I love credit cards so much!

We gave the first set of Uber credits to DD -- it's useful for college kids. ;) And she has spent many hours in that PHL lounge - I hope you get some use out of it. They are really nice there, too. I need to check out that sunscreen since the Saks credit is about to reset.

We use Eagle Creek. I bought them years ago (maybe 8 or 9) and they have held up and look like new. DH uses a folder for his button down shirts and they come out looking great. We went with the size that fits into our tiny little carryons since we hate checking baggage. I played a Tetris-like game with our luggage and ordered pieces (folders and cubes) that would fit together nicely.

How did you give the Uber credits to your DD? She's an AU on that card, right?

Thanks for the Eagle Creek recommendation! I saw them in person at the Container Store (love that place but hooo boy, $$!) Dd and I played packing cube Tetris with her ebags carryon backpack when we were choosing her things :) She thought I was a dork until she actually used the packing cubes

I've tried to follow and learn about the SW CP, but I must admit I'm totally lost. If it's something we want down the road (rarely ever fly them right now) at least I know where to come with my questions. :goodvibes In other news, DD's Macbook Pro was ordered today with an extra discount on top of the normal employee one DH gets from work, and that put quite a dent into the Biz Plat's MSR which is a nice extra that we hadn't planned on. Nice to have a bonus from a large spend that we weren't really planning on making I guess.

Just dashing in to post this, back later for reading.

Great place for those who love to cook, Penzey’s spices, has a few stores nationwide but a great website. Their spices and seasoning blends are top notch. They are having a gift card deal $35 for a $50 GC today and tomorrow. If you like to cook or need a gift, I love this place. (Plus if you send up for emails or catalogs they regularly send you coupons for free stuff)

Thanks for this! I keep hearing about Penzey's and have been wanting to try some but keep getting overwhelmed by the choices (and the cost). This will help. :)

Yes, she is an AU on the card. So she set up her Uber with DH's credits going to her Uber account. Ironically, I now have my own Plat thanks to this thread, and DH is now using my Uber credits on his account. It's a big mess now that he doesn't want to untangle at the moment.

I really like the Eagle Creek folders and cubes. We have quite a collection, pretty much all bought on sale (REI, Container Store, luggage store).

Are any card match capital one offers ones to jump on? I had several come up as prequalified. I need a card for upcoming tuition and have been too busy to look. I'm under 5/24 but I need to avoid chase since I just did the SW cards back to back. I'm not sure I really need to stay under 5/24 anymore. There are a few more cards I want from them, but nothing pressing. We've been without a min spend since mid October and it has been a nice break but I should get back into it.

ETA: Venture 50k/$3k, Savor $500/$3k, some other random cap one cards too are all prequal. Was also thinking about that Barclays card that was 70k...still active I wonder? I also haven't gotten an amex since June, so I guess that is an option tho their MSRs are annoying.

My dd gets the uber credits too. I just had her link DH's plat to her uber app but have her choose her card for actual payment.

FYI: the SW CP is very simple. It only sounds complicated right now due to all the people trying to earn it as early in the year as possible and the potential issues there.

If you want a simple SW CP plan:
  • Apply for SW Biz 60k Offer in December. Meet the MSR in January
  • Apply for SW Personal (hopefully 50k) Offer in January. Meet the MSR as soon as you can.
  • You’ll have a CP by March or April and have it for 20+ months

I struggle to identify with a normal human when it comes to money. As churners and deal-searchers :teacher:...we spend so far in advance it's like I live in the future. :teleport:

When we travel people are always like, "oh yeah gonna be paying that off for awhile, huh?" and I'm like...no we paid for this trip with points, gift cards, etc. like 6+ months ago. :duck: People talk about "paying the bills"...and I'm lost. o_O We pay most of our Utilities 12 months at a time while on a large MSR. I often pay our cable bill with VGCs acquired months prior and sometimes I'll just pay it ahead by 4-6 months to hit an MSR too. We try to acquire Walmart gift cards on Raise for all expenses there so we typically have 3-6 months of that sitting on hand.

I have realized I'm so out of touch that I just mimic and mirror people when I get in one of these conversations. A lot of head nods and agreement. ::yes:: If I even try to start explaining to them what I do they either a) think I'm crazy, b) think I'm super rich, or c) BOTH.

:rolleyes1:ssst:shhh...perhaps I am crazy AND super rich...:scratchin
Well, you may be richer than some people who pay bills monthly. Also you are lucky you can prepay utilities, none of mine accept prepayment. Electric bill doesn’t even take credit cards except as ‘emergency payment ‘ with a fee. So I still pay some bills monthly, no choice.

Ugh, I am so confused with these Amazon offers. I had the MR offer for 20% off that I activated but I don’t see it on my account anymore. But even if it were there, I can’t for the life of me figure out how to use the 1 MR and Pay the remainder with my GC balance. And then I had The UR offer for $15 off and again couldn’t figure out how to use the 1 UR and pay the rest with my GC balance. I just went on and applied the $15 off and I guess the rest will be on my CSR. Of course, I was sleeping so I was frustrated with DH for waking me up to purchase stuff for his eBay biz.

No prepayment allowed?? Gah! I do pay the fee to pay our utilities with card which is also why I try to always pay for 6-12 months at a time while working on an MSR.

Thank you for this. I copied it and saved it, in case it's something I'll need in the future. Right now we can't get to DD and she can't get home on SW without a stopover, so we have been booking AA. But who knows where she will land after this year...

What happens if the personal is only 40K? Can I make up the difference somehow?

“Biggest [screw] up of the year goes to whoever made the American Express Amazon 20% off promotion work twice within a day. Very rare not to see Citi take this category out with their general level of IT incompetence.”

I wonder which screwup cost more money? The 1 MR point for 20% off on Amazon that worked twice and the first time on Amazon GCs, or pay with Hilton Honors worth 0.5 ccp?

If you did a SW biz 60k in Jan (plus 3k base spend) then a SW personal 40k in Feb (plus 2k base spend) you’d have 105k points. To earn the last 5k you’d just need to spend $5,000 more.

Shhhhh insider secret (this will sound slightly complex) - you could earn that 5k by spending $2,500 on SW refundable flights on your SW BIZ card (2pts per $ on SW spend) then cancel the flights AFTER the statement closes and points transfer. Statement credit will offset the $2,500 so you never actually pay cash for the flight. Your card will show -5,000 pts until you either spend $5k OR you could just wait for your 6k anniv pts post. I can neither confirm nor deny if I’ve done this in the past ;)

Did you tell them it’s almost 2019? That’s like how Dh just bought some things from advanced auto parts and they don’t take gift cards on their website? I asked him the same thing: if they knew it was almost 2019

I'd probably pay the fee. I would never trust the card issuer to be reasonable when reporting anything late (even in this situation). It should be very easy to either get the $69 refunded later OR move that credit balance to another card still open.

Agreed! Thanks for response. Hopefully my premier and biz goes smoother in re to actually getting the anniversary points then cancelling. They're both coming due in the next month or two.

@SouthFayetteFan The Hyatt links should work, or will when they get updated. I got an email this afternoon telling me to invite my friends. I just haven't had a chance to see if the link is the same or if it needs to be updated.

The Container Store is like candy to me, I see all those pretty organized things and I WANT.

I found that Amazon sells TCS gift cards, and I can apply 1 MR to get 20% off the gift card. I tried to then buy with an Amazon gc but something has changed this week that doesn't allow me to do that anymore, so I put the purchase on my BBP that I'm meeting MSR on.

Anyhow, I went through Ebates (15% off with in-store pickup, plus 8% cash back) and used my TCS gift card, and got a pretty good discount on my purchase!

Finally getting around to setting up the Uber app with payment info. I see where it says Amex Benefit, but I can’t find anything about Uber Cash. Should that show up under the card info?

NM, it has miraculously appeared. Yay!
