Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Thanks CM12. I don't want to get upgraded but the other family that just booked was looking to be close to us.

If the reservations are linked would Disney attempt to put us close together even though one family has preferred and the other standard?

I would imagine Disney’s room assigners do everything possible to put people booked in different categories whose reservations are linked nearby if at all possible. If at check-in your rooms are really far apart, you can ask at the desk if there is any way your whole party can be closer together. If you wouldn’t mind moving after one night to make this happen, you can let them know. It’s possible a room that wasn’t available the day you check in will become available the following day.

One time when we were upgraded (staying at the Contemporary), the rest of our family (in another room) was not upgraded. It was inconvenient that we weren’t nearby, but we were happy to be upgraded (it was to a club level suite!!).

Unfortunately Disney neglected to factor in somewhere to sit and eat when the bed is opened. What we do now is grab a couple of trays from the cafeteria and use those while we sit on the bed. Lots of pillows at your back and you have a nice comfy chair. The trays come in handy for our stays.
We do the same. If you want to keep the trays (for the duration of your stay), though, put them in a drawer so that housekeeping doesn’t return them to the food court. I use them on the table for holding random things. Then when it’s time to put the bed down, I can just grab the tray and put it on a chair instead of moving lots of individual items.

Thanks again for your insight. If we aren't that close we will survive. I just wanted to have some kind of idea what our chances would be.

That was a great upgrade you got at the the Contemporary. I'm sure you really enjoyed that.:duck:

The beds are really easy and quick to put up and down, but when my daughter is still sleeping I like to hang out at an umbrella table by the Hippy Dippy pool or the foodcourt. The foodcourt often gets a bad rap for being noisy and chaotic, but there are plenty of tables and I find it easy to find a quieter out of the way table and relax. :goodvibes
That is my concern. I'm usually up for an hour or so before the rest of my family and usually sit with my laptop until they wake up on their own.

I apologize if this has been asked a million times...

How comfortable is the table bed in comparison to the actual bed?

If you like to read in bed, the Murphy is better because it has an angled headboard, and the mattress can't slide off the end of the bed. Sometimes the mattress on the regular bed slides around on the platform. But as far as sleeping comfort, I have slept on both several times and they feel the same.

Just booked our room at POP for early February 2020! Just FYI, the CM on the phone mentioned that the Hippy Dippy Pool will be closed for refurbishment starting in January 2020. I knew about this already but wasn't sure if others planning to go in 2020 knew about it. This is what Disney's website officially says:

"Beginning winter 2020, the Hippy Dippy Pool will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, you can still make a splash at our Bowling Pool and Computer Pool—while little dippers can enjoy our kiddie pool. Also, Petals Pool Bar will be closed and Movies Under the Stars will be offered in an alternate location. You may notice construction noise while this refurbishment is underway, but the noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00 AM."

So you might want to take that into account when trying to figure out what room/area you're booking.

Are the drink stations at PC available 24 hours? I've seen conflicting information.

Definitely not. I've heard the ones at the All Stars resorts are, so that could be where you are seeing conflicting information. Pop's beverage stations are located inside the food court, which is connected to the gift shop. They close the whole thing up by midnight and open again, I think, at 6 AM.

are there any standard rooms in the 60's section?

If not where would the standard rooms be located? Our family is booked in the preferred rooms while the other family that just booked couldn't get a preferred room with the free dining plan.

Wondering how far apart we might be.

You can be very far apart. The preferred rooms can be in the 50s while the standard rooms in the 80s. It doesn't hurt for both of you to request to be in the same building, however. That is, decide on a building, (I'd say your best bet is the 50s), then both call to ask to be in that building. Whatever you do, don't give up the free dining!!!

Looking at the rooms there doesn't seem to be any place to sit with the second bed down. Are there areas in the resort where I can sit in peace and read the paper, be online with my laptop etc.?
Not during meal times, I'd say the food court, inside or out. When the weather is good, along the lake where there are benches with garbage cans next to them. (Some people go there to smoke, but most of the time it's quiet.) Although I don't know how good the wifi is by the lake.
Meal times means something like:
8am to 1030am
8pm to 1030 pm.
Lunch time is always quiet.

Where it isn't quiet:
The lobby -- there are always a ton of people, even in the middle of the night.
The main pool and quiet pools
(I've been to other hotels such as Beach Club or Caribbean Beach where the quiet pool is very quiet, but Pop isn't one of them.)

I forgot to mention: All pool areas are quiet when they are closed. Pools are normally open from 9am to 11 p.m. You can sit by the pool at night after it closes. In the morning, they do cleaning so you won't be able to sit there during cleaning, but the rest of the time should be fine. Pool areas have good wifi. Also in the morning, even after the pool opens, it's quiet for about an hour until enough people come to swim.

I would recommend calling and advising them that you would like your rooms close together if possible. Add your reservation number to their request and vice versa.

Even if you are both staying in the same style (standard, preferred, etc.) it is only a request and not guaranteed. The best thing to do is the linking and if you're not close together you can go to the desk and see if they are able to move either/both of you.

One trip we went with my brother and SIL and even though our reservations were linked together we were in the 60's and they were in the 90's. We went to the desk and requested to be closer together. In the end they stayed 1 night in the 90's but then were moved to a room in the 60's closer to us.

It's always just a request but CM's will do their best to meet your requests.

Well after much consideration we have decided to stay at pop again. We were thinking of staying at CSR this year. But honestly for the two weeks it was another 1250.00. But after staying at a deluxe a few years in a row we just decided we would rather put the money towards a few TS meals, H2O nights and a desert part, MNSSHP or AH. We do have free QSDP which we booked as a bounce back but we do enjoy doing a few TS meals just not one every day! It get to be to much scheduling for us. We aren't in the room a ton and with the queen beds and the remodel the room actually seemed bigger last year. We love POP I was hoping to get a pefered pool view but nothing has been available for my dates since day one.
