I love credit cards so much!

You know that makes sense...I don't know why in my head I always tied paying my balance with getting the points...it's hitting the spend amount that gets the points...it's just that I never considered an alternative when hitting spends and paying it off.
You are not alone!

On the issue of the Reddit group I would just suggest that those who have reached their limit of referrals that they remove their link. If you no longer have the card remove the link. And for what its worth...my thought is that people who do use someone to just PM them rather than post on the thread. The referral use is just between them and we are such a nice group that we don’t want to make people feel bad. I also hate for it to feel like a contest between new people and a response/recommendation. Just my thoughts and I am so grateful for @SouthFayetteFan and @Albort for putting it together and for everyone else’s work on it.
Thanks for mentioning all of this as I 100% agree :) I will echo your comment with some thoughts:
  • Keep track and if you hit the max “support” remove your link
  • If you cancel the card remove your link
  • Reddit threads lock after 6 months so we will have to refresh the “support” threads soon which will require everybody to re-post. (You can simply copy and paste)
  • Let’s continue to use the word “support” to avoid the R word
Thanks all!!

So my thoughts on the survey are: (I didn't want to share my thoughts in the data post...so that everybody can formulate their own opinions)

#1) no surprise that Southwest is #1. The Companion Pass is how a lot of people find their way into the game - I bet "How to save money on Southwest flights" is a common google search.

#2) no surprise that SPG/Marriott is #1. We are all kind of obsessed with SPG/Marriott around here. Marriott has been my go-to hotel chain for over a decade, the SPG merger made it even sweeter. I also bet the Swolphin plays a role in that for some people.

#3) URs are the top flex program - I think they earn that spot BUT we also have a number of newer people to the game and with the CIP/CSR/CSP early recommendations, OF COURSE URs are going to be come out on top for those people! Some people didn't even know enough about the other 3 options to vote, which is completely fine :)

#4) We get a TON of cards around here. I happen to know the guy who is in the 26-30 personal category and the 9 biz cards soooo I guess I win :p I won't be up there for long though with our RAPID slow down on card apps though haha.

#5) DISchurners is awesome, it's great that we are giving back to others. 15 people report receiving a click which is so awesome to me! I hope the success of our community continues to grow! ALSO I'll say again - if you haven't gotten a click PLEASE don't feel bad, continue to help others, answer questions and be involved. Obviously there's a bit of random chance to it all but I definitely don't want the last part of the survey to be a discouragement to anybody!!

I think it's interesting how many of us vote most highly that SW is our favorite program. I bet if you did this poll on reddit you would get a very different response. I think it goes back to us mostly having families who do much of our traveling to Florida. I bet few here are stockpiling points to get a super fancy cabin on an overseas flight to Malaysia. Lol. I'm perfectly happy with a free economy ticket for the 4 of us. Don't get me wrong, first class is on my bucket list. But if I can get to Florida twice in a year.... Well I'll always pick quantity over quality.

I also value Avios as my next runner up because living in Washington we can get to Hawaii for 25k miles.... A direct flight on Alaska, even better. It will be interesting to see what SW does to mix up the Hawaii game. Right now AS flights are the best for us miles and convenience wise. If SW flights are in the $600 range that could mean around 50k RR points which is steep. If the drop down to sound $400 or so we could be in business, especially with a CP in the mix.

Has anyone actually been by a Toys R Us to look at their actual products (not just for GoC cards) since they announced they were closing all stores? Thinking DH and I might go today to see if we can find anything good for his eBay business but don't want to waste a trip over there!

Also, about halfway through our CIP spend! Will be shooting for CSR/CSP double dip mid-April I'm thinking.
I am so jealous of you people with neat stores nearby. We have a Target, 3x Walmart :rolleyes2, and a Fred Meyer (Kroger) near us. Everything else--Costco, Best Buy, TRS, etc is a 40 minute to an hour drive. Boo!

We do have a Lowes so maybe I could do the Amex deal if it's on my new SPG card. I have it on my BCP but I have put the kabosh to ANY non essential spend until my SPG gets here (which is today, THANK YOU INFORMED DELIVERY!). I am not 100% sold on getting the one for DH. 14k MSR in 3 months sounds a little :scared:

In case some one would want to buy a gift card, Lowes had TRS gift cards yesterday when I was there and card cash sent an email offering them for up to 10% off.

I'd be curious if someone were to try and buy one today if there would be an error message at the POS, or the slip that prints just says "Declined."

You might have said before, but where in WA are you that those stores are so far away? Though I'm generally good as long as I have target and Fred's nearby

In Castle Rock (Longview/Kelso might be more familiar...I don't like to claim them though. There's a reason we have 3 Wal-Marts!). You know where you would turn off I5 to go east towards the Mt. St. Helens visitor centers? Thats pretty close to where I am at.

I guess if I consider heading North into Centralia/Chehalis I could include having a Kmart within 30 minutes .

Where would you get an idea like that??? hahao_O

Honestly....we don't!

What he said! Though we did meet outside once upon a toy (I think that's the name) at DTD years ago

Maybe I'll update my photo after my DLP trip in May. I wonder if they have a Mr. Potato Head...

Not a fan of Kelso, got a speeding ticket there once. Also wasn't a fan of their McDonald's but I don't remember why.

I can see how you're stuck going up to Olympia or down to Vancouver/Portland. I say Portland because if you're already going to van and have time might as well save some sales tax ☺ I heard on the news Mukilteo I think it was is raising theirs to 10.4 or something crazier than the 10 it already is here.

BMO and Amex is dead. Someone reported not getting the points for their SPG biz. Memory bank works. That only allows $500. BMO is still a good option for other cards. I really don’t want to pay a 2.5% fee for Plastiq so I may try buying visa giftcards to get money orders.

Hmmm, I think I resemble that remark :scratchin

Ah, you west coasters have some of the best options! Avios to Hawaii and Alaska Air flights galore! I saw Chase came out with an Iberia card not subject to 5/24 and is going to be issuing an Aer Lingus card. As an east coaster, I value Avios too because I use them to fly BA. Taxes are horrible but availability is usually decent for flights up front. Now Chase is releasing 2 Avios cards, likely not subject to 5/24. But I already have 10 Chase cards :badpc: I'm not willing to part with any of them at the moment. I haven't flown Aer Lingus or Iberia, so that's going on the bucket list soon. If I like either airline well enough to try and earn a CP on it I may cancel my BA card and go for one of those. We'll see.

UGH I was tossing and turning trying to sleep last night (I'm too old for a coffee at 3PM I guess) and couldn't quit thinking about cards--specifically the Iberia. We are 2 player and are at 1/24 and 2/24. My plan is to work on the 2x SPG Biz thru June, then start right into 2x Mariott , then late October work on SW ans SW Biz. I am wondering if I can shoehorn in those somewhere. We have at least 3k organic spend per month and another 1600 if I use Plastiq (not including mortgage--that seems to tricky to count on).The minimum spend for my plans not including the Air Lingus or Iberia is 25K. The numbers tell me I can make it work but it seems like a tall order on paper.

But...but...but...I want it

ETA: ALSO for the record I picked Malaysia at random. Definitely wasn't trying to shame anyone. You do you!:flower3:

Eew. I am not either. It's gross. Haha. Technically we have a Kelso address but its barely by a smidge. I claim Castle Rock all the way! And yeah we typically go the Vancouver/Portland route. When we fly we go out of PDX too. It is only about 30 minutes closer and sometimes a little more expensive than SEA but it is just so much nicer. Not to mention PDX has the sweet Priority Pass credit at a handful of restaurants. $27 per person in my party to stock up on food and drinks for my travel day? Yes please!!

Starbucks/ChasePay DP update: Used CP at a local SB that accepts CP (check by using the maps feature in the CP app before you go) on 3/14. Bought a NEW $10 GC using the CP app (cashier seem to already know what to do and just had me scan the CP all). 300 stars posted this morning (3/17). I bought a new GC to transfer the balance to my existing account with as oppose to simply reloading to avoid any issues since the terms stated “purchase”. I figured it’s one extra step to transfer the balance, nothing painful.

We are LOL/24 indefinitely. I am planning on meeting the MSR on my new WF Propel card in by funding a new BMO account with it and some organic spend thrown in the mix. Then, come May I'll see what new card I should go after and make the MSR for some of the hotel stays during our pre and post China ABD trip.

That's a nice plan and strategy you got going there! If you're going to go for the $25K on the Iberia one down the line, I'd suggest going for the whole $30k and get the companion pass while you're at it.

Oh I didn't take it as shaming at all. Gosh, that's the last thing I'd expect from anyone on this thread, and what I love most about our group here. We all do what makes us happy, everyone helps each other and no one judges anyone else's plans and goals. I know I've shared how excited we are about experiencing the Singapore Suites flight on our way to China this May. So the comment made me think of that, laugh and wonder if I should add Malaysia to the never ending bucket list of places I'd like to visit :upsidedow

Can somebody provide the number for Chase business recon? I applied for the CIP, but when I hit submit a window popped up and closed real quick and I couldn't read the message, and it just left me on the application page. I hit submit several times and the exact same thing happened each time. I think I should call instead of going through the application process again. Thanks for the help.

Yep, I'm totally all over that Air Lingus card... provided there's a good signup bonus and it isn't really 5/24. Dublin will (likely) be the next big trip after next summer's Barcelona adventure. I hope the card has a shamrock on it. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

First, call the automated status line at 1-800-432-3117, follow the prompts with #, 3, 1, SSN, to check if your application actually went through. If Chase has your application in its system, it'll show up in the automated status line.

The recon line is 1-888-270-2127. However, if there are no applications on file, then what is there to ask Chase to recon?
