Is anyone cancelling a WDW trip or moving it up because of the early SWGE opening?

SWGE, to go or not to go during the opening month!?

Okay.........read the first page in this thread and some people are not happy. I'd be curious to know what the cancellation rate is.........also curious because this opening is during Free Dining which if you re-book I don't believe you'll be able to add it back on.

I think Disney thought this would be a good thing.......and for some (maybe many) it is. However, given what they originally indicated........this is impacting a bunch of folks in a negative way too.

It is a good thing for those who are waiting for it. But, there are many of us who had hoped to get in one last trip before crowds are likely changed forever. We had a trip booked Labor Day weekend but changed before this announcement just b/c July worked better for us. But, Sept was the last relatively low crowd time to go so many ppl had trips booked specifically for low crowds & are now blind-sided by this instead. I definitely understand their frustration!

I have a trip booked from September 12-17, on the free dining plan. I feel like i hit the lottery. On one hand, as a Star Wars fan - heck yes! On the other, as someone who enjoys lower crowds - oh no!

There's four of us and we're all in for it. We've got park hoppers so worst-case if it's just TOO MUCH we'll head elsewhere. I don't even care so much about getting on the ride. I'm honestly more interested in the snacks and drinks and other parts of the experience.

We are booked from August 26-31. Not canceling because it is the one week this year my husband can go on vacation. We were really looking forward to lower crowds than we’re used to, but it is what it is. We don’t normally spend a lot of time at DHS anyway and have zero interest in anything Star Wars. My plan was to spend the morning of the 28th at DHS. Hoping to do TSMM, Slinky Dog, and maybe ToT. We have lunch reservations at Sci Fi. Would you keep these plans or avoid this park all together the day before Star Wars opening?

Trip already planned for last two weeks of August. We're DVC and coming from Canada, and we're going as everything is booked and paid for. Glad to be staying at the Boardwalk, cause we can walk and won't need to take transportation to Hollywood Studios.

Any thoughts on what time people will try and line up at the opening gate for Hollywood Studios on Aug 29?

Me when they announced a Star Wars land would be coming to Disney: "I am staying FAR AWAY for a good TWO YEARS after that opens!"
Me 3 months after my last Disney trip: "So... let's go back early 2020. It'll be fine. Worst case scenario, we can hang by the pool."

;) I just cant stay away.

That’s true. Though companies that don’t let the cancellations go through would be the ones who get it, the renter is probably already locked in. THough direct renters you have a point lol.
I rent points and I wouldn’t allow a cancellation for this. For a rental, I’ve often borrowed points or used banked points—both of which would expire at the end of my use year. Also those points might have missed my banking deadline. Renting is a firm and final transaction that is not without risk.

You really think its a minority that are upset about this.........The issue is Disney promoted one date and people planned based on that.....and as Disney does that flipped the cart.

I really feel for those who aren't SW's fans and who booked Sept and Oct for lower crowds and who will now be in the eye of the storm.

Right. That’s the issue. Many ppl with trips booked then did it to avoid it & end up right at opening. Disney didn’t do it to please anyone either. They did it to boost the end of the fiscal year. They know it’s a low crowd time. They don’t want that.

Yep I 100% get it from your standpoint. If cancellations were allowed then the risk would make it not worth it from your end.

Ain’t that the truth! I suppose since they put up Halloween decorations in August, Fall has begun in Disney in their eyes. To heck with the real world.
Haha yes , if we had been going by Disney’s interpretation of Fall, then we wouldn’t be so surprised !

We're keeping our dates. Flights are booked, we already have hotel reservations near the airport for arrival and departure day, and moving it now would cost us way more than we can afford. we'll just make the best of it and adjust where we need to.

we are going 10/1 to 10/10 and this is my plan as well....I have no interest in star wars but would love to visit TSL....we shall see

I'm seriously considering rescheduling. Our trip is planned for the end of September, but I'm sure it's still going to be nuts. And with no FP+, there's no way in heck I'm waiting in lines with my kids.

I'm seriously considering it. I specifically booked the first week of September to avoid SWGE. I am so mad. Even if I scrap our day at DHS, there will definitely be spillover crowds in the other parks. But I've already booked flights and packages so I kind of feel trapped.

omg I just did the same thing! I've been lurking on this forum for 5+ years when planning a trip, but have never actually posted. I was assuming late fall meant like Oct, or that the opening would get pushed back a couple months for whatever reason. I haven't been to Disney in years and booked a trip for 8/31-9/8 hoping for low crowds and hot weather (I'm one of those people that doesn't mind temps >90 degrees). Luckily my family is actually Star Wars fans, otherwise I would be more upset. I guess it's kind of a blessing that we got such a good deal at Pop Century + Dining Plan for this time(?)

Obviously most of the people on forums like this are Disney enthusiasts and probably only reflect ~10% of the visitors, if that. So I guess it depends if the more casual visitors will book during this time... There's a lot of factors like school, work, cost (maybe hotels will be more now), and it's hard to say what the crowd will be like.

I hope you don't get too down about all this. I would hesitate before cancelling (Since you have months). There will never be as cheap of a deal in the future as you have currently planned. The other parks may be fine and are all excellent parks.

Even if I scrap our day at DHS, there will definitely be spillover crowds in the other parks.

I'm not buying it.

I think you're going to see a large influx of people the week of the opening coming from Florida and surrounding states who will be coming for day trips for the sole purpose of seeing SWGE. Especially with the fact that both rides won't be open right away, I don't think a ton of people are going to be booking full vacations, in March, for the back-to-school season.

This is a ploy by Disney to turn the low-low-low early fall season into a low early fall season for the purposes of closing out their fiscal year (end of September) stronger than the previous year. Does that mean crowds will be insane? Especially at the other three parks? I don't think so. My guess is instead of seeing September-like crowds, we'll see the old January/early Feb crowds we used to see where most days are 2s, with a few 3s and maybe a mid-week 1 sprinkled in there.

I think a lot of people are freaking out over nothing.
