the first time I used it or something. I think I had a fabric, before the hard sided came out again (cause we had an old samsonite I had to sit to get it closed when I was 12 but that was a good hard sided suitcase but no wheels), that came off my flight with a rip in it, thankfully was home but it was the first time I'd used it. I had very bad luck with suitcases for a few years.

Plus those stores often have crazy patterns or different colors other than black which makes it more fun. So now I have an electric blue huge suitcase, a teal-ish color 25" or whatever normal checked is and a fun soft side carryon that's brown with owls but cute owls. It's not at all what I'd use for everyday but for travel it's totally fun and not something a lot of other people are going to have. I like my luggage to stand out and border on obnoxious if possible so I'm totally getting one of those suitcase cover things @calypso726 posted about ages ago for our trip to Asia. (and yes I realized I used an excessive amount of parenthesis in this post)

This is me too. I don't mind getting something that if it gets damaged I won't mind having to just get rid of it. And I agree a pattern or color that stands out works great when it's time to collect your luggage. It also helps that DD works at Home Goods so we get enjoy the 20% employee discount occasionally.

OHHHH I was just looking at Aruba! We're a family of 6 as well. Are you going to get 2 rooms? I cant figure out how to make it happen....we're looking at March 15-20th for Spring Break.

there no uBlock on the ios platform but there are a ad blockers that are built in for all of your iPhone/Ipad needs... i have a rather old one called 1block(i think) to which i wont recommend because they tried to go into a subscription mode and decided to force ppl to it if u kept it up to date.

Im currently filtering my ads physically at the router level though, but i use ublock origins... NOT TO BE CONFUSED with ublock. they are 2 different blockers. use ublock origins and not ublock.

Yes, I am using ublock origins. Seems to work. I've had a peaceful morning. Yesterday one pop up nearly gave me heart failure as it was a siren and my sound was not turned off as it usually is. For a hot second I thought it was a smoke detector. That's when I handed computer to techie type daughter and said 'fix this'.

All of the talk of old cell phones, makes me wonder if anyone had a PDA (personal digital assistant, for you youngins:rotfl2: ) It was like a smart phone, without the phone. A bunch of apps. They were big around 20 yrs ago. My kids found an old one of ours in the basement. Powered it up and it still worked. They thought it was hilarious. :D

Thanks to all who chimed in on Southwest cp cancellation. I just worked a little magic, and assuming that I can find a use for the travel bank funds I just got back (no current plans, but I have until next July to use them), I think my flights for 4 to Orlando just before Christmas are costing me something like $45 out of pocket.

This was a cash booking, using Luv voucher and gift cards and other assorted methods of payment, so its a little hard to track exactly how much the different currencies actually cost me, so that $45 might be a little high :rotfl: .

So now I need to think about whether I should shoot for getting APs to USO - if we have travel bank funds, its more likely that we will be back there within the year!
Do it!!!! I love my USO APs!!!! I upgraded to the premium since we had several trips planned and this allow us to stay the "cheaper" resorts and still have EP after 4 pm (which we are fine with.) I currently have 4 night at SF booked for Thanksgiving and 2 nights at SF at Christmas time on AP rates.

Chase login q. I want to get targeted for a pre-qual offer (LOL- who doesn't want a chance to dodge a Chase Shutdown?). My personal login has only personal cards and my personal investment account. The only offers I ever see are Chase Business Cards (with a note we haven't found any offers for you today), Chase for Business (Business Lending) and Chase Merchant Services. Is anyone else with a personal account only over see these "offers"? I'm worried that because I linked a business checking account (long since closed) to the profile I might have screwed up my chance at pre-qual offers?

That's all I used to see. Now it's back to that with the exception of a referral offer for my new card - the CIU. I was checking very often and one day, there were the business card offers on my personal account! I also have a Chase Marriott Biz on a separate biz account, so keep checking both accounts.

I know someone who still uses a Palm Pilot!

@SouthFayetteFan - on the other source, I found a link to a post I made here about DVC. One item has changed in there - you now need to purchase 75 points to get the direct perks (plus there is a rumor it's going to 100 - just a rumor so far). At the time of my post it was still just 25. I was going to edit the post but since it's back in 2017 - you can only 'report' it.

It is not on the DVC site but I have been in touch with my guide this week and she has confirmed it. Effective September 17 you need 100 points for direct membership perks. I am sad to report that I am flirting with the idea of buying 75 direct at AKV if it pops up as available. I want another direct so I could use it at DRR etc. Plus AKV works really well for us. Plus I have a brand new CIP on its way. :)

I had the Palm V and Sony CLIE PEG-UX50 in college!

IMG_0764.jpgOh yes, indeed! I still have this thing, I don't know why. But before that even, I had a Sony Clie.
