Do Not Disturb Gone! (BLT)

I've read a lot of this thread, but correct me if i'm wrong - nobody is just going to walk in, right? I'm sure there's going to a knock on the door and if you aren't ready for someone to come in they'll come back later I would imagine? I mean, I see comments about people being walked in on when they aren't dressed and whatnot but if you've got the deadbolt on or door latch I don't think they'll be kicking down the door if you don't answer immediately and i'd be very surprised if they just walked in unannounced. Unless i'm not understanding the new policy?

I was upset at first and Im still not thrilled about it but I understand the reasons for it, its really sad but I guess thats the way the world is going now a days.. Thing I wonder about is lots of ppl are celebrating honeymoon, anniversaries... What if someone is "occupied" lol How embarrassing..

If they have the flip latch engaged, there’ll be no embarrassment.

Reading through this thread I cannot believe how many people do not mind having their belongings rummaged through. If they say and many of you say it is to prevent a LV incident than to be effective they need to search bags, suitcases and everything you own in the room to ensure safety. If not, then it is basically an inconvenience to all. It also opens up you and your family more theft and unnecessary disturbances. We sleep in and if they show up any time before 10 am most days we will be woken up. Other go to bed early. So now Disney is saying they do not give a da#n about how guests feelings or privacy. I do not know of any other hotel chain that does this. We are locked in to our room now as it is too late to change. But we also have decided between the dogs and policies like this we are done with Disney for quite some time after this year.

Exactly. We routinely use the flip safety latch in any hotel. Close the door, lock, flip, done.
Unless someone isn't in the room.

For example. We come back to the room, so I can nap. My husband doesn't need a nap, so he goes to the quick service for a refill and walks around the resort for a bit. He comes back. I either have to leave the door unlatched or he has to stay out the entire time.

Another example. We get up, he jumps in the shower, I head out to get refills. (There was actually a number of people up in arms about the handle-less mugs, because so many of them do this.) Now, I either wait outside the door until he is through or he leaves the door unlatched.

The close the door, lock, flip, only works if everyone is in the room.

I’ve read most of this thread, but maybe I missed the part where people have taken the position that they would be OK with people rummaging through their things.

Do you believe people are going to rummage through your belongings?

(Besides the TSA folks, of course)

I think the thing that bothers me the most is the disturbance...the fact that I even have to respond to the knock in the first place. I can think of lots of instances where I don't want to be disturbed, even by a simple knock on the door by a CM:

1. When I'm in the bathroom or shower
2. When I'm getting dressed
3. When I'm sleeping
4. When I'm sick in bed
5. When I'm being "intimate" with spouse
6. When I just want to be left alone for whatever reason I deem alone-worthy

I just don't like that there is now no way to alert hotel staff that "it's not a good time...come back later".

One more thing...

There are lots of times that we run out of the room for a quick moment:

1. To grab some food in the club lounge
2. To run down to the lobby to buy something
3. To take a quick walk or get some fresh air
4. To run down to the car to get something

In those instances, when we know we'll "be right back", we don't usually pick up our stuff or lock up our electronics. We just put out the DND sign because I don't want housekeeping coming in during those few minutes that we are gone.

Now there is no way to reasonably prevent housekeeping from coming in. In order to leave the room for a quick few minutes, we are going to have to pick up all our things and lock electronics away. I wouldn't even want to leave a shirt or anything on the bed for fear it may get tangled up and lost if housekeeping were to come in and start making beds or cleaning up.

We've completely lost our ability to communicate with staff that I don't want you entering the room at this particular moment.

Probably because Disney isn't rummaging through people's belongings.

Here's what Disney has said:

1) They want to have an employee check guest rooms once a day.

2) They've removed the do not disturb signs and replaced them with Occupied signs. Printed on those signs is a reminder that as the owner of the resort, Disney has the right to enter guests rooms when they deem it necessary (that's not a new policy).

Disney has NOT said:

1) That security guards will be conducting the checks.

2) That guests' luggage or belongings will be inspected during these checks.

3) That guests will be forced to open their door at the moment when someone knocks.

4) That these checks are intended to prevent a repeat of the Las Vegas massacre or a terrorist attack.

All of that is pure speculation on the part of people on this board.

And if you're declining housekeeping, but you're in and out of your room all day, you'll never know if these checks have been done.

Im pretty disappointed with all the pouting on this thread, as others have said if you dont like the new policy, stay elsewhere. Disney is doing the best they reasonably can to keep people safe, imagine the alternative: something like what happened in las Vegas happening at WDW.
See that’s where I have a problem. They’re not doing anything. They are doing minimally what their lawyers say will reduce some liability. If they did something valuable, I’d be ok with it. But, giving Disney a pass like they’re just some poor single parent trying to make it & doing “the best they can”. Nope they have the $ & resources to do something less disruptive to guests that could actually be worthwhile. But, instead they chose to burden their staff & guests to give the appearance of doing something which is actually nothing.

And to the don’t stay there if you don’t like it argument. It gets frustrating that WDW continues to add to that list for ppl who have gone for years & spent hundreds of thousands. It becomes a slap in the face that they clearly don’t care about customer service specifically about returning customers as much anymore (not just b/c of this but everything else that keeps piling up). They bank on the first time/once in a lifetime guest who doesn’t know any better or have anything to compare it to. But, If they keep it up, word will get out & they won’t be impressed & ppl will stop staying there.

From what I've read I take issue with your discription of number 3.
They have said that they will knock first. (obviously you can not be forced to open the door)... BUT they have stated that after they knock (in the course of a 24 hour period...and you have elected to forgo housekeeping in that time frame) THEY WILL THEN ENTER YOUR ROOM.

From what I have read not everyone carries the tool needed to open the door latch, if you have it in use. Not sure if they plan on changing that.

I'd like to know how it actually plays out. Will they force their way in the first time? Will they try and check a few times before "forcing" their way in?

Could you post a link for that?

"Beginning with the three monorail resorts near the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World Resort Hotels will no longer provide guests with “Do Not Disturb” signs to put on their doors. The signs will be replaced with “Room Occupied” signs that will notify cast members that guests are in the rooms. However, these guests will be “disturbed” at some point, as it will now be required that a Disney employee enter their hotel room at least once a day to ensure guest safety."

What is missing is if they will force the door open if a tag is hanging on the door, or if they may come back later.
