Storybook Dining at Artist Point Watch Thread!

Yeah that one is pretty dramatic. Someone in here recently referred to it as catered wedding food and that, plus some of the less dramatic yet still negative reviews on Trip Adviser, plus reading between the lines of everyone saying one and done, has lead to me canceling for this Saturday. For the cost of the dinner we can do something else we may enjoy more. Maybe next time when our visit isn’t so short!
I would say it is like a better catered wedding. Better than buffet quality but not as good as made to order. But would you expect that kind of a menu be? A made to order restaurant has longer wait times for food and different flow than a character meal. IMO you'll never see them together. But the food was tasty and it was a very enjoyable evening. That said if I was short on time and didn't care about the characters that much I might just save it til later too!

The characters only interact if you want them too I actually saw a couple tell them politely no thank you...and they just waved and walked by. Me and Snow White had a whole conversation on Gooseberry pie!

I would say if your going solely for the food...ehhhh id hit up something else. For me the whole meal is the characters with some nice food, however based purely on food, ehhhh...
Agree - if we weren’t excited about Evil Queen and the Dwarfs (sorry Snow, but we met her many times!), we would go out of the way to WL to do this meal. As it stands though, we are looking forward to it!

to be honest I would not do it just for the food. IMO it doesn't rate the price on food alone. Food + Characters given other Disney prices, yes. But food alone, for your $55/person before tax you can do a lot better on food elsewhere. I'd take the boat to the contemporary for a meal at CA Grill - that won't buy you a 3 course dinner but it would buy a couple of entrees! Or if you want to stick to WL do the territory lounge. The smoked mushroom bisque and berry cobbler are two old AP classics.

We did brunch at California Grill on Marathon weekend a couple weeks ago, and literally everything I tried tasted fantastic. Of course that could be all the miles we ran talking, but still.

It sounds like we need to just take AP off the list and look at other options. Thanks for the help!

Greetings,

We have a 5:20 reservation here in a few weeks. Can you get in and out in an hour?
Thanks.

Well our server said he was there to guide us on our "next 60 minute adventure"! We were taken aback as we were unaware of the time restraints for dinner. LOL We had a good chuckle but yes were in and out in an hour and a half with characters so yeah I think it is possible if you say you are in a rush.

FWIW Disney has a diamond (pun intended) on their hand as far as character meals go! Outstanding meal with best character interaction we have had in some time.

It took us over 2 hours and that was just to get the food, not waiting for characters.

Was this on a holiday or weekend with that length of time? What time of the evening? If so, I may wait for another trip......

I can't seem to get a ressie on 3/27 for 2. I went ahead and booked Narcoosee's. Is it worth me trying for this ressie?

The Touring Plans reservation finder tool has come through for a lot of folks looking for this one, if you’re interested I’d set up a watch there and keep an eye out.

I can’t speak to whether it’s worth it, we haven’t gone yet (and are still waffling ourselves, my main concern is that a long evening sit down meal isn’t going to go over well with my young kids).

Mostly enjoyed our dinner here last night. Our ADR was for 8:30; when we checked in we were told they were running about 10 minutes late, which was accurate. We enjoyed the food; both of us had the prime rib, and it had a very good flavor and minimal fat and waste. We also liked the smoked carrots, didn’t think they were overly smoky at all, and we loved the soup.

The only negative issue was that different areas of the kitchen weren’t synced. We sat for some time before the appetizers were served; in fact, Snow White, Dopey and Grumpy all visited us before the appetizers came. But then we had just started on the first one when our entrees came! Of course we politely sent them back and let our server know. Then lo and behold, we had just started the second appetizers when a different kitchen server appeared with our entrees! Again we sent them back and spoke to our server and the manager, and our entrees didn’t appear again until we let our server know we were ready for them. Same for the desserts.

Possibly due to the delays, we had to line up to visit the Queen before we finished dessert - we were informed she was leaving soon. But we didn’t feel rushed after we returned to our table. We enjoyed our desserts as well as coffee and left about 10:30.

We are looking forward to doing this on our next trip. Just a note in my humble WDW loving opinion, use the reviews you see as a tool. I would miss out on some fantastic meals if I let negative reviews stop me. If you are on the fence, look up reviews of places you already know you love. If the negative reviews don't change your mind there, make up your mind based on what you already know your family likes, and dislikes. :)

I booked dinner here recently for our trip at the end of March. It was an impulsive ADR; I was browsing through the list of restaurants available and it had availability so I grabbed it. But now I see that they are NOT on the TiW list. I'll keep an eye out for a potential discount. They may not be added to TiW just yet.

the Edison was not listed on the TIW when we went there but they accepted the card when we went. You never know

These comments about time are sort of comical to me. Clearly Disney is not going to kick anyone out at 60 min. That is being said to make sure folks know it's not a quick meal, not because you have a time limit to eat.
And advice to any who think they are being rushed, ignore them. I know you are capable of ignoring, especially if you have kids or a significant other ;)
So if anyone is trying to make you rush, ignore! No one can make you do anything, unless they are going to grab your arm and walk you out. And we all know they are NOT going to do that. The only time there would be an exception in my mind is if it's the end of the night and you are the only table, and all the others have already had the chairs stacked on top. Then yeah, you may want to hurry on out. LOL

I have some questions about the character interaction. We have a reservation at BRV for December (yes, it's a long way away, but most of the fun is in the planning.) Aside from an afternoon at the Poly followed by a MVMCP, and possibly a dinner at Victoria & Albert's, we're planning on staying close to the resort, taking it easy and enjoying everything WL has to offer. Of course we'll probably end up eating at Roaring Fork and Geyser Point at least once, and Whispering Pines is one of our favorite breakfast spots. But we're a little on the fence about Artist Point with the Storybook Dining. We're just one adult couple, no kids, and aren't really interested in meeting characters or taking pictures with them. We had breakfast at CRT once, the princesses all came by and said hello, and we politely declined when they asked if we wanted to take pictures. Does this work the same way? Or is it hard to get that point across with the characters who can't really speak? Or is it easier just to take a quick picture and let them move along? I really like the idea of sitting off in a corner somewhere and watching the interactions/performance/whatever, but not participating. Is there an area of the dining room that's good for that? Or, maybe, a good time to be seated, when we can have the characters all come by early in the meal, and then be done with it?

The menu and food presentation looks really interesting, the dining room looks charming, the characters are new and fun, and we've never eaten at Artist Point before. And I love being able to leave the room we're staying in and walk just a few steps to dinner. And it'll be the only "nicer" restaurant in the MK resort area that we haven't tried yet. But if the character interaction is the main reason to eat there, would we be better off going somewhere else?
Yes you can get points across to character. They may not speak but they can hear just fine.
That said, DH and I go to character meals as just the 2 of us and I do enjoy photos with the characters. We only pick character meals where we like/love the characters as all in all, character meal food is never worth a special trip. That's not what they have these meals for, after all.

I'm so happy to see mostly positive reviews on here. I was looking at Trip Advisor and there were lots of horrible ones, including one who said the food was so bad that she wanted to vomit at the table. I know it's not 5 **, however I can't see anything being that terrible.
Eh, Trip Advisor is really the worse place for reviews any more. I don't believe a single one of them, frankly. People LOVE to get on there and trash places and so often they have not even been there. It's like they earn think if the get online and trash places they'll earn a badge or something

That said, as I mentioned above, no Character Meal is a 5* dining experience. They are just eh for food. Food is not why folks book them.

Possible to eat in that time but you may miss a character if you truly have to walk out in 1 hour. They do come and go and have breaks and if you have the misfortune of being seated in an area they just finished with it could be more than an hour before they come back around.
