I love credit cards so much!

Ack, got my lovely instant approval this morning, and decided to try for DH for the Arrival Plus. Got the "your application is being reviewed message" :-(. Now what? Do they have a status number/page? He sure isn't going to call that's for sure. Neither of us currently has any Barclays cards, closed them both in the last year. He is at 4/24.

We had a bit of storm damage on Dec 1st that requires the replacement of our roof. It came in at about 10,000 bucks. We deemed it a good time to meet some min spend and get signup bonuses. We choose the Barclays Arrival Plus. Hers flew through and mine got held up. On New Year's Day I was sitting in a duck blind and Barclays called up and just asked if I made the request and I said yes and it was approved. Two cards on the same address seemed to flag the second application. My Brother and other hunting partners made the call interesting by blowing their duck calls in the background. The CSR was just laughing about it. This basically paid for a 4 day stay at Disneyland Paris on Resort, we'll use the RER to go into Paris proper. We have the CSR, but we'll use this in Europe as a true chip and pin card in case it is needed plus at places where the CSR only gets 1x as the Barclays gets 2x. We figure we'll get enough spend on both over there to pay for a trip to LA from my son's 16th in October to check out Hollywood Haunted Nights and Galaxy's Edge.

2 totally unrelated questions

1. For anyone recently approved for CIC, how long did it take to get your card?

2. Any Disneyland peeps know how much the VIP tours cost? How long and do they include a park hopper ticket or is that separate? @Albort ? Was thinking of doing this one day for our 2020 trip which is DSs choice for his 5th grade “graduation”

In October it took about 10 days for mine to arrive

American Airlines experts--any way to prevent point from expiring today? I just realized my daughter has about 4000 points that will expire today. Can I purchase something through the AA portal? Dining? Donate? Something else that will credit today? Obviously it's not large sum of points but it seems worth a small effort not to lose them.

*I reserve the right to change all plans...multiple times...between now and when I leave, lol!

Haha. That is how it goes (for us at least). Multiple plans lead to the plan in place when we arrive. And then reality always looks a little different. And I enjoy all of it!

Yes, when I looked it was not worth my time. I'm pretty lazy about this stuff. Mostly go after low hanging fruit like the Amex gold card where I know it will work long term and has a good start up.

And, right this minute, because I can ditch this idea and switch gears in a millisecond - I'm waiting to go back under 5/24 and pick up all the UR's I can and that will take me until late next year.

Meanwhile I'm looking at DD's 800+ (the younger one) credit score, her good paying job, and her well established credit that I've helped her nurse along since she was 13, and I want to talk her into a few more cards. But that's an uphill and then some, battle. I have a son with the same credentials and he's not going to budge that I can see. Both are super conservative and savers. Getting them to make a little dent in this hobby would satisfy my lust for points, even if I didn't get a penny! I should just be thankful they are how they are. Maybe I should talk to them about FIRE? That might appeal in a certain way.

My daughter and her husband are the same savers maxing out retirement accounts etc....which is great but also will not open more cards..they had a BOA rewards and Chase SW...the only card I was able to talk them each into opening last year was Disney since they got the $200 statement credit after spending $500. They bought a house 2 years go, credit scores are well over 800...they think opening more cards will tank their scores.
They will retire early since SIL has mandatory retirement at 56, since he’s an air traffic controller

The offer I chose was the dummy booking offer on the CitiBusiness AA - 40k AA miles + $250 statement credit for $2k MSR. Looking to get it matched for an additional 20k miles (total 60k then). You can only use that offer the first time around then - subsequently you have to find targeted offers with no 24mo. restriction and I think those are mostly 75k for $5k spend.

Not on the train at this point, but definitely watching, following along, and trying to learn. I have a bunch of AA miles and wouldn't mind having more.

All that AA talk, prompted me to look at my account. Yeah, on the phone with them now, someone with my name just took a flight with almost all my miles last week!

OMG!

I think it may have started as an honest mistake, but booking this flight was definitely fraud. She didn't earn enough in flight miles for even one ticket, much less 2. She booked two flights to Nashville last week for her and her husband, I assume anyway same last name. And this is the first time the actual information in the account was changed, address, email, phone. AA did say that the account was flagged last week for investigation, but nothing was done yet. Now, whether or not that was AA catching something, or her contacting them to say I was the fraud, I do not know.

Edited to add, I still have on idea how she logs in, when it's still my username and password and my AA number.

Maybe she called in? That could get her around your password I think? I was wondering if she really thought this was her account, but it sounds like she knows that it's not. How awful. :( I'm really glad you caught this. Let us know how AA deals with it - I hope they fix it soon.

Yikes! Yes, go through their shopping portal and buy something online. I learned that through this thread. But since it's today, I don't know if that's soon enough??? I hope someone else chimes in with more info.

I have heard of hotel points being stolen but not airline miles. @elgerber hope you get it sorted out quickly!
So far, they gave me a new AA number, to which I opened a new online account. Of course there are no points in there yet, but she said they are going to investigate and move the points that belong to me, into that new account. I told them all the flight miles earned are hers, but all the credit card/dining miles are mine (which was 80% of the miles in the account).

I don't know if that would post soon enough either? Maybe buy some miles? Looks like the cheapest is $59, but I would guess that would credit faster, and then she would have 6000 miles :-)

Wow, sorry you have to deal with this. I don't check my miles often. Now to start a spreadsheet with all my points/miles just to be sure.

The Delta offers are pretty sad right now. I did a 60k points + $50 statement credit for delta purchase. Which reminds me, I need to sell the $50 gc I bought! I’d definitely wait for a better offer. I did the delta gold biz
Do you have a Delta account? Wondering because I set up a Delta account last year when I first flew with them. I've gotten 2 mailers in the last 2 months for 75K miles. Maybe if you already have a Delta card, they aren't targeting you for mailers.

I am. Two Personals every 60 days and business every 95 for both myself and wife.

Only using the 40k/$3k offers that I can get matched to 60k for personal and 75k/$5k for business. On pace for 24 personals for 1.44mil/$72k spend and 8 business for 600k/$40k spend for a 12 month span (over 2 mil total for $112k)
Wow, just wow.:worship: Very impressive.

Is anybody in our group churning AA cards? Are people looking for personal, business, or both offers? I'm continuing to read up on this personally as it could become a minor part of my 2019 strategy and just want to know who else wants to be kept up to speed on things if I find anything out OR anything changes.
I'd be looking for business offers first. DS just received a personal mailer that I may use but not sure as it will eat into my 5/24 (only 3/24 right now).

Count me in for anything AA please and thank you.

Well - I respect @calypso726's comment about HEA not being the same as Wishes from the room BUT we are definitely watching fireworks from the room because it's part of why the MK view room was on the "Disney bucket list".

Rivers of Light was a perfectly nice show...but not a "must do" for us on this trip. I could see us watching that show every 2-3 trips (similar to what our attitude was towards IllumiNations - whereas HEA, Fantasmic, and SW fireworks are an every trip thing for us).

I think I've decided to skip RoL and watch HEA from our room that evening which puts me into option 3 or 4. In addition to the show not being a must do, the other reason I'm leaning towards this is because if we rope drop MK on Wednesday AND then stay out until 10pm for EMH (with an afternoon break in there), and then rope drop AK on Thursday (we rope drop every day), do I really want to be in a park until 8pm that day...If we leave AK by 6:30 we can have a nice evening and get to bed early after the fireworks (or go ride the monorail to Poly for a Dole Whip, LOL!)

That leaves me with watching HEA in the park on Wed or Fri. If weather looks bad for either night we will watch it on the opposite night. If weather looks good both nights then I'm leaning towards riding during the EMH on Wed and watching HEA from the hub on Friday.

Somehow in my skimming your post and in my response I failed to take in that you were definitely seeing HEA in the park and it wasn’t an either park viewing or room viewing choice for HEA. Chalk it up to my head spinning while starting the crossing of the Drake passage  Holy nausea Batman!

As long as you do see it in the park then a room viewing is icing on that cake. Apologies for not reading more carefully. I was trying to keep myself distracted from the rocking and rolling of the ship. I’ll share an announcement on ship about crossing the Drake passage: “Do not place fragile items on surfaces any higher than the floor. If they are already on the floor then they can’t fall to the floor”

:P :P Check my plan...I am only counting on two "self" referrals for a total of 30k in that figure.
40k my friend, 40k.

@hsmamato2 , @LynnTH , @pillow , @Mopedmom1 , @calypso726 , @mmmears , @CyndiLouWho Thanks for starting or adding to all the Alaska talk. Planning something for 2021 possible. Saving all this to go in the Alaska information I am saving.
I was there in 2018 also- it's incredible. Not a "churning" destination as only the Marriott in Anchorage is points friendly (but who wants to stay in anchorage for more than a day or 2?). But still worth a trip for sure.
