New video and information released about the Disney Skyliner!

They are still saying 'Fall 2019' for opening. I can't wait to the nail down an actual date!

I'm guessing they're going to continue saying "Fall 2019" until they have a solid opening date. With a few dozen gondolas already on site and being loaded on the system, it's hard to imagine just *what* is going to make it take until "Fall 2019" for this to open. I know they still have some construction at the stations and there will be weeks if not months of testing and training, but I think this will be open on some level (maybe limited hours or something) by early-mid summer. (I have zero insider information -- I'm just going on my intuition/hunch. :) ) And even though I'm terrified of heights and I don't like being in confined spaces, I'm looking forward to riding this the next time we stay at Pop or AoA (see how I brought the post back on topic? :D )

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Pop. I always enjoy reading other people’s experiences so I thought I’d share mine.

Pro’s:
-Clean! Everything felt/looked nice and clean.
-Updated rooms are great. We loved the simple/modern look and abundance of charger outlets.
-Shower: I seriously wanted to bring this home with me. The rain shower was so relaxing after a long park day.
-Beds: very comfortable!
-Food court: Serious upgrade from POFQ IMO. So many choices and all the food was fresh.

Con’s:
-It felt like everything was such a long walk from the room. The reusable mug was pretty much useless this trip because no one wanted to haul their way back to the food court for a refill on tired feet. I didn’t realize just how massive this place is until seeing it in person!
-Buses: Same thing-I knew they’d be a far walk at the parks based on reviews, but those extra steps after a 26,000 step day can be painful. Our wait times weren’t bad overall, so that part is a pro!
-Noise: it’s as loud as described in other posts. Even staying on the uppermost floor with our white noise app blasting, we heard a ton of plumbing and neighbor noises.

Overall: We’d absolutely stay here again! The pro’s outweigh the cons and the price is right.

Do you mind sharing where your room was located? When we were last there (2012), we stayed in a corner room near Mowgli and Baloo and the giant yo-yo (in the back, left side of the 60s section). We didn't think the walk was bad at all. I know it really does depend on where your room is located. We just booked again and requested a similar area, but I told the CM we didn't want to stay in the 80s or 90s because those are far away to me.

I don’t have a solution to the neighbor issues, but I discovered the noise from plumbing in nearby rooms (or even those at the end of the hall, it seems) is reduced quite a bit by keeping both doors to the bathroom closed. I had one night where I hardly slept. I was up all night long listening to toilets flush! The following night I closed the doors to the bathroom area, and it was much more restful.

Happy to hear you enjoyed your trip!

Each person is different but if I’m given a room in building 2, 7 or 8 I ask to be moved closer if at all possible. Even with cutting across the parking lot (when in buildings 7 or 8) I found the walk was uncomfortably far after long days in the park.

And this is where people's preferences at this place can vary so much because I request top floor in building 2. The first time I went my request was close to transportation and quiet and I got a room on the 3rd floor of building 2 over looking the trees and the parking lot. I really liked it so this past trip I requested Bldg 2 and top floor which I got with a nice view of the lake and the fireworks. My Aug trip I also put in the same request and am hoping I get it. It does seem there's not many people on here that like the 50s so I think that probably helps me and my standard room :) I'll check in early so hopefully they'll know what building I'm in like the last trip so if it's one I don't want I can ask to be moved elsewhere.

I agree, I was watching the video today and cannot figure out how it won't be open until Fall.

Learned that lesson our first visit to Pop when we got the furthest room in building 7 :crazy2: The kids didn't complain surprisingly but it was a bit of a haul to get a cup of coffee in the morning! Our second Pop trip was the back of building 4 and so much nicer!

I figure for our adults trip I am just going to ask to be near transportation - though I don't imagine people will be paying for preferred with a pool view when I go in January with the hippy dippy pool being closed anyway.

LOL, that’s the only time those rooms would be appealing to me. ;)

Looking at the on line check in. Is ground floor not a bookable option? Booked a standard room the choices where highest floor, lake view garden view section (50 60 70 etc) near stairs.Presently at 63 days. Will options change after day 60? Or call or fax request a few days before arrival?

You are best to call in you requests. Options will not change at 60 days.

Ground floor, or any specific floor, is not a bookable option but they can be requested. Like @scrappinginontario stated, just call the Main Reservations line and add any room requests to your reservation. This can be done any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out. When within that time frame makes no difference.

We were in building 2 on one trip and it felt like such a hike to the food court and buses. If we had been driving everywhere it would have been an awesome location because that parking lot was relatively empty and there were always open spots right by the building. But walking from the bus stop felt like miles at the end of the night. That was a trip that we paid to keep our refillable mugs in a locker by the pool every day so we didn't have to walk all the way to the room and then back to the food court for refills when we got back to the resort each night. It didn't help that we had pouring rain almost all day every day of that stay and our previous stay was in an awesome location in the 60's that was much closer to the food court and bus stops. On our next stay at Pop we were originally assigned rooms in Building 2 again and as soon as my husband and kids heard the CM say the location they all groaned. Fortunately, the CM was able to move us to a great location in Building 9 for that stay.

I am reading this as referring to the location of the Pop stops at the PARKS being the furthest out, not the walk from their room to the bus stop at the resort

Ooo... I like the mug! I've been to Disney twice and wanted to get a coffee mug both times but never found one I liked. Hope it's still there in May!

That’s funny, catching up on this thread, drinking from the same mug, trying to warm up after my failed attempt to get my dog to go out in -17 F (-42 F windchill). :rotfl:

It’s probably my favorite and most used mug. I got mine during our June 2017 trip, so I would say the chances are pretty good they will still be there.

Do you think there will be so much "interest" in Disney Skyliner when it opens(I am thinking early to mid-Summer(the official Fall date seems WAY too long for how far into the project they are at now!))that, for a while, they will limit access to Guests of POP and the other 3 Resorts with MagicBands being scanned in order to ride?:)

Doubtful, IMO. The capacity is so high, it shouldn't be necessary to limit, and Disney wants people riding it, it will spread the guests out more and give another "ride" for the crowds to try.

I think it will be extremely popular and they will not restrict it in any way. I can see many choosing to ride it just to try it out as it’s an exciting new form of transportation and vantage point to look at Disney.

I think people will specifically step out the back of Epcot or out of DS just to ride it. I mean after all that sort of transport was at one time literally a ride in the park. On no other type of onsite transportation have I ever seen anyone asked for proof they were staying on site. So yeah there will be a lot of folks just checking it out.

As far as room preferences go we like the 70's because the walk is close to transport and food court. We stayed 3rd floor midway right next to the Big Wheel and loved it.

Busses from the Parks back do seem to be the farthest stop away and yes that was no fun but at least when we got back to PoP the walk to the room was thankfully short.

Looking at the rooms there doesn't seem to be any place to sit with the second bed down. Are there areas in the resort where I can sit in peace and read the paper, be online with my laptop etc.?
There are also umbrella-topped tables with chairs near the pool... for sure the 80's/90's pool. I'm assuming all of them would have something similar.

We have a preferred room booked at pop. Where are the preferred rooms located? Thanks! This will be our first stay at this resort.
