Warning- daily safety and security room check

So do the majority of people going to WDW stop and check the DISboards? And I, personally, know I don't usually read the fine print on the door hanger. When a hotel has a major change in policy implementation, it would be a courtesy to the guest to let them know.

I don't think asking a guest to read something is asking too much of them. The list of things people could say Disney ought to tell them would keep us all at the front desk for hours. And that is assuming you even go to the front desk.

This was a major implementation of policy change. There were multiple reports that there really was no way guests could have known about this change if they weren't up on articles or discussion boards because Disney wasn't up front about it. Also, as a previous poster mentioned, the hang tags aren't always on the door, and there have been other reports of people asking for a hang tag and having difficulty getting one. I don't believe it was too much to ask for Disney to have something in the welcome packets or something to let people know of the change.

If they become too predictable, they're more convenient for the guest, sure, but much less useful as a security measure. They're not convenient, they're not supposed to be convenient, they're never going to be convenient. That's kind of the point.

But it's also exactly what's going to lose them business. Disney promotes the idea that staying on site is so convenient for young families because you can go back to your room in the middle of the day for a nap. But if that plan no longer works...

We stayed at the Polynesian from July 19-26. We had daily mousekeeping every morning while we were touring the parks. We would return at lunchtime to a clean room. We would spend the remainder of the day in and out of our room while we enjoyed our resort. We were not disturbed once during our entire stay.

Us seniors go back mid day to rest too, even though we aren’t usually pictured in the ads. Not as photogenic.:D

My issues were this:
When I checked in- this was not mentioned. They did ask if I wanted to skip house keeping for a gift card.
When I called to ask them not to come until after 12- they showed up at 8:34am two days later.
When I called after the first incident to question the policy- I was told to read my door hanger (which was not there and the first inspector decided to leave for me). They told me to read the fine print on the door hanger. Who goes into a hotel room, looks for a door hanger which they think they don’t need because they opted out of room service, and then proceeds to read the print at the bottom of the door hanger (if it is actually there). For days, my daughter had her thongs on top of the open shelf in closet area. Don’t think anyone needs to be possibly scoping out my daughters underwear. Some people are odd and you just don’t know who is coming in your room. With the addition of everyone’s phones having cameras- I don’t know- feels creepy.

Oh- and the reason I posted this is - I was on vacation, not really hanging out reading posts or sticky’s and wanted give everyone a heads up. Nothing malicious.

Just about every thread on this subject is blown out of proportion. I remember one that started with a multi-page letter that was being sent to Disney that included this posters "4th amendment being violated" which only demonstrated how little the guy knew about how the constitution works.

A thread somewhere, I can't remember if it was here or not, inquired about portable security systems so it goes off if security enters the room when they aren't there.

Other posters talking about not wanting "strange men" in their room which just shows a level of paranoia that is over the line between hinged and unhinged in my opinion.
Do you seriously not think that people who have been victims of rape or molestation go to Disney? Just because you have no problem with a random male entering your room, it doesn’t mean others don’t.

I totally understand your concern. I was particularly concerned for my DD (20) and her friend who were staying in their own room.

I was very worried about this for months before going. I found out that human trafficking is the main concern which is apparently a huge problem in Orlando. I think this is a good enough reason for the security checks, which will take place during mousekeeping as long as you accept it.

Once we arrived, I forgot about the room checks because we had had an accident on our way to Florida, lost a lot of our belongings, and were very shaken up. I remembered to check for bed bugs...all clear...but otherwise, we just got on with our vacation, thankful to be alive. As I said earlier, we had daily mousekeeping in the morning while we were out. Thank God, we were left alone.

Bungalows seriously detracted from view. Elevators were slow, dingy, dated. Hallways somehow seemed institutional.

Wow! How scary about the accident en route. I am so glad you weren’t seriously injured and that all went well with your vacation.

By the grace of God, all that we lost was material things, money, medications, etc. We were so thankful to be safe and unharmed. It actually brought us closer. We put it behind us and made the most of our vacation.

I can relate. The entire wheel came off my dad’s Lincoln in 1976. We were driving in the left lane, about to go on to a long bridge outside New Orleans. A state policeman rescued us and brought us to gas station a few miles a way where we stayed until it was sorted out. Lucky to be alive to tell the story. We still talk about that day.

I think they could figure out a way to make them less intrusive to guests while still being random.
They could require everyone be out of the room between the hours of X:00 and Y:00.
Well unless like for me the way they are implementing these checks is enough to make me not go there at all. If enough people feel that way that it starts hurting their bottom line then yes things are going to change.
Given WDW marketing, I genuinely think that even if every single DIS member stopped going, it would not affect Disney revenue.

No idea, but I would expect the majority of trip planners use some unofficial source, guide, forum, etc. Not all, of course. I'd be surprised if Room Check information weren't provided by at least the best sites.

Yes, I understand not every room has the door hanger - but the/any company prints and provides the information, and really can't be responsible whether people opt to read it.
Uh ... you are aware that there is a manually-operated tool that can pop that latch from the outside in about 5 seconds, if it's engaged? The CM only has to knock, encounter that latch when they try to open the door, then they just have to use that tool and they will be able to open the door. ;) There is no such thing as "locking them out until you answer".
With th numerous threads on this board alone, I'd be stunned if anyone weren't aware of this readily available tool. However, there has been not. one. single. report. of any CM using this tool on any guest room, ever.
and no one wants to be miserable at the happiest place on earth lol.
Just general information: DisneyLand = Happiest Place on Earth. Walt Disney World = Most Magical Place on Earth.
Just wanted to say, I am currently at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta by SunTrust Park to attend the Red Sox Braves game, go Sox.
Now you've done it! ;)

Genuinely don't think anyone is scoping out any guest underwear. If they were, though, underwear on a shelf is - underwear on a shelf.

Request a woman CM. Step out of the room. Stay somewhere that doesn't do random room checks (but not an Omni property because, well, they do.)

Yes. Of course. That’s the answer. I’ll just stay here in Canada where we are *free* of unwanted intrusions into the spaces we have paid to occupy.

My husband has stayed at Hilton properties 62 nights so far this year and has never had a room check.

And people have stayed at Disney and reported not having being checked...or not noticing anyway...yet they are clearly happening

Exactly.

Our housekeeper walked in, eyes down, dragging a half full trash bag. He never looked up. He never spoke to us.

I could have had the Hope Diamond, Michelangelo's David and Van Gogh's Starry Night sitting on the bed with all of the weapons of the Big Red One. He wouldn't have noticed.

I think this is one of the bigger issues that fuel people's perception of these checks. The belief that what they are doing isn't accomplishing the expected goal.

The checks they are doing at the front line are the very first in a long line of security. Security at Disney is likely one of the best and most advanced behind the military! (Ok i'm exaggerating here but I'm sure its top notch).

We don't know what they are looking for and no the HK is not there to stop the beginning of WW3. They are nothing more than eyes in the room. There are so many other levels at work. We have no idea if what their end game is working with the way it is implemented.

We were lucky enough to not have been bothered by security checks when we stayed at Aulani earlier in the year during our 14 night stay.

I’m not sure I follow you.
Odds are, due to his extensive time in the hotels each year, if they were happening he’d have experience it at least once. However, let’s say he has just beaten the odds...
Then as much time as I waste reading travel forums, I’d likely have read about it happening...but I haven’t.:coffee:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

What is really sad is that people believe that Disney will actually keep them safe.

fair enough. Just saying that your husband's experience doesn't discount the previous posters comments about them occurring at other chains. Thankfully he has been lucky enough to not be bothered by them
