ok ya'll I was asked for some advice by a friend.... young person with a somewhat decent credit score of 705- works with her moms business for a few years and the mom has a couple of cards with her name on them from a few years back(I didn't ask) she's about 20-21 yo,and looking for a card that will help her travel more. She's interested in international travel, first goal is south america. what's my best advice I can give her,I'm not that big on int. travel points for airfare. British Airways,AA, what would be a good start card for her? she currently uses a tj maxx cc only that's about 1.5 years old(I know,I know) thanks for any tips.
...............Anyone? Anyone at all?:rotfl2::confused3:surfweb: best card for a newb looking for int. flights? should I rec. a CSP?

I know but I just can’t imagine. They won’t remember anything. As much as I love Disney though I’m sure we will still take them. We talked about waiting until our kids are at least 6. Might have to leave them with grandma and grandpa while they’re little lol

My favorite age to take my kids was 4. I made sure they each went at 4, but that meant I also had younger too. The youngest I took was 17 months. They are just so fun and easy at that age. My 17 month old was terrified of every character but Jasmine. My son was almost 3 his first trip and he loved every character. Gave them all hugs. It’s just so cute. As they get older it’s actually harder. They have opinions. And their opinion usually is I’m tired of lines, let’s spend the day at the pool. I would say under 6 is the best time to take them!

I think it would depend on the specific international locations. I am hoping to travel to Europe sometime in the next two years - I researched my possible airport destinations in Europe and found the the United Airline was probably the best for me so I am focused on that card right now for me and for DH. I am also trying not to use my CSP or my DH's CSP UR points right now since they can be transferred to United.

I would have your friend research various International airlines to see which he/she might be using the most...

That being said, I have not traveled internationally in the past 10 years....

@calypso726 may be able to help. She offered me good advice when I first started thinking about my trip.

Just take frontier. They really aren’t that bad. You get what you pay for but I’m not arguing about a $39 plane ticket each way. They actually are good times in december too. When we flew in July our plane times were horrible: landed in Orlando at 11 pm and flew out at 7 am to go home.
We haven't flown Frontier that much, but have had good experiences.

I think CSP is a solid card. Flexible redemptions and travel partners for $95 AF.
Otherwise you need to know what airlines fly out of her local airport.

We’ve had our auto with them for years :) I don’t know why we waited so long to move the honeowner’s. But you are correct.
Have you had any problems with them for claims? Have not looked at Geico because every time I have a claim with someone who has Geico, it’s a hassle.

When I received the CFU and the CIC in the last month, I did the "replace damaged card" so my wife could have a card to use and it worked no problem.
She received the CF a couple of weeks ago and every time I try to do the same thing online, it states"we aren't able to reissue this card right now."
Any idea why?

Fair warning - this is what DH and I said BTK (shorthand in our house for "before the kids"). Now we have a 2 year old girl who loves Disney songs and a 4 year old girl who loves Disney princesses and has been asking for months to go to Disney World "where all the princesses live." So we're going in May and bringing Grandma and Grandpa along. I can't wait to see them experience it for the first time!

In the 25 years I had them for auto, I’ve never had to file a claim so I have no idea about the claims process. We never filed a claim with State Farm for homeowner’s either that was why I was looking to change the insurance since it had increased over 10% from last year. I actually have more coverage now for less than I paid last year.

Took 8 different phone calls to find a property that sells the Marriott gift card but I finally found one - Marriott Downtown Providence. I had to fill out 2 forms for authorization...he insisted that I fill out the Easter 2018 brunch reservation form. Called him out on it and told me to just cross that part off. It was the only part on the form other than my personal info! What was the purpose? Oh well.

All I had to do was hand over my credit card. I signed the credit card slip. Nothing else.

He was reading instructions from his computer screen too. I don't think I signed anything. He also never filled in any of the gift card info on one of the slips that it was "required" on. I don't want that number just hanging out on a slip of paper. I checked the balance in the car before I left to verify. He did give me a folio but it took him 5 minutes to figure out why it wouldn't print.

We have MetLife only because no one else would insure us. Lol. We had a claim with our previous house and apparently are “high risk” for five years afterwards. Our 5 years are now up, so I could look elsewhere but I’ve had to deal with Geico when another car hit us and they took months to resolve the claim. We left State Farm when rates in the Midwest took huge jumps after there was lots of flooding one year.

Watch see how many Marriott points you get for your purchase. I'll be interested to see if the way it is processed makes a difference.

Could be because it’s a newly issued card. Amex does a similar thing where their website can’t process a request for a replacement card of a newly issued card for, I’ve been told, at least 10 days after delivery of the original card. (You can call or chat with Amex, but pretty much the only way they’ll send another card to you during this time period is if you say you never received the card, then they’ll deactivate the original card and issue you a new card, which is not what you want.) I don’t know what kind of timeframe Chase has, but just try again later.

We have MetLife too. I was going to switch last year, but then my car got totaled in an incident with a guy jumping a red light - I was so impressed with how Metlife handled the claims process that I decided to stick with them and move my homeowners to them.

Oh so you only need to get to Vancouver for a cruise? When you said Alaska I thought you meant actually flying there. What month will you be flying? Because we sometimes get mudslides that cover the tracks and I'm not sure if that just affects our commuter train or if it also affects Amtrak. Though with the cruises May-Oct you should be fine because it should dry up by then.

The train would be easy because you can take the lightrail to where/nearby the Amtrak station. I know a fellow Washingtonian did that not long ago when she flew to Alaska, but I can't remember who. I haven't gotten off at that stop but did see the Amtrak symbol on the map.

I've never taken the train but have thought about it if I ever decide to do one of the 2 day cruises between Seattle and Van since they are one way. I kind of think it would be fun but not really. The whole idea of a cruise, unless it's just used as a moving hotel, isn't that interesting to me. I think an Italy or Med cruise where there's a new port every day and no sea days would be the only way I could do it.

The other option, but probably more convoluted is to get to Toronto and use WestJet, which I think is still a low cost carrier. I flew it 18 years ago (wow didn't realize it had been that long) when we went to Calgary. We drove to Abbotsford which used to have free parking and has 4-6 gates I think. It was cheaper than flying from Seattle and was about a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Mostly. It's a northbound cruise so I still have to fly back from somewhere in Alaska. We're staying a couple days in Alaska post cruise but not sure where yet since it's a Sep end of season cruise. I'd like to end in Fairbanks but I'll have to do more research on travel conditions in Sep, so for now looking at return from Anchorage. And we figured since we're on the west coast we might as well do a night or two in California. Hubby has never been further than Vegas, and I've only been for one night business trips so didn't get to see much, so we picked Sonoma/San Francisco area this time. (Originally I was going to throw a couple days at DL in there somewhere but it's just not working out. But if I can figure out this airline points thing might not be as long as we thought to get back and do a southern California/DL Trip :))

I used to think about cruises like you, but have found that a sea day can be a nice break in an intense itinerary. Since we go to explore places we have pretty active days while in new ports. So a sea day thrown in saves that feeling of needing a vacation from our vacation :) I also found if there is enough to do on the ship, and this will change ship to ship, even sea days can be busy if you want them to be. Or you can grab a lounger on deck and veg. I think that's why we like a cruise, gives options while being a floating hotel.
