Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

Saw on Disney Food Blog today that they switched the beignets to Mickey shaped ones like they have in DL. They are apparently more cake doughnut like and not hollow anymore. I wasn't the biggest fan of them in the first place (gasp...I know) so I'm hoping these are an improvement. The prices also went up and you can only get 3 with a snack credit now instead of 6. If anyone goes and gets them soon, you should let us know how they are. Inquiring minds would like to know. :)

Disney really wants me to keep eating these beignets, don't they? I really didn't like the previous ones, so fellow beignet-doubters, let me know how these are!

According to DFB it changed yesterday. She showed a picture of them and a picture of the menu with the updated prices. The online menu doesn't reflect it yet though.

I looked it up. I knew it had to be pretty recent!! We liked the old ones (although we probably liked the king cake more), but I’d try them. Ours weren’t all that light and fluffy, and definitely not open in the middle, so I’m not sure if the formula may have already changed before we went, just not the shape.

Now, when I get home, if I really miss the music, I can just buy the CDs. :) ( I collect Christmas CDs so what's a couple more?!)

I love Christmas music CDs! I will have to add this to my shopping list for my December trip.

I'm a little disappointed that I will never get to meet him. At least I got to meet Richard from the GF before he passed away earlier this year. People who stay off-site just do not understand the little things (and the people) that make a stay in a Disney resort special.

That's what I thought too. I'm still going to try them though. My boys have never had them and it'll be fun just to watch them eat them. I wasn't really a big fan of the previous ones. I don't know if I'm just spoiled from having the real thing in New Orleans. I found the previous ones to be too chewy, but maybe I got a bad batch because I only had them the once.

I agree all to all of this.

This was my one disappointment when we stayed at POR last year. My daughter and I hated the beignets but we thought the same as Ashley we either got a bad batch (ours were also chewy and not hollow at all) or we were spoiled by the real stuff from New Orleans. I'm excited to try the Mickey shaped one hopefully it's better than the ones we've tried previously.

More Info on the Mickey shaped beignets, there is also a beignet sundae:

That review says they're are the same except for the shape. It'll be interesting to see how they turn out. The ice cream sundae looks really good and considering it is a snack credit as well as just 3 beignets alone, it makes for a difficult choice. Do you get the one with the ice cream that is a better value and likely tastes better or do you pick the plain ones with mountains of powdered sugar for a more authentic experience as well as better pictures?!

Let me ask again, in case someone knows-lobby smell? I want my house to smell like the lobby!! I have googled with little luck.
I wish I could answer this question, but I haven't been there in 26 years! There is a thread on the DIS about smells at WDW- I think it's called you're going to think I'm nuts- or something like that. Maybe someone there has posted about it. I love trying to recreate Disney smells and will pay careful attention when we go. :)

My family is booking two rooms for French Quarter this fall. we really want connecting rooms (I know this can only be a request), and are planning to book pool view. Are our chances less likely for connecting if we book pool view rooms, as there are less of them? Are we better off booking standard? Thanks for any advice!

Being a dvc family we have never done any of the hotels. With my dad being ill and him wanting to try and take his great grandsons he has been using all the points. So we booked our first hotel stay for French quarter for 11. Ights in sept 2019 it’s just the 2 of us and is our Disney moon 2 years late. We booked a king size and are going to request a water view first floor so we can sit outside by our room

Just returned today. Mickey beignets are delicious! So much better than the originals! Arrived to FQ on Friday and ate the "old style" beignets. They were ok, but not great. We also stayed there in March and thought the same. Last night we had the new Mickey ones and they are fabulous! Soft and airy, not hollow, but not anything like an old fashioned style cake donut, which is dense and more solid. They just melt in your mouth, and before you know it, you've wolfed down 2 and have to share the rest with everyone else. Darn! The new beignets are a big improvement IMO, and doesn't everything taste better Mickey shaped? ;)

Our second stay at FQ has just cemented the fact that this is hands down my favorite resort. We have stayed deluxes, moderates and values, and FQ is still our favorite.

*disclaimer:I am not a food critic, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night, I just know what tastes good. If the recipe is indeed the same as before, something about them does taste different. In a great way.

Hi guys! Just booked a super last minute trip and staying at POFQ for the first time!! I had a few questions for you all!
1. Whats up with corner rooms? Why are they popular?
2. I booked Standard View (cheapest) but was wondering if I should modify to garden/river view if it would increase my chance of getting a corner room? (we do not care at all about view)
3. What entertainment is in the Skat lounge? WHat nights?
4. Do they show movies outside at POFQ?
5. How do you "opt out" of mousekeeping- is this something I have to specifically ask for upon check in?
6. Are there monitors at the bus stop to show when the next bus is arriving for the parks?
7. How long would you say the walk is to POR from the main lobby of POFQ to POR? Is there an easier way to get to POR than walking? (thinking about going over one day to look around)

Thank you so much to anyone who can answer! We always stay deluxe and have never stayed mod. THis was the one we decided on and we cant wait to see why this place is so loved!!!

1. They have 2 windows which lets in more light and makes the room feel larger.
2. I don't think so.
3. From the awesome portorleans.org site

Scat Cat’s does not currently have its own permanent resident musicians, however various temporary acts (and even a DJ) have been keeping the guests entertained in the meantime. For example a singer named Andy Burr had a semi-regular slot for a few months.

Currently you are most likely to find Jason Thomas and Billy Varnes, two members of the fabulous Off Kilter rock band which used to perform in Epcot’s Canada pavilion, sometimes joined by Mulch, Sweat & Shears’ Greg Hayworth. Their dates are only announced a month or so in advance (generally most Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, 8:30pm—11pm) but if you happen to be around when they are playing do yourself a favour and pop along, they are highly recommended. See the Recreation Schedules page for this month’s dates.

4. Yup.
5. Yes, you have to go to the Front Desk on check in day and ask to opt out. This has to be done on check in day.
6. Yup.
7. If memory serves, about 10 minutes.

Are they offering compensation for opting out of mousekeeping? I remember in the past they were giving a gift card for each day you skip.

Yes. $10 per night minus one. So for a 7 night stay you would get a $60 gift card.

Hope you have a fantastic time! I recommend browsing https://www.portorleans.org/ for so much cool info.

To address your question about POR further, there is also a bus you can hop, or go on a complete "boat tour" and from the wonderful portorleans.org site, "You can also use the ferry boats to travel between French Quarter and Riverside before 5pm, however you will need to disembark at Riverside and queue up again for the return journey. If a boat seems full when you are waiting to board at Riverside, let the boat captain know if you are only intending to travel as far as French Quarter as they always hold back some empty seats to allow passengers to embark at French Quarter. After 5pm, please use the complimentary bus service instead."

If you opt out of mousekeeping, other than the obligatory knock and check the room, is there anything provided? (I remember seeing something about trash). Can you just ask for fresh towels as you need them? I hadn't given this much thought, but $110 US is sitting at $144C at the moment. (12 night trip)

I thought some of you who know the resort really well might enjoy these pictures from our stay there in July 1992. I think the resort was pretty new then. I plan on taking pictures of my DD in the same locations when we go there in November, if she'll let me! (we have some traditional photos that we've taken over the years of her in the same locations, a Disney height chart!) The room was pretty non-themed then!
ETA: Not only did she agree to the pictures, but she's going to look for a similar hat and a Belle shirt! Sometimes I think she's even more Disney than I am. :)
