Is SWGE impacting your trip? Discuss your plans here!

Not gonna lie, I'm regretting buying airfare for my Oct. 26-Nov. 2 trip. In too deep now, and changing everything around would be super expensive.

We're staying at Pop, which I love, but we thought we were being clever by booking before SWGE opened at all.

Since we're locked in now, however, I'm trying to look on the bright side, and just leaning hard into the planning. Hoping I'll be able to rope drop SWGE on a weekday and the rest of the parks will be the normal amount of slammed.

Looking for everyone's thoughts. Our trip was booked for 8/22 - 8/29. We are not going to be going to the parks on the 29th, and really don't want to be part of the madness of opening. Wanted everyone's thoughts though on when they expect crowds to pick up the day(s) prior to GE opening. Is the weekend before (8/24 & 8/25) going to be busy too? Thanks all.

We going the same dates I just got an alert regarding crowds from touring plans. Everything is going up. I have to reconfigure things to try and avoid the new worst parks. We changed our trip from Nov to August to avoid this and now we are right in the mists of it.

Just don't trip over them in front of the DHS gates that week on your way in and you'll be fine. ;)

Crowd levels bumped a bit on Touringplans for the days leading up to 8/29, but not enough to warrant any change in plans in my opinion.

TP is showing DHS at a 10, probably because their scale doesn't go any higher, but really, the rest of the predictions for the other parks don't look horrible.
But, we're staking thousands on what they're predicting. Do they really know? Or is this a once-in-a-lifetime type, crazy scenario no one can predict?

The modest rise TP is predicting for the other parks during the time around SWGE opening is concordant with my own beliefs about park crowds as well as common sense...I’d go with it.

Friday, Sept. 6th: TP only has HS as a 7 crowd level? I've read some other bloggers who talk about how far off TP is. I'm afraid I just don't trust them. But, to each his own. Not feeling like I want to risk thousands on their predictions. Fortunately, I only have a deposit on a room only reservation & can get my money back. I feel so bad for others who can't.

September will be really fun. Parks full of angry people who already booked flights and couldn’t change their plans. I’ll be one of them :crowded:
LOL, me too. It'll be hot as Hades, and now insanely crowded too. Jeeze, maybe we'll get a hurricane?

Now that I've had some time to process this bomb they've dropped, and to go through the stages of grief for the loss of any semblance of a pleasant vacation, I have to admit...I still haven't come in off the ledge. I still feel sucker punched. For 2 reasons. 1) SWGE effectively removes HS from my touring plan, I won't attempt to go near it on my 2 week trip. And it makes me angry that I'm getting even LESS value for my money now, as an entire park is no longer available to me. The value of my trip is already inherently compromised due to all the people and the lines they generate-lines for buses, lines for security, lines for food, lines for rides, lines in shops (sometimes even just to walk through!), lines for bathrooms, lines for characters, and waiting for spots for parades and fireworks. Can I expect to even get on 6 rides in a day (including FP)? Can't help but think I'm paying a ton of money to just...stand in lines, and spend more money. Add to this the emotional distress of being crammed in anywhere with a lot of hot, tired, entitled people...and I am also paying a premium to be run over with strollers and ECV's and to be yelled at by their operators. I was in MK on the 45th anniversary (crowd level 7/10) and I witnessed some of the ugliest human behavior that I have ever seen and experienced anywhere else in the (real) world. I never wanted to be in that environment again. And 2) I feel like Disney doesn't care about the quality of the guest experience anymore, not every guest anyway. The way they deliberately withheld SWGE opening date, and said it would be fall/late fall and then dropped it on us in the summer when those of us who are extremely adverse to crowds would be willing to travel...it feels like a personal affront. There seems to be only very few short windows for people like me to visit during the year anyway, but Disney is still actively trying to stuff the parks at those times too. I get it, they're a business, but I thought they were also one of the few businesses that truly valued the quality of the customer's experience. I see now that I was naive about that.

So, I have to avoid an entire park for my trip, and probably afternoons at all the others. I will have to hide out at AKL more than I intended (I know, first world probs, but still...). That's how SWGE will impact my trip. But I think I have also learned that this will be my last trip to Disney for a long time. WDW is not for those of us suffering from anxiety. We are clearly not welcome. I'm sorry, I wish I could see this another way but I'm just not there yet. I'm envious of those who can just brave the hordes, my life would be so much easier if I could do that.

The question was about the other parks. Of course, HS will be very very crowded. Remember that TP crowd levels are based on wait times not number of people standing around drinking blue milk

They don't know. This is unprecedented. We are just going to have to suck it up, whatever comes. Hopefully, nothing is coming, and this is all pointless fear!

Do I believe what I just said? No, but one can always hope.

Several Disney experts are predicting that the crowds at the other 3 parks should see minimal increase. So, DHS is lost, yes, but there's some hope that the other parks will be okay. In fact, some experts even say that DHS will be OK anywhere outside SWGE.

The experts could be right! :duck:Best of luck to you!

If you visit the SWGE hard ticketed event thread & read about all the ppl willing to dish out thousands to see the land & experience the attractions, IMO there is no way there won’t be crowds like nothing WDW has ever seen. Usually there are ppl on these boards complaining about too many hard ticketed events, not begging Disney to let them sign up to spend over $1000 for just one day in one.
