Can I just rant for a second? :mic:

I was at Costco yesterday restocking our pantry and fridge after coming back from vacation, where I passed by the Citi Costco credit card booth offering up a cooler bag for signing up, and a young techie wearing his company swag t-shirt (some machine learning startup) actually signing up with a big grin on his face! I can only hope that he’s well past 5/24 and really needed that cooler bag to store some brews for a nice picnic at a park somewhere. Because otherwise... :sad2:

One more /facepalm story. 🤦‍♂️ I live near a popular brunch spot (like, every neighborhood in San Francisco has one or several popular brunch spot(s)). When the weather is nice, like it was this past weekend, they do al fresco dining out front. And as I was walking past with my kiddo on the way to the park, I saw a couple of yuppies paying their check with an Amex Platinum card. Sure, it’s flashy, but it’s got a terrible earn rate—especially when so many other cards earn nice bonuses for dining! I really hope he was working on the MSR. Like seriously, I have 3 Platinums right now and the only time they ever see the light of day is when I’m headed to a Centurion Lounge. I don’t need to drop a Platinum on a check to show off if that’s all it does for me. (Besides, Rose Gold is much prettier. :lovestruc) And nope, this brunch spot isn’t part of the the Resy program or promo, so no extra MRs there.

I think I’m in too deep when I pay attention to what cards other people are applying for and using. I was sorely tempted to intervene, but I’ll settle for silently judging people. :magnify:

I tend not to notice what cc's people are using, but I do notice when people pay cash. Like $100+ cash at the grocery store. I have to fight the impulse to step in and say, how about if I put that on my cc and you give me the cash?

I'm in Hawaii right now. Flew my family of 6 on Southwest using 2 CPs. We went from Austin to San Francisco for 2 nights, then on to Honolulu. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I booked my Oak-HNL flights as soon as they were released at promo rates so around 99-125/ ticket (one way) if I recall.
How were the seats on SW for a flight that long?

As for your what ppl apply for, i made the mistake of telling an apple fan boy that the apple card sucks and isnt worth it.
oh man, :duck::duck::duck:

I'm dreading when the Apple Card becomes the new "IT" status card and all the young techies, finance, and fintech guys start dropping the new titanium clanginess on bar tops and dining tables all around the city. THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S DESIGNED FOR, BRO!

2% cash back when using Apple Pay – you know, that digital wallet with the cool virtual cards no one else sees or cares about.
1% cash back when using the physical Apple Card – but hey, you can flash the new shininess so everyone knows how cool you are!

Will Tesla take Apple pay? I'd like to write an article about how I saved 2% purchasing one with my Apple Card.

If anyone is interested hyatt points are on sale, it comes out to 1.7 per point then if you use your cc... go to world of hyatt
  • Purchase 5,000 or more Bonus Points in a single transaction and receive 40% additional Bonus Points. Bonus Points will be awarded upon completion of individual transaction.

Yep, it's been discussed. Sale runs through 8/27/19.

and @Lain - then the people have to return $200 worth of items and the credit goes back on your card, lol.:rotfl2:

Seriously though, half the time I get a Costco card back.

CA law requires merchants to cash out GCs with less than $10 in value. So if I return or request a price adjustment on an item and the value is less than $10, they just refund me in cash. :)

SO wants this card. Things got heated when I explained how awful it is. He was just like relax I was just saying it looked cool I won’t get lol

DH was initially eligible for the Schwab card and got all the way to the last screen before the dreaded pop-up appeared. The VERY weird thing is that I don't believe he's ever had a personal platinum card before and the only Amex he has is a business preferred. He had the SPG business but got rid of it after a year when they changed the program. We put a ton of money on the Amex business card (including a recent 5 figure transaction) so that can't be it. Annoying!
@Lain posted an idea on these popups somewhere in this post, its worth reading and making a choice... if only i had a spreadsheet to keep track of these post :P

This is purely conjecture:

It doesn't make sense if DH is putting a lot of spend on his Amex card(s), for him to get the pop up. Since this 100k MR offer just came out and is likely to draw a lot of interest, there might be something to @gottalovepluto's theory that Amex could be using the pop up (in part?) to manage their rewards expenses. If I were in your/DH's shoes, I would continue to spend on his existing Amex card(s) and try again for the CS Plat before the 100k MR offer expires, maybe even periodically. Perhaps by then, the demand will have tapered off and Amex's expected rewards costs from this promotion will be more manageable to allow more applications through.

I'll be facing the same choice in a couple months. Seems like a good move. I like that the Rewards+ rounds up to the nearest 10 points, so I'd probably use it for small purchases. I was concerned that if the account number changes, it might reset the 24 months clock. But there was a language change, so now that doesn't seem like a concern anymore.

Thanks - I think I'm going to do it with DH's card this month (mine is due next month) and make sure I don't see any other downfalls. That way if there is a problem, I should be able to move the points from DH's Rewards+ to my Premier.

I'll let you know if there are any problems.

I am not surprised if there is nothing open in Disney resorts that period in December, since Rise of the Resistance opens 12/5. I suspect some people waited to book then, so they can experience the full land.

forgot about that. You are probably right. That likely accounts for part of the resort availability issue.
