Thanks for the reply. We don't have a Costco membership :( We do have Sam's. I think their travel system is up again. I'll have to check on that.

I did call Enterprise (which was the company I would be using). They said with a 3rd party it had to be added on before hand. I'm on the phone with Chase Travel now, asked if they could add an add'l driver when booking. He doesn't know either, on hold.

If I didn't drive a bus (suburban) she could just drive my car and I could take the rental. But not sure she/I would be comfortable with that.

This is
Post back what Chase says, if you don't mind. It would be nice to know if they can add a driver booking over the phone. It was an extra $17 (PER DAY) I think to add a driver at the counter. We didn't pay it and I did drive the car but I don't recommend that!!

ETA: meant $17 per day. We had the car for 3 days so adding me was going to be almost $60 which is what we paid for the car already!

Chase wasn't able to add it either. Guy said there was no spot to add on his end. He put me on hold a couple of times to ask some other people, but in the end it was a no go. Not a huge deal for now, but we had thought about renting a car for a road trip (to save miles on my aging car and DH's truck won't fit our family plus both of our mothers). DH suggested we rent a car, I was thinking that was a good idea. But we would def want the both of us on the rental.

Is Costco really that cheap? Maybe I should look into getting a membership? I just got on there and poked around it shows about $35 cheaper. But with the CSR I can redeem at 1.5x. But maybe Costco rates are cheaper if you're logged in or something.

Thanks for reporting back. That is a bummer though.

Costco is definitely comparable to CSR rates, ime. We rented a minivan two summers ago in TX and they were slightly higher than CSR rates. Minivan in TX this past Nov was much cheaper through Costco than CSR rates and our rental for FL was almost same but we'd have been able to add me for free through Costco. My aunt has a CSR as well and I know she often says Costco was still less. She doesn't have Costco close at all but she got a membership just for the car rental rates. Depending on how much you rent, it might make sense for you.

My dh had a job interview today and he felt it went great. I think he will be offered the position but this company moves a bit slow so could be a few weeks until he interviews with the guy who'd be his boss (a regional VP). My dh interviewed for this same job last year at this time but right after his interview a lot of changes occurred in the company (shuffling people around) and while most of the changes were good, it led to my dh not getting hired. It's all a long story but I knew this would all come back up and now it has.

The job is a remote position so we can live anywhere, which is exciting to think about! We won't move for a couple of years so our dd16 can finish out school here. After that, I think we are ready to either head back to TX or maybe consider FL again. With aging relatives, moving back to TX might be what we feel we need to do rather than what we want to do. Still considering the Panhandle of FL as we love the gulf side of FL and that isn't a very far drive to family in TX. @tink1970 I may be coming for a visit in a year or so :drinking:

How exciting! Good luck to DH :shamrock:We have a guest room and a pool so stop on in!
:beach:

Thanks for answering..lol Was wondering whether to buy Disneyland tickets separate from the Zoo. It appears that the SC Citypass has both at a discount.
We used that on our first Cali trip. At the time it was 1 day at Universal, 3 days at Disneyland non parkhoppers, and I think a day at Sea World. Then for an upcharge you could add the Zoo or the Safari park. It was easy to use, it worked like a ticket everywhere. I know we upgraded the Universal part to have the 1 EP per ride thing, in person at guest services at Uni. Didn't ever inquire about upgrading to parkhoppers at DLR (not sure why you wouldn't be able to though...). I just compared all of the ticket discounts and that worked out best for us because we wanted to go to all of those places on that trip.

Thank you! I just posted in the DL forum as well.

Just mailed DDs taxes. Like a peasant. Lol Had to mail her nonresident PA taxes because they needed additional forms. Speaking of which, does PA really only mail checks? @SouthFayetteFan @georgina who else are my PA peeps I didn’t see any direct deposit options. And I thought my state was as backwards as you can get.

I concur with @SouthFayetteFan, I've never once got a refund and don't know anyone who has. Even if you qualify for one of the limited deductions usually it just offsets your interest type earnings so you come out even or pay a little less than normal :)

Since you can pay through ETF/ACH I suspect that if you could have filed online they may have had an option to do a direct deposit (possibly), but with a paper return it'd be a paper check for sure. I'm just happy we can file and pay online for free. And it's so simple I always wondered who would pay the tax software to do state returns  I realize now we're sorta lucky in that regard.

After browsing the ebags site today, I've got an itch to order more travel bags... I'm not sure I love my new one as much as the old one yet...

packing cubes? I got into it with another group about packing cubes... they are rollers, im the only one that uses packing cubes...
when i went on my cruise 2 weeks ago, it made a huge difference since i was able to throw them into the cubby on the ship.

I’ve had to do Massachusetts and New York State returns for my sister and I’m always like...”what the heck is this!” They have all these credits, and questions and confusion...

PA state taxes are basically...income @ 3.07% which is withheld perfectly by your employer. If you have no interest or dividends filing is just a ceremony. If you have interest/dividends/1099s just put them in and pay the 3% and you’re done. No deductions or credits or any of that mess lol. Until I had done one these other states I didn’t realize how simple we had it lol!

Meant to post this earlier, momentarily forgot during the excitement of cc applications.

Over on the Disney GC deals thread we have another data point of a Metabank MCGC (this one from Meijer) coding as 1% in Plastiq. Remember Meijer has $10 off $150 MCGC, limit one per Mperks account though. Must hold out until 1 of my new cards arrives... (also must sign DH up for Mperks...)

:) PA is so backwards, not just in taxes, but in voting, etc! I am pretty sure DD got paper refund checks from them when we had to file her non-resident taxes. I usually just use any overpayment as 1st quarter estimated for us as we have no state withholding at all with DH retired. And I mail paper checks each quarter to cover those estimated taxes.

I have helped kids with CA and NY state taxes also, agree with SouthFayetteFan that they are more complicated!

I mail our PA returns also because they want copies of all our 1099-R's, make us fill out 2 schedule A's because our interest is not all earned jointly, and there is another form to prove I do not owe a penalty for paying my estimated taxes in non-equal installments. I use a 5x7 envelope for all that!

This is probably a silly question, but for those mailing taxes... Do you use a standard business envelope? Or a big one so your tax papers are flat?

I'm using a leftover xmas card envelop that is not a conventional business size and I am folding the papers to fit the envelop. I have to pay. I have to mail. I'm not wasting 1 extra penny on an envelop. Plus I was waiting until last minute.

DH currently has a Chase Ink Plus that I want to downgrade to no fee or cancel. Are there options to downgrade and should I look to do that or cancel? Not concerned about loosing ability to transfer UR as he was just approved for Chase Ink Preferred and has CSR and CSP (that we’ll downgrade to Freedom when AF comes due).

Any timing or sensitivity with Chase in terms of cancelling right before or after AF posts? I’m assuming within 30 days after fee posts would look better and less like churning to Chase?

You can deduct 529 contributions! For us that usually offsets our interest and 1099 income so we only end up owing like 150 bucks.

But if we didn’t have so much 1099 income we’d like get a PA refund after accounting for the 529 and since there’s no way to reduce withholding.
