I love credit cards so much!

If the goal is airfare and hotels, I'd go CSR. While the Plat earns 5x on air purchased directly from an airline, it does not earn more than 1x on hotel bookings that aren't done through the Amex site. The CSR also has the advantage of earning 3x on a much broader category of travel and also on dining (also a broad category). Plus the CSR $300 travel credit can be used on a much broader range of charges than the Plat airline fee reimbursement. That being said, I have both CSR and Plat, love them both and plan to keep both, but if I was forced to choose between the two, I'd choose CSR.
Thanks. I told DH about the CSR when he mentioned the Plat. A coworker has the Plat. Maybe he could do CSR now, and Plat next year. The 4k MS on the CSR is more doable for us than the 5k. We have a Dis trip in the spring and I think the spend could be made up pretty close by using the card for tickets, hotel and park dining, if I can time the card arrival just right, not sure that's possible as I need the tickets about 75 in advance to feel safe I have them in time to book fastpasses.

I also have a UR question. My understanding is that UR's are worth $.01 each, but when I use the Chase Pay app, it shows 33,517 points, but a dollar value of $268.13. Does that make sense? :confused3 Shouldn't it be $335.17? I'm so confused by this. Thank you!

Don't pay with points!! It's 1 cpp if you cash out (actual cash or statement credit) but if you do other things with them it can vary now that they added all these pay with points options. So first off it is almost like a convenience fee reducing your value if you pay directly through Chase pay or the Apple store, etc on the Portal, but then on top of that you're not earning any new points on the purchase - so it's like a double tax.

Not everyone notices that, so good that you were observant; that's how they get you. Chase took a page out of AmEx's book there.

Ok that explains it, thank you! Yep, definitely paranoid any time I use ChasePay that I'll accidentally use points so I always double check it.

I believe not everyone got the email but it was open to CSP and possible C.F. card holders? Not sure on the C.F. since we only have a CSP. I think there was a post on DOC about it, but it was discussed here too a while ago.

Yes, back when I was showing and breeding we did sell the puppies to carefully screened homes. But for all responsible breeders it is very different than the idea of an investment. In our circle you don't get to have a puppy from one of us just because you have the money to buy one. I'm not sure if it is like that with horses.

My process and just about everyone I know, required an application online and if I liked what I saw then a phone interview. If the phone interview was good then everyone in the prospective family had to come and meet me and the 4 legged crew. If that went well, then we could proceed with a deposit and go over the 5 page contract that detailed their and my obligations and responsibilities with regards to the welfare and care of their new furry family member, aka, my grandpuppy. Show quality puppies were kept by me or placed with qualified show homes that had good referrals. This all took place before the puppies were born and I turned away many more families than I would allow to get on a waiting list. The puppies were my responsibility for life and always have a home with me, no questions asked, if circumstances for their new family changed. As a responsible breeder, I was also obligated to be there for those families whenever they needed support, advice on health, nutrition, training etc. I don't get to walk away from that the way I would if it was a car I sold. When the day eventually comes that they are faced with saying goodbye to the dog that has brought them joy and wonderful memories, grew up with their children has now crossed the rainbow bridge and left a gaping hole in their lives they are heart broken, then I'm the one they call. They need to be able to cry and reminisce with someone who understands, it's not "just a dog."

I think it's a lot more personal with showing dogs than it is with horses. It's definitely not an investment. I wish. Dog sowing and responsible breeding is a money pit. I was lucky to break even most years. There were some that I never could or would place because they had a firm grasp of my heart and soul. Two of them were Golden Retrievers and one was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I also showed and bred Cavaliers briefly but couldn't do proper justice splitting my time and effort in two breeds so I stuck with Goldens.

Thanks for the insight! I guess I should clarify that by "investment," I simply mean selling one is the means to get myself another horse. It is DEFINITELY a money pit! But we were able to sell my last horse and get both DH and myself a horse this time, so for us that's a success.

Our selling process generally isn't as detailed, but it just really depends on the type of horse owner you are. Plenty of people sell their horses online/FB/etc. and it's completely normal and there are seldom issues other than having to deal with tirekickers who aren't really serious about buying. I've sold some like that and the people who bought them still have them and everyone is happy and fine. We now just use word of mouth within our show circle to sell our horses, so we typically know the people, or at the very least the trainer who will be keeping the horse. It's not uncommon for us to see horses that we showed or that friends showed ten years ago pop up at horse shows now. Our breeders would not take a horse back if there are issues. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that. The closest we would get to that would be someone selling a horse with first right of refusal if it's going to be sold later, but that's also more of the exception than the rule.

I should say that I'm in this more competitively than just your average horse owner. Plenty of people get horses and keep them for life. I kept my first pony I got when I was 9 until he died at 31 years old. We owned another mare until she died at 34. My mom has only sold two of her horses in the last 20 years. I have one show horse who was permanently injured several years ago, but still has fine quality of life. He lives on our farm and I'll basically just feed him until he passes away.

Don't do it!! Ha I messed up a few weeks ago. If you pay with points through Chase Pay it's even worse and they're only worth 0.8cpp :(

I hit up BJs again tonight for some fee-free VGCs and I am pretty sure they haven't replenished them since I started to hit them up. I also got stopped at the exit door because self check out has yellow receipt paper and the lady was surprised that it would allow that much without an override. So she called the LP manager over...took a look at the receipt and sent me on my way. I had to show my receipt on this one as I had purchased a double box of Cheerios as well.
What card are you using at BJS to maximize the fee free VGC's?

Any ideas of good places to use Chase Pay for the bonus (after using Chase Pay 5 x for > $25)? I've been locked out of DH's online account twice from trying to use it at Walmart on DH's card and it's getting old! I remember WM was sensitive but this seems crazy! I bought a $25 gc two days ago, then tried again this morning and it locked me out (again)! I only need two more transactions to get the 3k UR points. Thanks!

Starbucks in-app reload works too!

I will add myself to your group! I don't mind the smell, but I won't drink it. My dh started drinking in 3 years ago, as did my dd when she left for college. So I get Starbucks for her LOL, and we have not one, but TWO, coffee makers on the kitchen counter!
I have a Keurig on my counter but it is basically a hot water heater. DH does drink coffee and I can't stand the smell of it on his breathe.

Thanks! But, I'm probably the one person in America that doesn't drink Starbucks! I don't care for coffee at all. I feel so left out sometimes because I don't. :rotfl:
Not alone :) Coffee makes me ill and not fond of tea, so my only hot option is hot chocolate and I'm not paying those prices for that. Hubby does do coffee but Starbucks is a rung above gas station coffee in his book, drinks it when necessary but has to add all the frou frou stuff to make it palatable (and not wreck his stomach). Sucks being a Starbucks hostage on the PA turnpike. But it's the only way we get rid of Starbucks GCs that we get as gifts

Proud hot tea drinker/coffee detester here :) Never tried it and hate the smell of it.

Youngest cannot drink coffee (even decaf--something really upsets her body) but she is now an almost-daily Starbucks visitor because of their teas :)
