Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

Basically, one truck load, maybe 2 of gondolas.
I guess the telling thing will be if that number doubles in a day or two. That would signify most of the fleet has arrived and is stored out of sight.
Wondering if they are arriving from the manufacturer wrapped(character wrap) and ready to run? Reason for the question is if the protective wrap is from Dopplymeyer or from local disney. There could be a bunch off site getting wrapped, before being loaded into the terminal.

That is a good question. I think the original red cabin didn't arrive with the characters on it and those were put on later.

Wonder if wrapping a cabin is the same series of steps as wrapping a monorail? Thinking that Disney has experienced staff on hand to apply a wrap. Have to think a small cabin would be much easier...

How about 150-ish small cabins? I guess if they do them 12 at a time, it's not such a monumental task. I'm so anxious to see more of the designs for real vs. in the concept art!

Practically, I'm thinking Dopplymeyer would ship them painted in the base colors we can see despite the protective wrap.
The disneyfied character wrap I would think would be installed in Florida by disney staff, and would be minimal.
If it were a full wrap, you wouldn't go to the effort of painting the cabins several different colors.

There should be a marked per vehicle weight limit, that is standard on Gondolas. Doesn’t mean it has to be followed, for example the gondola I was on this morning, which is a Doppelmayr with brand new cabins, has a 705 lb limit for 4 people.

That number seems awfully low to me, and I also honestly don't think that if there's a marked weight limit for these things that any customer of Doppelmayr would be routinely overloading cabins with more weight than what is listed - among other things, that would likely leave them open to massive lawsuits if something were ever to happen. I could maybe see a 705 kg limit for a 4 person lift, any chance it was that instead?

The only information I could find kinda implied that for what I think these gondolas are (without having read enough through to know the exact model) would be something like around an 1800kg carrier weight including payload - so the whole thing including people would be max 1800kg. No idea what the weight of the gondola itself actually is, but it wouldn't really surprise me if it comes in a lot lower than most people would expect. 1800kg is around 4000 pounds, and I wouldn't be surprised if the gondola itself is under 1000 pounds, which would leave around 3000 pounds for people weight.

Question for the experts here. What would you say the chances of the Skyliner being open by Sept 26th?
Closer to 0%, or closer to 100%?

Thank you,

I am 100% certain it is 705 lbs not kgs. And it in fact it used to be 707 lbs. It is a very common point of conversation within these Gondolas, and many others at other resorts.

These cabins also weigh about 460 lbs.

While the cabins have a capacity, the total number of cabins on the line is another capacity consideration for total weight on the system at one time.

Aren't there going to be some with characters and some without? The link this morning about the new mock ups of the Riviera showed one of each in the drawing.

I was going to mention the same thing @Tigger's ally. This morning's updated pics of the Riviera station appear to have more unwrapped cars than wrapped cars unless they only wrap the side that does not have the doors on it. That could make a difference as most of the gondolas in the pictures are showing the side with the door. The front and back of them do not appear to have wraps on them. The pictures I remember from the original announcement seemed to show the wraps on the front and back of the gondola but today's updated picture shows it on the side also.

LOL, all I know is that if we're lined up to board one that has the Haunted Mansion characters on it, I've promised my DD that we'll let someone go in front of us as they scare her. I'm totally okay with this. :)

Wait... so how many Disney tourists and/or ECVs are theoreticallly supposed to fit in each one?

ETA: I just went back through the thread and PP was referring to a smaller model — that the Disney ones are larger — maybe 2-3 times the weight limit.
